Tinubu Will Finish His 8 Years Before Power Will Return to the North – Governor Umar Bago

Governor Umar Bago of Niger State has slammed those agitating for a northern presidency.
This is as he declared that political power will return to the northern region after President Bola Tinubu completes a second term in office.
Speaking on a TVC program, Bago criticised those already agitating for a northern presidency just two years into Tinubu’s tenure, warning that such demands were premature.

“For crying out loud, this man has just spent two years in office and you want it to come back to the north. How?” the governor asked.“When he finishes his eight years, power will come to the north and northerners who want to contest can then contest.”

Tinubu Approves Appointment Of Five New Permanent Secretaries

President Bola Tinubu has given approval for commencement of the process of appointing five new permanent secretaries.
This is according to the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation.
According to the Head of Service, Didi Walson-Jack, the vacancies include two arising from the recent retirement of permanent secretaries from Imo State and the Federal Capital Territory, and three zonal slots for the North-Central, North-East and South-East, created after the establishment of new ministries.
In a statement released by the Director of Information and Public Relations in the OHCSF, Eno Olotu, noted that the recruitment process was structured to guarantee transparency, credibility and merit in line with the government’s commitment to good governance.
Walson-Jack explained that only directors on Grade Level 17 who had spent at least two years on the grade, and who had been cleared by their permanent secretaries as not facing disciplinary action, were eligible to apply.
She added that the exercise began with the compilation and screening of eligible officers by a Committee of Permanent Secretaries, monitored by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission and the Department of State Services.
“Candidates also completed asset declaration forms with the Code of Conduct Bureau, while clearances from the EFCC, ICPC and DSS are ongoing,” she said.
The HOS disclosed that a written examination for shortlisted officers would be held on September 15, followed by an ICT proficiency test on September 17.
The final stage, an oral interview, is slated for September 19 and will be conducted by a panel comprising serving and retired permanent secretaries, former heads of service, the chairman of the Federal Civil Service Commission and representatives from the private sector.
“Anti-corruption agencies will also observe the process. The final recommendations will be submitted to the President for approval,” Walson-Jack stressed.

Tinubu hails Hilda Baci as she completes attempt at largest pot of jollof rice

Celebrity chef Hilda Baci, on Friday, is a step closer to another historic culinary milestone as she completes her attempt to cook the world’s largest pot of jollof rice, setting her sights on official recognition from the Guinness World Records(GWR).

The record-breaking effort, held at Eko Hotels and Suites in Lagos, drew thousands of fans, food lovers, and content creators, transforming the venue into a vibrant food festival.

With over 20,000 people registered to attend, the atmosphere was electric as vendors offered snacks, meals, and drinks from various Nigerian ethnic groups while security officials and medics ensured a smooth experience.

The ambitious feat was achieved with a custom-built six-metre-wide pot designed to hold 22,619 litres of food. Baci announced plans to use 250 bags of rice for the challenge, with servings made available to attendees once the dish was completed.

Accolades from President Tinubu

Congratulating her on the achievement, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, described the attempt as “another demonstration of Nigeria’s global excellence.”

Speaking through the Director-General of the Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria, Dr. Olalekan Fadolapo, Idris commended Baci’s resilience and precision.

On behalf of President Bola Tinubu, the minister extended best wishes to the chef, stressing that her achievement represented “a collective national victory.”

“The Federal Government lauds Hilda Baci’s extraordinary effort in putting Nigeria once again on the global map. Her dedication to excellence and her unrelenting pursuit of greatness exemplify the Nigerian spirit that the world has come to appreciate,” Idris said.

He further pledged the government’s support for similar projects that showcase Nigeria’s cultural and creative excellence abroad, urging young Nigerians to emulate Baci’s discipline and hard work.

History of Chef Hilda Baci’s record attempts

Baci, who rose to international fame in 2023 after breaking the Guinness World Record for the longest cooking marathon with a 93-hour effort, has continued to position Nigerian cuisine on the global stage.

Her latest attempt comes against the backdrop of the longstanding culinary rivalry between Nigeria and Ghana over jollof rice supremacy, further amplifying the cultural pride associated with the dish.

As the world awaits Guinness World Records’ official confirmation, Nigerians are already celebrating the feat as a triumph of creativity, resilience, and national pride.

