Wout Werghost scores his first goal at Old Trafford

It was quite an emotional moment for Dutch footballer and Manchester United star, Wout Weghorst after he scored his first goal at Old Trafford on Thursday, March 9.

Wout Weghorst struggled to hold back the tears as he ended his Manchester United goal drought against Real Betis in a Europa match on Thursday.

The Dutchman’s 82nd-minute effort made it 4-1 on the night to cap off an impressive comeback from Erik ten Hag’s side who suffered a 7-0 defeat to Liverpool last weekend.

It’s only Weghorst’s second goal for United and it came after his pre-match decision to touch the “This is Anfield” sign angered many Red Devils’ supporters.

Weghorst had claimed he was just attempting to “wind up” international team-mate Virgil van Dijk by stopping the Liverpool defender from getting his fingers on the famous sign.

Gov Adeleke Presents N1.5bn Bond To Osun Retirees

Gov Ademola Adeleke of Osun state presented bond certificates to contributory pensioners in the state, on Thursday, March 9.

Altogether, bond certificates worth N1.528 billion were presented to retired workers from both the state civil service and local government service.

The sum of N350 million was equally released as gratuities to retired staff of primary and secondary schools, tertiary institutions, civil servants and staff of parastatals.

Addressing the beneficiaries, Governor Adeleke apologised on behalf of the state government for the ill-treatment experienced in the past by retirees.

In his words: “Permit me to first apologize, on behalf of Osun State to our pensioners, for the ill-treatment of the past. You had laboured hard to serve the state. It is unfortunate that the past government decided to ignore and deride your significant input and contribution to state development. Accept our apologies.”

He revealed that his focus since taking over as governor in November 2022 was how to resolve all outstanding workers-related debts.

“Workers, in and out of service, deserve their due emoluments. It was in that spirit that I attended to the issue of half salary. We are paying it and we will clear all outstanding based on our people-oriented template.

“Let me make this clear. I am not doing you any favour. I am only fulfilling the task you voted me to do. It is in that spirit that I am extending this attention to the contributory pensioners,” he stated.

While emphasising that his goal in government is the welfare of the people, he pointed out that any government that refused to serve the public good has failed constitutionally and morally.

Seun Kuti, Nigerian musician and youngest son of legendary Afrobeat singer, Fela Anikulapo Kuti has lashed out at former President Olusegun Obasanjo.
According to Kuti, Obasanjo is a wicked man.

Atiku In Closed-Door Meeting With Ibrahim Babangida In Minna

Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in the February 25 elections, has visited former Military President, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (retired).
The former vice president arrived at the Minna International airport around 11 am in the morning of Wednesday.
He was received by the former governor of Niger State, Dr Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu. He then moved straight to the uphill mansion of the elder statesman in Minna.
Channels Television gathered that the meeting between the duo lasted for over one hour.
According to findings, the visit is not unconnected with the just concluded elections in the country and to make official complaints about the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)’s inability to conduct a free, fair, and acceptable election sequel to his rejection and calling for the cancellation of the result.
Also, Atiku Abubakar was in Minna to welcome General Babangida after his return from a foreign medical trip.
Atiku lost to his main rival of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu who polled 8,794,726 votes. He came tops in 12 of Nigeria’s 36 states and secured significant numbers in several other states to claim the highest number of votes.
The 76-year-old, who has now run for president six times, got 6,984,520 votes, while the candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, who, in less than a year, galvanised young voters in a manner some have described as unprecedented finished the race with 6,101,533.
Both Atiku and Obi are not happy with the outcome of the election and have approached the court to challenge the result.

2023: Igbos Do Not Hate Yorubas, This Is A Plot From Politicians – Peter Okoye

Popular Nigerian singer, Peter Okoye of the P-Square has frowned at attacks against Igbos in Lagos state ahead of the governorship election.
According to him, politicians are behind the attacks.
Peter stated this via a tweet on Wednesday following the fire outbreak at Akere Spare Parts Market in Olodi-Apapa, Ajegunle, Lagos.
The arsonists who are yet to be identified set the market dominated by Igbos ablaze, with property worth millions of Naira destroyed over suspected political reasons.
Speaking further, he noted that the two major tribes in Lagos State, the Igbo and the Yoruba, do not hate each other, saying that Nigerians must realize that politicians do not want the best for them no matter what tribe they belong to.
“I am an lgbo man married to a Yoruba woman! Igbos do not hate Yorubas. Neither do Yorubas hate Igbos. Politicians are using tribes as an excuse to cover their evil.

“They don’t like you whether Igbo or Yoruba. They only care about their pockets. Be wiser,” he tweeted.
