‘My Mum Abandoned Us When Life Became Hard For My Dad’ – Hermes

Reality TV star, Hermes Iyele has revealed how his family went through tough times after his father lost his job.

626Blaze reports that the former Big Brother Naija housemate said his mother left and stayed away for seven years.

In an interview with media personality Chude, the 28-year-old spoke about how his father, who once worked with the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF), became a commercial bus driver after facing financial problems.

The family had to move into an unfinished building during this period of hardship.

Hermes revealed that things became so difficult that his mother refused to join them in the new living condition.

She left one night and did not return until seven years later.

At the time, Hermes and his siblings were still very young and had to grow up without their mother.

He explained that even though the experience was painful, he has chosen not to hold any bitterness toward her.

According to him, their father filled the gap with care and did his best to raise the children.

He described his father as someone who loved deeply and tried to keep the family together despite the challenges.

Hermes also said his parents did not have a peaceful marriage, but he understands that his mother may have acted out of fear and survival.

He said: “My dad was working with UNICEF before he started driving a bus. We had to move into an uncompleted building, but my mum said she couldn’t move in with us.

“She left that night and didn’t come back until seven years later. We were pretty young when she left because things got hard, and she couldn’t cope.

“My father raised us with so much love. He was a lover. The thing about love is, it’s the reason I still have so much love for my mum regardless.

“My dad and my mum didn’t have a happy marriage. They had three children together. But I know that my mum did what she did from a place of survival. I can’t fault her for that.”

“We’re sorry” – WAEC apologizes, urges students to recheck 2025 results after alleged glitch

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC)has publicly apologized to candidates following a technical glitch that caused errors in some of the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results.

In a statement released on Wednesday, WAEC admitted that a system error led to some students receiving incomplete or incorrect results shortly after the results were published online.

The glitch reportedly lasted several hours before WAEC’s technical team identified and fixed it.

During that period, social media was flooded with complaints from students who reported missing subjects or results that didn’t reflect their expectations.

WAEC has since assured the public that the error did not affect the integrity of the exams. No results were lost, downgraded, or deliberately withheld due to the glitch.

Students are now encouraged to log back into the WAEC result portal and recheck their 2025 WASSCE results.

WAEC’s Full Statement:

REVIEW OF RESULTS OF THE WASSCE FOR SCHOOL CANDIDATES, 2025

“The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) sincerely regrets to inform the general public of technical issues discovered during the internal review of the recently released results of the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for School Candidates, (SC) 2025.

As part of our efforts to curb examination malpractice, the Council embarked on an innovation (paper serialization) already deployed by a national examination body. It is also worth noting that this is in line with best practices in assessment. The paper serialization was carried out in Mathematics, English Language, Biology and Economics. However, an internal post-result release procedure revealed some technical bugs in the results.

The Council, being a responsive body that is sensitive to fairness and professionalism, has decided to urgently review and correct the technical glitches that led to the situation. As a result, access to the WASSCE (SC) 2025 results has been temporarily denied on the result checker portal.

We extend our deep and sincere apologies to all affected candidates and the general public.

We appreciate their patience and understanding as we work diligently to resolve this matter with transparency and urgency within the next twenty-four (24) hours. On this note, candidates who have previously checked their results are advised to re-check after 24 hours from now.

WAEC remains committed to upholding excellence, fairness and transparency in all our assessment processes.

Thank you for always counting on our integrity and reposing confidence in us to render quality service to the Nigerian child.”

Goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie Just Got Nominated for the Ballon d’Or Yachine Trophy

Nigerian goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie has been named among the five nominees for the 2025 Women’s Yachine Trophy — an award presented by France Football to honour the best goalkeepers in the world as part of the annual Ballon d’Or ceremony.

At just 24, Nnadozie has become one of the most dependable goalkeepers in international football, with her rise marked by remarkable performances and a string of well-deserved accolades.

She won the CAF Women’s Goalkeeper of the Year award back-to-back in 2023 and 2024, a recognition of her consistent brilliance and commanding presence between the posts.

Her 2023/2024 season with Paris FC Féminines was nothing short of exceptional, earning her the title of Best Goalkeeper of the Season in the French Division 1 Féminine League. And she hasn’t slowed down since.

Just last month, at the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), Nnadozie delivered yet another outstanding performance for the Super Falcons, securing the Golden Glove and being named Best Goalkeeper of the Tournament.

Now based in England, her nomination for the Yachine Trophy places her in elite company — alongside Ann-Katrin Berger, Cata Coll, Hannah Hampton, and Daphne van Domselaar — all celebrated for their impact over the past year.

The 2025 Ballon d’Or ceremony will take place on 22 September, with nominees in other categories being revealed throughout the day.
