Prepare To Return To Lagos In 2027 – Ex-Minister Dalung Warns Tinubu

Solomon Dalung, a former Minister of Youth and Sports Development, has cautioned that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu could be forced to return to Lagos after only one term in office.

Dalung, who is a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), gave the warning in an interview with the Nigerian Tribune on Saturday.

According to him, the failure of both the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to meet the expectations of Nigerians has opened the door for new political forces like the ADC.

“Tinubu may come to the conclusion that he should be preparing to return to Lagos by May 29, 2027,”
Dalung said.

He noted that many Nigerians are tired of the worsening economic hardship, insecurity, and poor governance, stressing that citizens will soon demand a new political direction.

Dalung dismissed President Tinubu’s earlier description of the ADC as a camp for internally displaced politicians, saying the party is fast emerging as one of the strongest platforms ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“The ADC is not just another minor opposition party. We are building a movement that will shock even the most doubtful Nigerians,”
he said.

Although he did not unveil specific strategies, the former minister explained that the ADC is in talks with stakeholders across the country and will present credible candidates who can challenge the current system.

Tinubu will win South-East in 2027 — APC chieftain

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State, Professor Anthony Agbazuere, has expressed confidence that the South-East will support President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.

Speaking at a stakeholders’ meeting of APC members from the old Aba political bloc in Ikem Nvosi, Isialangwa Local Government Area, Agbazuere urged potential presidential aspirants to drop their ambitions and allow Tinubu to complete his programs for the nation.

He argued that the president’s policies have brought stability to the economy and renewed hope among Nigerians. According to him, the removal of fuel subsidy has opened up significant resources for development, enabling state governors and local government chairmen to deliver more effectively.

Agbazuere also highlighted the establishment of the South-East Development Commission as a landmark initiative, saying it demonstrates Tinubu’s commitment to rebuilding the region and has further endeared him to the people of the zone.

He said …

“As members of the APC, we are very happy that we have a president who is working very hard, who is exceptional as a leader. President Bola Tinubu is a special species of man. Only those who have little IQ will dispute that.

“President Tinubu came in as president of Nigeria when the former government was printing money to survive. What they call wages and means. They were printing money to survive. And that meant keeping our children and grandchildren in a state of indebtedness for life. Pushing our troubles and our problems forward for our children and grandchildren. President Bola Tinubu came in and said no.

“Living a false life. For how long shall that be? That a lot of people were making so much money from the fuel subsidy. Because at that time, people would buy fuel from Nigeria and go and sell the same fuel to countries outside Nigeria at the boundaries of Nigeria and make billions of Naira.

“Nigeria was subsidising not just for Nigerians alone, but for other countries around Nigeria. And that meant it was wrong. And President Tinubu said no.

“He now had to remove the fuel subsidy and all the quantum of funds coming from there. He started pushing those funds, those monies, back to the people through the state governments and local governments. And that’s why he’s saying that we should go to state governments to account for these monies.”

Agbazuere further commended President Tinubu for championing local government autonomy but criticized state governors for allegedly obstructing the implementation of the Supreme Court judgment upholding the policy.

“And this is the only government too that came on board and saw the need for local governments to be autonomous. The federal government of Nigeria, under President Tinubu, had to file a suit at the Supreme Court.

“And the Supreme Court delivered a judgment that funds meant for local governments should be given to them directly. Even up to now, the states are still disobeying.”

On education, Agbazuere praised President Tinubu for initiating the student loan scheme, which he said would enable children from poor backgrounds to complete their university studies.

“This is the same government and the only government that has come up to say, look, children of poor parents, you must not be chased away from universities.

“I am introducing student loans for you to pay your school fees. And you can only pay back when you start working at your convenience, and of course, gradually. But to make sure you complete your school education, your university education, we must support you as a government,” he added.

The APC chieftain added that President Tinubu has reformed the tax system in a way that exempts low-income earners from paying taxes in Nigeria.

“Today, if you’re not working in Nigeria, you won’t pay tax. Who has ever done this before? If not Tinubu, so why must we not support such a person that says that the rich who get so much money should be paying their tax.

