UCL: Man City Defeat Inter Milan To Lift Trophy, Win Treble

Football club, Manchester City emerged victorious in the Champions League against Inter Milan on Saturday as a second-half Rodri strike gave them a 1-0 victory, allowing Pep Guardiola’s side to complete a remarkable treble.

Rodri fired in from a Bernardo Silva cutback midway through the second half at the Ataturk Olympic Stadium to decide a game in which City were knocked out of their usual rhythm and lost Kevin De Bruyne to injury.

Erling Haaland, scorer of 52 goals this season, went a fifth straight match without finding the net, but City still had enough to edge out opponents who had never been expected to get this far in the first place.

Having already claimed a fifth Premier League title in six seasons, and added the FA Cup, City are the first English club to win such a treble since Manchester United in 1999.

That same month 24 years ago, City won the English third-tier play-off final on penalties against Gillingham.

Now they have established themselves as England’s dominant side and have finally added the biggest prize in European club football, two years after losing to Chelsea in their first final.

The match was watched by owner Sheikh Mansour, who made a very rare appearance at a City game as his team capped their rise from also-rans to superpower in the years since he bought the club in 2008.

Twelve years after last lifting the trophy with Barcelona, meanwhile, Guardiola joins an elite club of coaches to have won the Champions League three times.

Yet having brushed aside RB Leipzig, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid to reach the final, City did not have it easy against Inter, who saw Federico Dimarco and substitute Romelu Lukaku both almost equalise late on.

Inter had hoped to spring a surprise and lift the trophy for the fourth time. It was not to be, but Simone Inzaghi’s side will be back in the competition again next season.

Victory for Guardiola’s men, to go with the three titles of rivals United, means Manchester becomes just the second city to produce two different winners of the competition, after Milan.

The occasion did not match the drama of the last Champions League final held at the Ataturk Olympic Stadium.

Liverpool triumphed here in 2005, recovering from a three-goal deficit against AC Milan to draw 3-3 before winning on penalties.

However, it also passed off without serious incident, a year after chaos overshadowed the final at the Stade de France in Paris, even if the stadium’s location some 25 kilometres west of central Istanbul did not make access simple for supporters.

People Want To Associate With Me Or Give Me Deals Because Of My Looks – Ashmusy

Popular Nigerian skit maker and influencer, Amarachi Amosi aka Ashmusy has disclosed that she gets lots of deals because she is good-looking.

She stated that her looks has favoured her because people want to associate with her because of it.

She said this while speaking on Punch Saturday Beats.

“Good looks favouring someone is a general thing. It is not just about the entertainment industry. Good looks have favoured me. Some people want to associate with me or give me deals, because I am pretty,” she said.

The influencer and brand ambassador also spoke on what had motivated her to gift two cars to her two most loyal staff.

Ashmusy said:

“First, one of the cars was for my real estate staff, and it is a company car. The second car was for a member of staff of my beauty company.

What motivated me to buy the car for her (staff of beauty company) was because she had been with me since I started the business about six years ago. She has been loyal and active. She deserves even more than that. It was a pleasure giving her that car.”

She also spoke on how being popular has impacted her life and gave instances of moments she wished she wasn’t a popular figure;

”For instance, when I go out and I just want to have fun and do whatever I like, the fact that I am popular restricts me. I can’t really be myself in certain places. I have to look a certain kind of way and talk in a certain way.

When I want to start a relationship, it is usually scary for me because I feel the guy may have a problem with me being popular. I am usually anxious that I might lose the man, when he gets to know I have many followers. That actually scares off some men.”

She was also prompted to speak on whether she gets pressured to get married by her family, others or self;

“Marriage pressure is a thing generally, and I am experiencing little from my family. My family members know how successful I am and how much I still want to achieve. They know I am doing great and they do not pressure me on marriage anymore.

“I pressure myself too sometimes though. It’s not because I cannot wait to be with a man forever. Rather, it is because I desire to have my own home and children,” she said.

Why Census 2023 Was Postponed

The National Population Commission on Friday, why the 2023 Population and Housing Census was postponed.

The Commission explained that contrary to insinuations that it was rescheduled due to insufficient funds, the NPC postponed the census exercise to save Nigeria from a national crisis.

The  Federal Commissioner in Plateau State, Mrs Cecilia Dapoet made this disclosure on Friday during a meeting with stakeholders  in Jos, the state capital.

The Commissioner said, “The Census exercise was earlier scheduled for May 3-7, 2023, but was postponed, giving rise to many insinuations in the public space regarding the reason for the postponement and these even though are mere speculations had been given much media attention.

“The Commission is compelled to take necessary steps to correct the impression that the 2023 Population and Housing Census is postponed because of lack of funds.

“The real reason is not money, but government’s transition programme and post-election mood in the country. We all saw the cloud of uncertainty that hung above the nation after the elections and were careful not to fall into some pitfalls and plunge the country into more trouble. We cannot take things for granted, and decided to postpone the exercise,” she informed.

The Commissioner  expressed optimism that the postponement of the national census would afford the new administration, led by President Bola Tinubu to prepare adequately for the exercise.

Dapoet who however assured that the NPC would conduct  the first digital census in Nigeria whenever a new date is fixed added, “Presently, we have purchased the handheld devices to be used to capture data and are safely stored at the Central Bank in Jos. This also means the software is ready in hand.

“Presently, we are also getting our new leaders acquainted with the methodology and processes adopted for the current Census exercise.

“We are using the opportunity offered by this postponement to re-assess our Census Work-plan and to inject any input that would add value to the strategies for implementing the methodology for optimal success.

“We need to reassure you that the coming Census will not be like the previous exercises which were marred by incidences of undercounting, multiple counting and inaccurate enumeration leading to Lack of trust in the census data and making it  difficult to use for planning and development purposes.

“We have also put some measures in the process to curtail incidences of political interferences with the census process,” she remarked.

Meanwhile, the Plateau State Director of the NPC, Mrs Felicia Mwolpun, urged the citizens to cooperate and support the Commission to enable it achieve it’s goals.