You Can’t Tell Me How To Criticise Tinubu – Sowore Replies DSS

Human rights activist and former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore has refused the Department of State Services’ (DSS) demand to withdraw a social media post criticizing President Bola Tinubu.

Sowore said DSS has no business telling him how to criticise the President.

“You have no business telling me how to criticise the President. But, knowing the nature of your service, it is clear you have not learnt your lessons. Let me state it clearly once again: the determination of the Nigerian people to reclaim their country from thieves in power is unwavering. And it shall be achieved. Freedom cometh by struggle. Aluta continua, victoria ascerta,” Sowore said.

In a letter addressed to the DSS Director General, Sowore dismissed the agency’s request as unlawful and an attempt to act as a proxy for the president.

Sowore said the DSS had a long history of repression against him, recounting several instances of alleged rights violations dating back to his days as a student leader in the 1990s.

He cited arrests in 1993, 1996, and 2019, including his detention on allegations of treason and money laundering, as well as the invasion of a Federal High Court during his trial.

He accused the DSS of acting “bullishly, illegally and unlawfully” under successive governments and said its attempt to demand a retraction on behalf of Tinubu was “fundamentally defective” and unconstitutional.

“The DSS has dragged me through unscrupulous abuse and gross violations of rights for decades without remorse,”
Sowore wrote.

Quoting constitutional provisions and African human rights treaties, he argued that freedom of speech protects citizens’ right to criticize public officials. He said defamation is a personal matter and cannot be pursued by the DSS on behalf of the president.

He added that his criticism of government was consistent with his long-standing activism and political convictions, insisting that Nigerians remain determined to reclaim the country from “thieves in power.”

Tinubu’s Government May Soon Turn To Opay For Loan – Dino Melaye

Dino Melaye, a former senator, has raised alarm over Nigeria’s growing debt.
According to him, with the rate the government of President Bola Tinubu is going, it may soon turn to Fintech platform, Opay for loan.
Recall that recently, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) said the new wave of borrowing will drive Nigeria’s public debt beyond N200 trillion before the end of the year.
In a statement, National Publicity Secretary of the party, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC accused President Tinubu of surpassing his predecessor by mortgaging the country’s future in mountains of debts in the name of economic reform.
Speaking on ARISE Television, on Monday, Melaye accused the government of plunging Nigerians into massive hunger despite securing billions of dollars in loans.
“There is massive hunger in the land. Why is the president borrowing $1.7 billion from the World Bank? Why has the senate approved $21 billion so far with many others coming for consideration?”

“This government is one of the most reckless governments in the history of this country. The president who said he wanted to come and curb wastages bought a yacht.

“That yacht he bought has never been to the perimeters, the territorial areas of Nigeria—it’s been between Monaco and Paris. And what do we need a yacht for in a time of austerity and pervasive hunger?

“He has borrowed like no other president in the history of the country. If you are making more money, then why are you borrowing? We will not be surprised if the president starts borrowing from Opay and Moniepoint very soon,” he said.

DSS Summons Sowore Over Post on Tinubu

The Department of State Services (DSS) has reportedly summoned activist and Sahara Reporters publisher, Omoyele Sowore.
According to TheNation, DSS summoned him over what it described as a “false and malicious” social media post directed at President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Recall that Sowore took to X to few days ago to slam President Tinubu, describing him as a “criminal.”
The Nation reported that in a letter dated September 7, 2025, signed by Uwem Davies on behalf of the Director-General, the DSS demanded that Sowore retract his statement on X (formerly Twitter) and issue a public apology within one week.
The Service accused Sowore of calling the President a “criminal” in an August 26 post, where he allegedly ridiculed Tinubu’s anti-corruption remarks during his visit to Brazil. According to the DSS, the comment was “repugnant, derogatory and capable of inciting public disturbance.”
The letter outlined conditions for compliance, requiring Sowore to post an unequivocal retraction on X, publish apologies in at least two national newspapers and two television stations, and submit a representation to the DSS headquarters in Abuja or by email. The agency also copied the United States Embassy in Abuja on the matter.
The DSS warned that Sowore’s comments had the potential to diminish the President’s standing domestically and internationally, and could provoke disunity, insurrection, or a breakdown of law and order.

“Persons of your status who are campaigning to lead this country must exercise restraint and responsibility in their speech,” the Service stated, adding that failure to comply would invite lawful action.