“Those who have not gotten enough as salary should not pay tax. Where does this ever happen? Is it not Nigeria? Is it not Tinubu? That’s what we are saying. Such a person should be allowed to exhaust his program of action.

“President Tinubu is focused. He is visionary. And that’s what people like us at my level as a professor of laws, I say, look, allow this man. Those who think they have other ideas should wait after his tenure of eight years. They can come and let us all see what they have,” he said.

Atiku Lists Nine Electoral Reforms Tinubu’s Govt Must Fulfill Before 2027 Election

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has listed nine electoral reforms that must be made by President Bola Tinubu’s administration before election can be held in 2027.
According to him, these reforms will restore electoral integrity and strengthen Nigeria’s democracy.
In a statement posted on X on Thursday, Atiku warned that unless reforms are implemented, public confidence in the democratic process will continue to erode.
He wrote: “The enthusiasm of Nigerians in the ongoing continuous voters registration of PVCs is commendable and indicative of the commitment of Nigerians to take their destinies in their hands in choosing their leaders in the next elections cycle.

However, it is not just enough to demand that eligible voters register for their PVCs.

It is pertinent that far-reaching electoral and judicial reforms are undertaken to ensure electoral integrity, strengthen public confidence, and promote judicial independence.

Over time, the quality of our elections has continued to depreciate with voter turnout at an all-time low during the 2023 elections. Of the total 93.47 million registered voters, only 24.9 million persons voted in the last presidential and National Assembly elections. This represents a meagre 26.72 per cent voter turnout, the lowest since the return to democracy in 1999.

Something needs to be done to check this slide if citizens are to continue to have an appetite for the democratic processes and the prospects that it holds. The issues of BVAS, electronic transmission, and all other associated issues need to be addressed to the extent that they’re constitutionally provided for in order not to leave it to the whims and caprices of judges. As Prof. Chidi Odinkalu warned in his book, “The Selectorate: When Judges Topple The People,” Judges, “once constrained arbiters of electoral disputes, have become increasingly unconstrained in determining who holds power — shifting legitimacy from voters to the courts. In some cases, this influence has extended beyond the courtroom, creating a system where a small, connected elite decides leadership under the cover of legal process.”

The envisaged electoral and judicial reforms will return the power to the people to choose their leaders and not a conclave of interested parties.

There should be an amendment in the 2022 Electoral Act, providing for: First, mandatory use of BVAS for accreditation of voters and upload of election results from all the polling units and collation centres across Nigeria without any provision for discretion to the Independent National Electoral Commission (@inecnigeria) for manual accreditation of voters.

Second, mandatory electronic transmission of election results from the polling units to the iREV without any provision for discretion to the Independent National Electoral Commission for manual transmission of election results.

Third, collation of results at the Ward Collation Centers on the basis of the results already electronically transmitted to the iREV from the polling units without any provision for manual collation of results at the Ward  Centers.

Fourth, collation of results at the Local Government or Area Council Collation Centers on the basis of the results already electronically transmitted to the iREV from the Ward Collation Centers without any provision for manual collation of results at the Local Government or Area Council Centers.

Fifth, collation of results at the State Collation Centers on the basis of the results already electronically transmitted to the iREV from the Local Government Collation Centers without any provision for manual collation of results at the State Center.

Sixth, collation of results at the National Collation Center on the basis of the results already electronically transmitted to the iREV from the State Collation Centers without any provision for manual collation of results at the National Council Center.

Seventh, at no point shall manual accreditation of voters, transmission of results, and collation of results be allowed.

Eight, the position of the Chairman of INEC, Resident Electoral Commissioners, and the National Electoral Commissioners shall be subjected to a democratic voting by the people.

