KWAM 1 nearly knocked down by aircraft at airport

Veteran Fuji musician King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, popularly known as KWAM 1, was nearly hit by a ValueJet aircraft on Wednesday morning at the Abuja airport in a dramatic incident that has sparked widespread concern.

According to eyewitness accounts, the singer was scheduled to board a ValueJet flight from Abuja to Lagos but was reportedly deboarded by the flight crew for allegedly violating aviation regulations. The nature of the violation has not been officially disclosed.

Enraged by the development, KWAM 1 allegedly stormed onto the tarmac and attempted to stop the aircraft from taking off by standing in front of it.

In a now-viral video circulating on social media, the Fuji icon can be seen confronting ground staff as the aircraft begins to taxi. The footage shows a tense moment where the plane moves dangerously close to KWAM 1, narrowly avoiding a collision.

Aviation experts and social media users have raised questions about how the incident was allowed to escalate to that point, with some accusing the airline of endangering lives by proceeding with the take-off process despite the presence of a pedestrian on the runway.

ValueJet and airport authorities are yet to issue an official statement as of press time.

Barcelona face La Liga block over Ter Stegen injury

Barcelona’s attempt to exploit La Liga’s injury exemption rule to register a new goalkeeper has hit a major snag, as Marc-André ter Stegen refuses to authorize the release of his medical records.

Following surgery on his back, the club hoped to use the injury rule, which permits clubs to replace players out for four months or more by reallocating 50-80% of their salary.

Barça planned to bring in Joan Garcia under this provision.

However, La Liga are refusing to process ter Stegen’s medical report without his signed consent.

Despite Barcelona claiming they have legal grounds to bypass his approval under data protection exemptions, the league insists the rules are clear, no signature, no review.

Cadena SER reports that unless ter Stegen relents, the Blaugrana will be blocked from registering Garcia or any replacement using the injury rule.

Barcelona had planned to meet the goalkeeper upon returning from South Korea to resolve the issue.

However, Diario AS now says the meeting has been cancelled.

The club, reportedly incensed by ter Stegen’s stance, believes he is acting in bad faith and undermining the team.

Without a breakthrough, Barcelona may enter the new La Liga season without a registered senior goalkeeper to cover ter Stegen’s prolonged absence.

Paul Scholes argues Gyokeres ‘suitability’ for Arsenal

Paul Scholes has expressed doubts over Viktor Gyokeres’ suitability for Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal side.

This follows the striker’s £64 million move from Sporting Lisbon.

Speaking on The Overlap Fan Debate, the Manchester United legend questioned whether Gyokeres was Arteta’s first-choice signing, pointing to Arsenal’s prolonged negotiations and indecision.

Gyokeres, who struggled during an earlier stint at Brighton, rebuilt his career at Coventry City before exploding at Sporting, where he scored 97 goals in 102 appearances, including 52 last season and a Champions League hat-trick against Manchester City.

While acknowledging the Swede’s impressive record, Scholes queried his tactical fit at Arsenal.

He said that Gyokeres thrived in a counter-attacking system at Sporting, which contrasts with Arsenal’s possession-heavy approach.

“Is he going to be clever enough to make those runs in behind when Arsenal dominate the ball?” Scholes asked.

He also contrasted Gyokeres with Newcastle’s Alexander Isak, suggesting the latter possesses the movement and intelligence suited to a team like Arsenal.

Meanwhile, Gyokeres’ lacklustre debut, just two touches in 13 minutes during a 1-0 loss to Spurs in Hong Kong, did little to silence critics.

He said the money is a gift to honour his later mother who died 11 years ago.

Sharing his pain, he added, “My love, I couldn’t bring myself to make another video this year, so I’m just going to use the same one from last year. 11 years, gone by too fast. I want to stand on a mountain and scream loudly, maybe somehow you’ll hear me say ‘I miss you!.

“Life’s been tough, cold, mean, I can’t even lie, it gets lonely sometimes. I struggle with a lot of things, I have questions no one can answer, I make mistakes, I fall, sometimes I’m misunderstood, “I need you”.