Corper Raye Petitions Tinubu Over ‘Unlawful’ NYSC Service Year Extension

Embattled corps member, Rita Uguamaye has written a petition asking President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to intervene in her “unlawful and politically motivated” service year extension.
Uguamaye, popularly known as Raye wrote the petition through her lawyer, Inibehe Effiong, Esq.
She accused the NYSC of victimisation and abuse of power, claiming she was deliberately targeted for publicly criticising some policies of the Tinubu administration.
In a petition addressed to the President and copied to the NYSC Director-General, the Executive Secretary of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), and other stakeholders, Uguamaye demanded the immediate reversal of the two-month extension and the issuance of her discharge certificate.
The petition, titled “Appeal Against the Unlawful Extension of the Service Year of Corps Member Ushie Rita Uguamaye with State Code Number LA/24B/8325,” reads in part:

“We are Solicitors to Ms. Ushie Rita Uguamaye (hereinafter referred to as ‘our Client’), a Corps member whose service year was unlawfully extended under the National Youth Service (NYSC) scheme, and upon whose firm instruction and behalf we write this letter to you.

“Our Client has drawn our attention to the arbitrary and punitive decision of the NYSC to extend her service year by two (2) months on the unfounded allegation that she failed to present herself for the April 2025 biometric monthly clearance. We state emphatically that this allegation is false, malicious, and a clear act of victimization.

“For the record, our Client duly presented herself for the said April biometric monthly clearance on the 7th day of April, 2025. However, her Local Government Inspector (LGI), Ms. Veronica Abela, in an act of deliberate and targeted victimization, refused to screen her. This act was not due to any dereliction of duty on our Client’s part, but rather in retaliation for her exercise of her constitutionally guaranteed right to freedom of expression, after she had publicly criticized certain policies of the current Tinubu-led administration.

“It is further disturbing that following this criticism, the Lagos State Coordinator of NYSC threatened our Client with an extension of her service year. That threat has now been carried out, in clear abuse of power, violation of the Constitution, and breach of the NYSC Act.

“Despite writing a detailed petition dated 11th August, 2025 to the Director-General (DG) of the NYSC, who is statutorily obligated to ensure fairness, discipline, and impartiality within the scheme, no redress has been given till date. The DG has failed to accede to our Client’s legitimate demand for reversal of this manifestly unjust decision. This has made it necessary for us to seek the intervention of the Presidency. Please find attached herewith the petition written to the Director-General of NYSC dated 11th August 2025.”
Effiong argued that the case violates Raye’s constitutional rights to freedom of expression and fair hearing, warning that allowing such practices to stand would set a “dangerous precedent for democracy.”
The human rights lawyer urged Tinubu to intervene immediately, stressing that failure to do so could be seen as tacit approval of political victimisation within the NYSC. He further hinted that the corps member may head to court if no action is taken.

Tinubu Seeks Fresh $1.75bn World Bank Loan

The Federal Government has said it plans to secure fresh loans of $1.75bn from the World Bank.
This is coming days after president Bola Tinbuu had boasted that the government recorded a 40.5 per cent rise in revenue during the first eight months of 2025.
The Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga had on Wednesday claimed that the government revenues between January and August 2025 rose to N20.59tn, up from N14.6tn in the same period last year. Non-oil earnings now account for 75 per cent of the total collections, surpassing earlier projections.
Onanuga noted that the strong revenue performance places the country on track to achieve its annual non-oil revenue target.
“From January to August 2025, total collections reached N20.59tn, a 40.5 per cent increase from N14.6tn recorded in 2024. This strong performance aligns with projections, placing the government firmly on course to achieve its annual non-oil revenue target,” the statement partly read.
However, despite this increase, the government says borrowing remains necessary to bridge gaps in critical sectors, especially infrastructure.
On Wednesday, members of the All Indigenous Contractors Association of Nigeria protested at the Ministry of Finance in Abuja, demanding the payment of about N4tn for projects carried out in 2024. To bridge such gaps, the government is turning to external financing.
Documents on the World Bank’s website show that Nigeria is in line to receive four major loans before the end of 2025. These include funding for agriculture, digital infrastructure, healthcare, and support for small businesses.
Each of the projects is scheduled for approval between September and December, with disbursements expected to begin once the processes are completed.
The latest loans will add to the $8.40bn already approved for Nigeria by the World Bank between June 2023 and August 2025. These earlier funds were committed to projects in energy, education, healthcare, rural development, and governance reforms.