Ninth, INEC to prove substantial compliance with the provisions of the Electoral Act and the Constitution in the conduct of the election in an election petition and not the petitioner. -AA”

Welfare Demands: ASUU Rejects Tinubu’s Loan Offer, Calls it a Greek Gift

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has rejected the federal government’s loan proposal for its members.
ASUU described the loan as a “Greek gift.”
This position was taken by the University of Lagos (UNILAG) chapter of the union during a special congress held on Tuesday, August 26.
The union also unanimously resolved to support all measures being considered by its national leadership to press home their demands.
Addressing members after a solidarity march from the Main Gate through the campus, Branch Chairman Prof. Idowu Kehinde said that if the government honored its obligations to lecturers, there would be no need for loans.
“The loans are to be guaranteed by our union. This is not necessary. The Governing Council of each university can give loans to our members based on our condition of service.

If we are paid a living wage and if all our allowances are paid as expected, who would want to go borrowing money? Let them do the needful and we are okay,” he said.

There Is No More Corruption in Nigeria – President Tinubu Tells Brazil’s President

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has claimed that there is no more corruption in Nigeria.
He stated this while assuring Brazilian investors that Nigeria’s economic reforms are yielding results.
The President gave the assurance on Monday during a meeting with ministers from both countries and members of the Brazil Business Group.
He emphasized Nigeria’s commitment to deepening partnerships in areas such as technology transfer, food security, manufacturing, and renewable energy.
Describing Nigeria as a “vast, untapped market full of opportunities for Brazilian companies,” Tinubu acknowledged that the reforms introduced by his government were “initially painful, but today the result is blossoming.”

“It’s getting clearer to the people. We have more money for the economy, and no more corruption,” he said.
Highlighting efforts to entrench transparency, the President referenced operations at the Central Bank of Nigeria. “You don’t have to know him before getting the foreign exchange you need. The speculators are out. In our currency market, the door is open for businesses.”
Looking back on his earlier visits to Brazil, the Nigerian president stressed the need to shift from symbolic relations to practical economic collaboration.

“We have allowed some problems and activities in the past to deter us from making progress and fulfilling our promises, but today we say that is the end of that.”
In a statement released by presidential spokesperson Mr. Bayo Onanuga, it was disclosed that President Tinubu attended a state luncheon at the Itamaraty Palace, where talks focused on strengthening economic cooperation, boosting trade, and promoting innovation-driven partnerships.
The signing of new bilateral agreements is set to enhance collaboration between Nigeria and Brazil, creating new avenues for sustainable development and technological exchange.

“I beg you, reform the Nigeria Police” – Speed Darlington begs Tinubu, says ‘everything is not about economy’

Controversial singer Speed Darlington has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to carry out urgent reforms in the Nigeria Police Force, emphasizing the need to protect citizens’ rights beyond economic growth.

In a video shared on Saturday, August 23, the musician urged the President to prioritize police reforms, stressing that leadership is about more than just boosting the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

“Mr. President, before you leave office, whether you secure a second term or not, try your best to improve Nigeria. Everything isn’t about the economy! There is more to leadership than the economy,” he said.

“The Nigerian police is an oppressive agency rooted in human rights violation. As a matter of fact, if they do not violate you, it is as if they are not even doing their job. Please, before you leave office, speak to your Yoruba brother, the IGP.”

The singer recounted his own experience with law enforcement, saying he was detained for two months despite a court order for his release.

I was held for two months after the judge had ordered my release. The FID held me for 2 months. According to my lawyer, the Nigerian law allows only 28 days for investigation. They held me for two months. What is the extra month for? Because they can. If you give them money, they oppress your enemy. I have experienced it,” he added.

Tinubu Unveils Personal Income Tax Calculator for Nigerians

President Bola Tinubu has announced the launch of the personal income tax calculator.
The tax calculator was launched on Thursday to help Nigerians estimate their tax liabilities under the new tax regime that takes effect in January 2026.
In a post on X, Tinubu said the tool was developed to simplify compliance, ensure fairness, and protect low-income earners.
“With the new tax laws I recently signed, taking effect from January 2026, we have lifted this burden and created a path of equity, fairness, and true redistribution in our economy,” he wrote.
According to him, the calculator allows individuals to compare their estimated tax under the new laws with what they currently pay, highlighting the reforms’ progressivity and transparency.
The president urged citizens to try the tool at fiscalreforms.ng, while calling on Nigerians to have faith in the country’s future.
Recall that Tinubu recently signed four tax reform bills into law: the Nigeria Tax (Fair Taxation) Law, the Nigeria Tax Administration Law, the Joint Revenue Board (Establishment) Law, and the Nigeria Revenue Service (Establishment) Law.
The laws will come into effect on January 1, 2026, and are aimed at restoring fairness in the tax system and boosting inclusive economic growth.