“In all of this, all 11 years… I have never given up, just like you taught me. The light you left in me still burns, Mum. The world keeps trying to kill your flame. Not gonna lie, it flickers sometimes, but somehow it never went out, not once. Warm, yes, but “I miss you still”.

“Iya Ope, your lastborn is still here; he’s an actor now, a producer as well. I wish I could see the look on your face. I’m sure you’re not shocked anyway. I bless God because you saw, nurtured and encouraged all the creativity I have. I am all I am because of you.

“I will always love you, my sweetheart, continue to watch over me, I know you’re not sleeping, you’ll never leave me by myself. I’m your baby forever, your “Ade Bo Bo!”. God bless your soul.

“In honour of you, I would like to give a helping hand to 10 motherless children like me.

N100,000 can be yours within 48 hours. All you have to do is enter my dm, tell me about your mum, why you need the money and attach your account details as well. Tag anyone that might need this…This economy is hard enough as it stands. Always and forever. Mum.”

Tinubu’s government a disaster – Former Minister of Police Affairs

Alhaji Adamu Maina Waziri, a prominent figure in the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and former Minister of Police Affairs, has delivered a scathing critique of President Bola Tinubu’s administration, labeling it a “complete disaster”.

He opined that it has fallen short even compared to the heavily criticized tenure of former President Muhammadu Buhari.

Speaking in an interview with Trust Television, Waziri voiced serious concerns about Nigeria’s current state of governance, warning that the country is heading into worsening turmoil under Tinubu’s leadership.

“If the Buhari government was a failure, the Tinubu government in the last two years is a disastrous catastrophe,” he said, adding that, “It has failed in all ramifications, and the country has regressed.”

He mentioned escalating insecurity, deepening economic hardship, and a surge in corruption as clear signs of the administration’s shortcomings.

“The economy is collapsing, ethnocentrism is at an all-time high, and insecurity continues to ravage many states,” he added.

Waziri contended that under President Tinubu’s leadership, Nigeria has lost its national direction, becoming increasingly fragile and divided. He also cast doubt on the genuineness of those who still publicly back the administration, especially people from areas plagued by intense violence.

He said …

“I am surprised that people whose local governments are under the control of bandits can appear on national television to endorse this government.”

Calling for a more candid evaluation of the government’s performance, Waziri appealed to Nigerians to see past curated media appearances and staged endorsements. According to him, “a government that has presided over national decline in every sector cannot credibly seek reelection.”

Bodies Found Along Riverbank As Two Teenage Brothers Drown After Heavy Rain In Ondo

A truly horrific tragedy struck on Tuesday evening in Ore, the headquarters of Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State, as two siblings drowned in the community.

The teenage boys were swept away in an attempt to cross the popular Omileye River in the area while on their way home.

According to a resident, who gave her name as Jumoke, the siblings had gone to their father’s shop, who is a motorcycle mechanic, after the summer class but left his shop in the night after the heavy rain subsided.

The distraught father was said to have raised the alarm after returning home when he could not find his children, after which a search party was organised to locate the whereabouts of the children.

The lifeless bodies of the boys were discovered at different locations along the stretch of the river after several hours of search.

Jumoke said, “It was a terrible day. When their father got home and he did not see them after a few minutes, he became worried. When the family and their neighbours began looking for them, others joined.

“After a few hours of the search, their bodies were found trapped between pieces of wood along the riverbank. The river was already overflowing when the children decided to cross it.”

When contacted, the Police spokesperson in the state, Olayinka Alayande, who stated that the incident had not been reported at any police station in the area, assured that a detective would be assigned to commence an investigation into the matter.

Herdsmen Kill Nine Persons Including Police Officer In Fresh Benue Attacks

At least nine people, including a police officer, have reportedly been killed in a series of coordinated attacks by suspected armed herders in Agatu Local Government Area of Benue State.

The deadly assaults, said to have started on Friday and continued through Tuesday, targeted four different communities in the troubled local government area.

Residents identified the affected villages to include Okwutanobe, Okpokpolo, Olegagbani, and Ikpele.

