Drama As BBNaija Star, Leo Da Silva Debates Nigerian Police Over ‘One Chance’ Scams

Big Brother Naija star Leo Da Silva and the Nigeria Police have engaged in a public debate over ways to tackle the “one chance” menace and curb the activities of individuals linked to street-level scams and petty crimes in major Nigerian cities.

On Sunday, Leo Da Silva took to X to express frustration with current police deployment strategies, questioning the effectiveness of roadside checkpoints and suggesting that police efforts would be better focused on bus stops, where “one chance” operators are more active.

“Nothing pisses me off than ‘one chance’. It’s like mini kidnapping, mini banditry. Instead of police mounting useless checkpoints to greet us, why not go to bus stops and investigate these one-chance operators and grab all of them??”
he tweeted.

The reality TV star’s comments prompted a response from the Force Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, who emphasized that enforcement strategies must balance action with protecting citizens from harassment.

“I am sure you would come back to complain of police harassment, profiling and unnecessary delays at the bus stops. There are smarter ways.

“Let us start by making moves for 24/7 CCTV coverage of all bus stops. Just in case you’d ask, it isn’t for us to install, but it’ll help us a great deal,” Hundeyin posted, advocating for technological solutions to improve policing while reducing friction with commuters.

Leo Da Silva later clarified that his main concern was ensuring police manpower is prioritised toward directly tackling criminal activity rather than traditional checkpoints.

“I don’t know what your first sentence means, even if that doesn’t affect me, it’s a valid complaint. Instead of deploying unnecessary checkpoints, why not suggest to the force that one chance operators must be caught.”

“Use that manpower to sort that. Abuja and Lagos, especially,” he wrote, highlighting the specific challenges in Nigeria’s capital cities.

How Lagos Commissioner, Tokunbo Wahab Reacted After BBNaija Star, Tacha, Slammed Govt For Arresting Child Beggars

Lagos State Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, has defended the state government’s decision to arrest street beggars.

The drama began on Wednesday, January 7, when Wahab shared a video showing the moment a child beggar was arrested by men of the state’s environmental taskforce.

He posted the video with the caption: ‘’The raid on street beggars and urchins has continued along the Lekki–Ajah Expressway and in other parts of Lagos, as part of ongoing enforcement efforts to restore order, ensure public safety, and keep our roads and public spaces clear.”

The video moved some Nigerians as it showed the child weeping after he was apprehended.

Reality TV star, Tacha while reacting to the video, questioned the reasoning behind arresting child beggars. According to her, the question should be why are the kids in the streets in the first place. She argued that arresting beggars doesn’t fix anything but only adds fear to poverty. She stated that if the government is serious, it would be setting up proper vocational centres with boarding homes, teach them real skills, shoe making, designing, photography, videography etc

‘’The first question shouldn’t be why arrest these kids? It should be why are they on the streets in the first place?

These children are on the streets because the government failed them.. Along the Lekki–Epe Expressway alone, you’ll see hundreds of kids begging every single day.

Some get hit by cars. Some get injured. Some don’t make it home..

shouldn’t they be in school? Instead, they’re dodging traffic to survive government failure.

Arresting them doesn’t fix anything. It only adds FEAR to poverty. If we were serious, the Lagos State Government would be setting up proper vocational centres with boarding homes, teach them real skills, shoe making, designing, photography, videography.. i mean, give them options.

You don’t solve poverty with force. You don’t punish people for surviving.

If anyone deserves arrest, it’s the officials who looted public funds and left children with no choice but the streets!” she wrote

Responding to her comment, Wahab emphasised that it is not the duty of government to parent recalcitrant children.

He wrote: ‘’Dear Tacha, Thank you fo your concern.

Advocacy and enforcement cannot be approached with emotion or knee-jerk reactions. They must be guided by law, data, and long-term social responsibility.

No one disputes the reality of poverty or the dangers children face on our highways. The presence of minors on major expressways like Lekki–Epe is precisely why intervention is necessary, not why enforcement should be abandoned. Leaving children to dodge speeding vehicles in the name of compassion is not empathy; it is neglect.

To start with, Lagos State public schools are tuition free with free payment for their WAEC examination. Also, Lagos has existing free technical colleges, vocational centres, and skills-acquisition programmes across the state, many of which teach trades such as shoemaking, fashion, photography, ICT, and creative arts. Beyond government facilities, community leaders, NGOs, religious bodies, and even elected officials across the State routinely organise free training and empowerment programmes. These interventions may not be perfect, but it is inaccurate to suggest that nothing exists.

It may interest you to know that each time these kids are apprehended, they are profiled, some are returned to their parents who mostly are not living in Lagos, while others who are interested in learning skills are giving free admission through the Lagos State Ministry of Youth and Social Development. However, the role of the government is not to parent recalcitrant children.

Dear Tacha, beyond social media and like every other person who have partnered with the state, we would be willing to work with you and others alike to contribute to taken kids like this off the street. Kindly reach out to me or the Commissioner for Youth and Social Development @Mo_ogunlende

Thank you! ‘’

BBNaija Star, Boma Reveals He Spent Over ₦2 Million Before Entering The House (Video)

Boma Akpore has revealed what truly happened behind the scenes before entering the Big Brother Naija house and explained why he felt frustrated after the show.

Speaking in an interview “With Chude”, he explained that many people assumed he had it easy, but the amount he spent even before getting selected was already overwhelming.

According to him, while some people only paid for transport to auditions, he had to take a flight, pay for a hotel for a whole month, and buy brand-new clothes for a show he wasn’t even sure he would get into.