I Will Support Anyone Who Backs Tinubu – Wike

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike has pledged to give his support to President Bola Tinubu.
This is as he also called on residents of Abuja to support Tinubu, stating that he will support anyone who supports Tinubu.
Wike made the statement while commending former Senator representing the FCT, Philip Aduda, and the Chairman of the Abuja Municipal Area Council, Christopher Maikalangu, during the flag-off of Lot 2 of Water Supply Projects in Karu, on Thursday.
The minister hailed both men for their capacity and for bringing development to the people, while promising the construction of a 2km road in Karu site, on the request of Aduda, adding that he will support those who continue to support the Tinubu-led administration.
He further commended the AMAC Chairman, Maikalangu, as “very good and hardworking”, noting that the latter had used his access to government to deliver several projects to his residents in the area council, adding that his administration will do, whatever he asked if he (Maikalangu) won his re-election bid as council chairman.
“There is a road where you said is about 2km, is it not? Consider it done. You know, one thing about government and politics, support those who have capacity to bring something to the people. Support those that government will listen to.

“From what happened now, you see that Aduda, government has his ear where he is. And that’s why government said where is that road he mentioned? Consider it done.

“You can see that since he (Maikalangu) became the Chairman of AMAC, he has brought government to do Saburi Road, he has brought the government to do Kabusa-Takushere Road, he has brought government to redo this road. He has brought government to do Deidei Road.

“For me, I’m here to talk about those who have access to government and bring something to the people.

“The chairman has access to us. Anything he tells us, we will do. This is the only man I know. If he wins as chairman of AMAC, we will give him whatever he wants. I don’t know the party he belongs to. But I know that he supports Tinubu. Anybody who supports Tinubu, I will support him,” Wike said.
The minister pointed out that past governments had failed to provide the needs of the people, particularly water supply to the communities in Karu, noting that the government of Tinubu has fulfilled its promise to provide potable water to satellite towns.
“We have had a government who stayed here for five years, isn’t that correct? We have had a government who stayed here for eight years too, is that correct? Has any government come to say, look, we will provide you water? Have you had water before? Did this government promise it will give you water? Have we come now to give you water?

“So, you believe you have a covenant with this government. And the covenant is like somebody said, agreement is agreement. So, the people of Karu, you will readily remember the government that remembers you, is it not correct?

“Will you remember those who had the opportunity and they refused to do anything for you? Will you remember those who left Karu unattended, will you remember them? So, we have come to fulfil the promise we made to you, that you must have clean and potable water,” he stated.
PUNCH Online reports that Aduda represented the FCT on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party between 2011 and 2015, and was re-elected in 2015 and again in 2019, before losing the seat in the 2023 general elections.
Meanwhile, Maikalangu is seeking re-election as Chairman of AMAC in the forthcoming February 2026 Area Council elections, on the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress, after defecting from the PDP in 2024.

NYSC ‘Still Processing’ Petition Of Lagos Corps Member Punished For Criticising Tinubu – Sowore

Human rights activist and #RevolutionNow convener, Omoyele Sowore, has revealed that the registration office of the NYSC Director General confirmed that the petition submitted by Lagos State female corps member, Ushie Rita Uguamaye, also known as “Raye,” requesting the release of her discharge certificate, is currently being processed.

Sowore, a former presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), made the disclosure on Wednesday in a post on his X (formerly Twitter) account, while giving an update on his visit to the NYSC headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday.