Local sources alleged that the attackers often crossed into Benue from neighbouring Kogi State to carry out raids before retreating.

A resident, who identified himself simply as Odenyi, was quoted as saying, “The attacks started last Friday at Okwutanobe where two people were k!lled.

“On Saturday, they attacked Okpokpolo and k!lled one person. On Monday, the armed herders invaded Olegagbani and k!lled one person.

“Today (Tuesday), they attacked Ikpele, where they k!lled one police officer and four people.”

The Chairman of the Agatu Local Government Area, James Melvin, who also confirmed the k!llings, stated that a total of nine lives were lost across the four communities within the space of three days.

“It’s true. I can confirm to you that four people were k!lled in Okwutanobe, Okpokpolo and Olegagbani, while five people, including a police officer, were k!lled in Ikpele today,” Melvin was quoted as saying.

The council boss said the attacks might be reprisals linked to allegations of cattle rustling made by herders in the area.

“We condemn these attacks, and I think it was a reprisal to their earlier report of cattle rustling in Agatu communities,” he said.

“We are appealing to them to give the government time to investigate the alleged rustling instead of taking the law into their own hands.”

Meanwhile, just two days prior to the fresh wave of violence, the Benue State chapter of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) had raised alarm over the alleged rustling of approximately 340 cattle in Agatu during the month of July.

The association’s secretary, Ibrahim Galma, claimed criminal elements within the local government area were responsible for the theft.

Melvin further lamented that the poor road infrastructure in Agatu hampers swift response by security forces.

“You know the roads in Agatu are bad. Even when the security men receive a distress call, it can take them up to four hours to navigate some areas due to the bad terrain, so the armed herders would wreak havoc and leave,” he explained.

However, the Benue State Police Command has not released an official statement about the attacks.

The Public Relations Officer of the command, SP Catherine Udeme Edet, said she had not yet received official information about the latest k!llings.

Benue State, particularly Agatu and other border LGAs, has endured recurrent attacks by suspected herdsmen over the years.

In June, over 200 people were massacred in Yelwata community in an overnight attack by suspected armed herdsmen.

In April 2024, at least 25 people were k!lled in coordinated raids on Ugbobi and Odugbeho communities in Agatu.

Similarly, earlier in March, another series of attacks across Apa and Otukpo LGAs left dozens dead and hundreds displaced.

The state government has repeatedly called on the federal authorities to intervene, citing the heavy toll the violence has taken on rural communities and food production.

Despite ongoing military operations in parts of the Middle Belt under the Operation Whirl Stroke initiative, residents continue to express concern over the frequency and impunity of the attacks.

As tension mounts in Agatu and neighbouring areas, local leaders and civil society groups have renewed calls for improved security deployment, faster response times, and long-term conflict resolution strategies, particularly around grazing and land use disputes between farmers and herders.

FBI orders seizure of Shatta Wale’s 2019 Lamborghini over criminal links

Ghana’s Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has seized a 2019 Lamborghini Urus from popular dancehall artiste, Shatta Wale, following a request from the FBI and the United States Justice Department.

The luxury vehicle, found at the singer’s Trassaco Valley home in Accra, was linked to criminal proceeds of Nana Kwabena Amuah, a man currently serving a prison sentence in the US for financial crimes.

In a statement released by EOCO’s acting director, Raymond Archer, the agency said the seizure happened in June after a lawful search conducted by its Surveillance and Asset Recovery Unit.

Shatta Wale, whose real name is Charles Nii Armah, reportedly asked EOCO officers not to make the operation public, claiming the car was vital to his brand.

He later agreed to hand over the car voluntarily. EOCO confirmed the operation happened peacefully and without incident.

The agency explained that the vehicle is now in their custody and steps are being taken to return it to the US as part of Amuah’s $4.7 million restitution.

Shatta Wale and a former senior officer of Ghana’s National Signal Bureau are now being treated as persons of interest and are expected to assist with further investigations.

The agency also said a final report may be submitted to the FBI and US Justice Department.

Reacting on Facebook, Shatta Wale criticized EOCO’s use of armed officers during the search, accusing the agency of humiliating him.