He said the hotel bill alone cost about ₦70,000 per day at the time, and by the time he entered the house, he had already spent over ₦2.1 million.

Boma added that after the show, the backlash made things worse because brands suddenly backed out of deals for things he said he didn’t even do.

He said some endorsements came close, but just before payment something would happen online and the deal would crash.

According to him, people would accuse him of things they never actually saw, and the same people complaining about how the country works were contributing to the problem.

Boma said the whole situation left him angry because he had spent his own money, taken big risks, and still ended up being judged over narratives he insists were never backed by evidence.

Her Family Got Involved And Said It Is Impossible – BBNaija Star, Boma Opens Up On Marriage Rejection (Video)

Former Big Brother Naija housemate Boma Akpore has disclosed that his relationship, which was on the path to marriage, was suddenly ended due to his partner’s family rejecting it.

Boma, in an interview with media personality, Chude Chideonwu, on the WithChude podcast, described the relationship as amazing, despite the normal ups and downs.

The reality TV star said his plans about marrying the lady were concrete, stressing that he was set to travel to the United States in August to purchase an engagement ring.

Boma said the situation changed dramatically when his partner’s family intervened and refused to accept him, citing things they had heard about him.

According to the BBNaija star, the rejection was a direct consequence of the public scrutiny that comes with his fame.

He said, “I met someone that I really liked and I was going to marry. I was supposed to be engaging her like last August, I was going to go to America, get the ring, bring it back because I liked her and I told her I was going to marry her.

“It was an amazing relationship, we had a little bit of ups and downs but it was perfect. I thought we had a perfect relationship till the family got involved and said ‘this guy? Hell no, impossible.’

“So that collapsed everything and that was very discouraging. If I was not in entertainment or public eye, nobody would know some things about me. Once you come on the public, that is the prize you have to pay.”

BBNaija Star, Imisi’s Mother Speaks On Abandoning Daughter Before BBNaija Win

The mother of BBNaija Season 10 winner Imisi Ayanwale has responded to allegations that she abandoned her daughter and resurfaced only after Imisi gained fame and wealth.

The issue gained attention after rumours spread online saying she had left her daughter behind and returned only following her success.

In a video shared widely, she thanked God and Nigerians for their support during challenging times.

She explained that she has been living quietly with her younger sister in Ajah, receiving help and hospitality from people who welcomed her, provided food, and clothing.

She described her time as peaceful despite the criticism she faced.

Responding to those who accused her of neglect, she said her decision to remain silent was intentional and a matter of prudence, not guilt.

She recounted that she was informed about Imisi’s win from the Big Brother house only a few hours before it happened and had little time to prepare.

She concluded by appealing to the public to treat one another with kindness and understanding instead of spreading hate.

She said: “I’ve received mercy from God. Thank you so much to all Nigerians I’m truly grateful. I’m staying with my younger sister in Ajah. Even though some people didn’t want me around, others welcomed me, clothed me, and fed me. I’ve been happy and at peace.

“Some people said I neglected my children. I’m thankful to both those who mean well and those who don’t. The elders say we should be swift to hear but slow to reply, and the Bible teaches us to always stand for the truth.

“Adeola that promised them the other day is no longer available, and now I’m the one they’re after. The same Adeola is now following Opeyemi; she didn’t fulfill any of her promises. I was the one running helter-skelter, doing everything just to make sure my daughter succeeded and could lift me out of poverty.

“Even the day I went to Big Brother, I wasn’t told until the last minute, around 4 p.m., to dress up because Imisi would be leaving the house that day. Is that how it’s supposed to be?

“Let’s learn to bridle our tongues and stop tearing each other down. Why can’t we just live in love instead of envy and hate?”

Police Officers Who Brutalized Me Have Been Found – BBNaija’s Adekunle Gives Update

Reality star, Adekunle Olopade has given an update on his police case.
According to him, the officers who brutalized him have been found and will face disciplinary action.
Recall that the media personality had earlier claimed that he was assaulted by the Nigerian Police.
According to him, the security personnel unjustly harassed him after taking a night drive in his mother’s car
However, speaking via his 𝕏 account, Adekunle confirmed that the officers involved in the case have been prosecuted.
“In the last few days, the only news you’ve heard from me has been difficult, but at this very moment, I would like to share some good news with you. I want to use this opportunity to thank the Lagos State Police Command Complaint Response Unit for their prompt attention to this matter.

“From reaching out, swinging into action the moment the news broke, and following up to make sure everything was okay. I have been in talks with the ACP in charge of the Area J Command, Elemoro, Ibeju Lekki, providing her with all the details necessary with hopes that the officers at fault would be found and brought to book,” he stated.
Adekunle also expressed his excitement about the development, urging citizens not to succumb to bullying from those in authority.
He urged Nigerians to report cases of harassment and police brutality. Adekunle also thanked the ACP, Oluyemisi Ojo, for taking up the case and ensuring justice was served.
“I am happy to let you know that I just left the Elemoro Police Station, and thanks to the effort and investigation of ACP Oluyemisi Ojo, the police officers were found, and disciplinary action has been taken against them.

“Justice has been served! I can’t begin to describe how much of a heavy burden and emotional weight has been lifted off my shoulders. The mere fact that justice can be served at a time where public trust for the police is very low is truly encouraging.

“For everyone who has ever been treated badly at the hands of police officers, please make sure you report the case. Get as much evidence as you can and take the matter up.

“The Lagos State Complaint Response Unit (on Instagram) works, and their job is to ensure the safety of the citizens while also sanitizing the system of the bad officers,” he added.