SaharaReporters on August 12, 2025, reported that Uguamaye petitioned the NYSC DG over the “unlawful and politically motivated” extension of her service year by two months, allegedly in retaliation for her criticism of President Bola Tinubu and his administration.

The petition, signed by Inibehe Effiong, Principal Counsel of Inibehe Effiong Chambers, accused the NYSC of victimisation and abuse of power.

The petition maintained that Uguamaye was singled out for punishment after she publicly criticised Tinubu’s government policies.

The petition further alleged that the Lagos State Coordinator of the NYSC had threatened her with a service extension following her comments.

The petition demanded the immediate reversal of the two-month extension and the issuance of Ms. Uguamaye’s discharge certificate without delay.

It also warned that failure to comply would lead to a formal appeal to the Presidency and possible legal action.

In his post on Wednesday, Sowore narrated that during his visit to the NYSC headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday, he, Ms. Uguamaye’s lawyer, Barrister Inibehe Effiong, and others who went with him to meet with the DG were initially denied access and harassed by officers of the Nigerian Army deployed to the facility.

“Yesterday, we returned to the National Youth Service Corps Headquarters to follow up on our letter demanding that the Director-General Brigadier General OO Nafiu release Ushie Rita “Raye” Uguamaye’s discharge certificate,” Sowore said.

“Instead of granting us access to see the DG, Nigerian Army officers deployed at the premises harassed us simply for exercising our right to document our movement with video recordings.”

Sowore added that all senior officials, including the DG of the NYSC, “conveniently instructed their staff to tell us they were ‘not on seat’”.

However, Sowore noted, “After persistent effort, the registration office on the DG’s floor finally admitted that our letter, submitted by Barrister Inibehe Effiong, is ‘still being processed’”.

He vowed, “We will not relent. We will return to the NYSC Headquarters until justice is done and Raye receives her rightful discharge certificate without further delay.”

JUST IN: Tinubu scraps 5% telecom tax to ease burden on Nigerians

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has scrapped the five per cent levy on telecommunications services to ease cost pressures on subscribers.

The Executive Vice-Chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Dr. Aminu Maida, confirmed the development during an interactive session with journalists in Abuja on Tuesday.

He explained that while the duty had initially been suspended, the President has now ordered its complete removal.

The levy was part of a broader tax reform bill introduced in 2022 under former President Muhammadu Buhari. However, public backlash over its potential impact on consumers forced the Tinubu administration to put it on hold in July 2023.

Maida stressed that the removal would reduce pressure on subscribers while also stimulating growth in the telecom sector, which remains central to Nigeria’s digital economy.

He added that the NCC was introducing reforms focused on transparency, consumer protection and improved governance within the industry.

He revealed that a public map of network performance would be released in September, providing independent data on download speeds, latency, and other service quality indicators.

He also said the commission would begin publishing a quarterly network performance report based on user data to improve accountability for both operators and infrastructure providers.

The NCC boss further explained that the commission was strengthening corporate governance structures to attract investment and ensure Nigerian-owned telecom firms can compete globally.

He noted that the 2000 telecom policy successfully broke monopoly and expanded competition, but that new realities such as artificial intelligence, internet of things, and remote technologies require fresh policy direction.

Maida also highlighted progress in resolving USSD debt disputes, NIN-SIM audit, transition to end-user billing, and the launch of a Major Incident Reporting Portal.

On consumer complaints about rapid data depletion, Maida disclosed that audits by top accounting firms found no systemic fraud but identified factors such as device settings, background app usage, and complex tariff plans.

He assured Nigerians that a new framework developed by the NCC and the Central Bank of Nigeria would standardise recharge processes.

The Director of Consumer Affairs Bureau, Freda Bruce-Bennett, advised subscribers to adopt data-saving measures such as turning off autoplay on social media, limiting background data, and relying on Wi-Fi where possible.

According to the NCC, Nigeria currently has 172 million active telecom subscribers, with 141 million using the internet and 105 million on broadband services.

NCC’s Director of Public Affairs, Nnenna Ukoha, commended the media for amplifying the commission’s policies and urged journalists to continue engaging with the regulator in the interest of transparency.
