Most Abandoned Estates in Abuja Are Owned by Corrupt Civil Servants – EFCC

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has revealed that several abandoned estates across the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, are owned by civil servants suspected of using stolen public funds to finance the projects.

EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede made this known during a policy dialogue in Abuja, organised by Law Corridor.

Olukoyede disclosed that the anti-graft agency has set up a special task force to investigate ownership of such properties nationwide

He said “I have set up a team. We will start visiting all the housing estates, not just in Abuja, but across Nigeria. We want to know who owns what.

“It will shock you that some of these estates have been abandoned for between 10 and 20 years.

“They just take the construction to a certain level and abandon it, and nobody knows what is going on.

“What we have been able to find out is that most of these estates are funded by civil servants, who have stolen money.

“So, the moment they leave public service and the money is no longer coming, they abandon the estates.

“The developer will now begin to look for investors to support them in completing the projects.

“That is one of the things we have discovered in some of these abandoned estates, and we have taken steps to begin to move against some of those estates.

“In recent times, we have had cause to file for the forfeiture of about 15 of them. We have got orders of interim forfeiture.

“What we have discovered is that the issue of money laundering is very rampant among estate developers. It is extremely rampant.

“There is no one who will go to any bank in Nigeria today and borrow money to invest in real estate and make a profit.

“Real estate development takes time; sometimes you are on a project for five years.

“So, if you have gone to a bank to take a loan at over 30 per cent interest, how do you survive?”

Dangote Refinery Reportedly Increases Fuel Price

Dangote Refinery increased its ex-depot price of Premium Motor Spirit to N850 per litre from N820.

The National President of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria, Abubakar Maigandi, disclosed in an interview on Friday.

This fresh increase represents a N30 hike in the ex-depot price of petrol.

“The new ex-depot price of petrol at the refinery is N850 per litre,”Maigandi said.

He also confirmed that the plant has resumed the sale of petrol products after its suspension last week.

The implication is that petroleum product marketers and retailers will have to pay more to get petrol products from the 650,000-barrel-per-day refinery.

Meanwhile, between last weekend and Monday this week, petroleum marketers, including the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, had increased their pump price to N955 per litre in Abuja before decreasing to N900.

Other filling stations like Ranoil, AA Rano, and Empire Energy currently dispense petrol between N950 and N955 per litre in Abuja.

WWE Legend, John Cena Reveals He Had Hair Transplant After Fans Ridiculed Him About Going Bald

WWE legend John Cena has opened up about how fans played a major role in his decision to get a hair transplant.

Unbelievable!!! Pastor Adeboye Reveals When He’s Going to Die

Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, has restated his vision of a peaceful passing, saying he believes he will die on a Sunday, after attending church and eating pounded yam.

Speaking during the fourth day of the church’s International Convention themed “The Overcomers”, Adeboye said he expects to die suddenly and without illness.

He noted that he first shared the vision two years ago and was repeating it to encourage believers that death can be peaceful for Christians.

I will die on a Sunday after attending service, eat my beloved pounded yam, and then pass on without any sickness,” he said.

Delivering a sermon titled “Possess Your Possessions”, Adeboye told Christians that while spiritual blessings like healing, prosperity, and long life are theirs in Christ, they often require spiritual effort to claim.

“In many cases, you may have to fight for things that are already yours,” he said, drawing from the biblical story of the Israelites and the Promised Land.

He explained that even though Jesus paid the price for healing and prosperity, believers must resist spiritual opposition.

Quoting John 10:10, he said, “Your greatest friend, Jesus Christ, paid a great price to purchase your healing. Yet there is a thief who comes to steal, kill, and destroy.”

On wealth, he said, “The One who owns the earth and its fullness, and owns all the silver and gold, paid a terrible price so that you wouldn’t be poor. As long as you want to remain poor, you will remain poor.”

Adeboye also criticised society’s attitude towards successful Christians, saying, “If you make it as a Christian, they criticise you. If you die poor, they say, ‘Where’s your God?’”

Using examples like Rachel and Hannah, who overcame barrenness through persistent prayer, he encouraged believers not to accept sickness, poverty, or premature death.

“It is what we tolerate that disturbs us. Stop tolerating sickness, poverty, barrenness, or premature death. Fight to possess your possessions,” he said.

NCAA Petitions IGP to Arrest KWAM 1 Over ValueJets Clash

The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority, NCAA, has submitted an official petition to both the Attorney-General of the Federation and the Inspector-General of Police, calling for veteran Fuji musician King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, also known as K1 De Ultimate, to be investigated and prosecuted over an incident involving a ValueJet plane.

On Tuesday, KWAM 1 attempted to block the aircraft from taxiing after being removed from the flight for reportedly carrying a flask of alcohol.

His behaviour has been widely described as a breach of standard operational procedures and a disregard for aviation safety protocols.

In a statement released on Thursday, the NCAA urged the Attorney-General and the IGP to “launch a thorough investigation into the incident.”

They also called on both offices to initiate “appropriate prosecution in accordance with the provisions of the Nigeria Civil Aviation Regulations 2023 supra and all other applicable laws.”

In addition, the Director General of Civil Aviation, Capt. Chris Najomo, has issued an advisory to the Airline Operators of Nigeria, recommending that K1 De Ultimate be placed on a No-Fly List until all investigations are concluded.

‘You’re A Stupid Boy’ — Otedola Recounts His Encounter With Obasanjo In New Book

Billionaire businessman, Femi Otedola has shared details of a heated encounter with former President Olusegun Obasanjo over diesel deregulation, in his forthcoming memoir titled Making It Big: Lessons from a Life in Business.

In excerpts from the book, Otedola recalled that Obasanjo lashed out at him in 2004 following reports of diesel scarcity across Nigeria.

At the time, the federal government had recently deregulated diesel importation based on advice from Otedola and other private sector players.

Otedola’s company, Zenon Petroleum, had assured the presidency that private firms could meet national demand without the involvement of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), which was then the sole importer, operating under a subsidy regime.

“When President Obasanjo deregulated diesel in 2004, Zenon took an unassailable lead in the market,” Otedola wrote.
“My opponents’ reaction was to tell the president that we’d turned the market upside down… and that industries were shutting down because there was no diesel.”

According to him, Obasanjo called him around 2am, visibly furious. “‘You’re a stupid boy! God will punish you!’ he shouted. ‘You persuaded me to deregulate diesel, and now there’s no diesel in the country!’”

Otedola said he flew to Abuja the next day to clarify the situation. “As soon as Obasanjo saw me, he flew into a rage again… I allowed him to cool down, and when he stopped talking, I explained the situation,” he wrote.

He told the former president that there were six ships with diesel waiting to discharge, and provided letters of credit as evidence.

He also alleged that some officials within the NNPC, opposed to deregulation, had deliberately misled the president to protect their subsidy benefits.

To counter the misinformation, Otedola said he began publishing the availability and price of diesel in newspapers to reassure the public and government of steady supply.

He described Obasanjo as a “determined and robust president” who, once convinced of a person’s integrity, stood firm in his support.
