Traditional Rulers Now Conniving With Illegal Miners – EFCC

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has made a damning accusation against some traditional rulers.
EFCC accused them of conniving with illegal miners.

According to the anti-graft agency, monarchs are carrying out the act despite the negative impacts on their communities and the country generally.

The EFCC Chairman, Ola Olukoyede, disclosed this on Tuesday in Abuja at the two-day first International Anti-Corruption and Climate Change Conference organised by the Human and Environmental Development Agenda (HEDA Resource Centre) in collaboration with Hawkmoth and supported by the MacArthur Foundation.
According to him, “When we are talking about environmental degradation, what is going on now with the illegal mining, in another five years it is going to be much, worse than the degradation that oil and gas exploration has caused.

“So let us begin to have that at the back of our mind. It (illegal mining) is a major problem that we are grappling with. You need to see the pictures of some of the environmental damage that illegal mining is causing; not even from foreigners alone, but particularly by our own indigenous people, in their environment. In some cases, supported by some traditional rulers.”

He also said that the severe environmental damage in the Niger Delta, including oil spills and pollution, was largely driven by corruption, not just natural causes.
He said, “The Niger Delta today is riddled with cases of oil spills, pollution and damage to the ecosystem. This cannot be blamed on natural occurrences alone. Corruption is at the root of climatic disruptions.”

It’s God’s Favour — Eguaveon Denies Lobbying For Super Eagles Coaching Role

Austin Eguavoen, the caretaker coach of the Super Eagles, has refuted claims that he lobbied for the interim coaching role.

In a recent statement released through the official Super Eagles communication channels, Eguavoen emphasized that his appointment was not a result of any personal efforts or influence but rather the manifestation of divine favor.

“I am a member of the Federation, working as the Technical Director Nigerian Football Federation,”
he said.

“When a situation like this comes and you are being called upon, you can’t say no. It’s a task that I had performed; it is a duty that falls under my responsibility.

“For the fact that the hierarchy of the Federation now feels and thinks that I can salvage the situation, why not? But one thing should be clear to the public: I didn’t ask for this; I didn’t lobby for this, I didn’t apply for this; it is God’s favour.”

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) confirmed the appointment of Augustine Eguavoen as the interim head coach of the Super Eagles for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Benin Republic and Rwanda.

The decision came after negotiations with German coach Bruno Labbadia broke down.

Eguavoen, 59, who has served as the national team’s technical director since 2020, will temporarily take charge during this international break.

The Super Eagles legend is no stranger to the role, having previously coached the national team in three different stints, the most recent being in 2021 when he led the team at the AFCON following the sudden dismissal of former coach Gernot Rohr.

Afrobeats Is Escapism – Tems Counters Buju Banton

Temilade Openiyi, the world-famous Grammy-winning Nigerian singer,  who is popularly known as Tems, has explained afrobeats as a genre specifically for escapism.

According to her, the purpose of the genre in Nigeria is to serve as an escape from the harsh reality and not necessarily to preach against societal ills.

The ‘Love Me Jeje’ crooner stated this while reacting to Jamaican reggae legend Buju Banton’s criticism of afrobeats in a recent episode of the ‘Shopping The Sneakers’ podcast.

Banton claimed that Afrobeats had no substance and would fade with time.

“I understand where Buju Banton is coming from. Reggae is not afrobeats and afrobeats in Nigeria is specifically for escapism; that’s the purpose of afrobeats,”
she said.

But in the real sense, body odor is not always bad.
It is a term that describes natural smells that emanate from humans.

However, changes in body odor may develop when influenced by puberty, genetic makeup, diet, poor hygiene, and some other factors.

Most people wonder if body odor is a normal occurrence. Yes, it is normal, given that everyone is bound to have body odor whether good or bad, especially an adolescent who has reached the puberty stage.

Having a bad or unwanted body odor is a common occurrence and can be a result of various factors.

This article is set to help you discover the causes of body odor, types, and, preventative or control measures to get rid of body odor.

PARTS OF THE BODY THAT PRODUCES ODOR

Body odor emanates from certain parts of the body. Those parts include;

  • The Mouth (Producing foul-smelling breath)
  • The armpits
  • The Virgina or Groin
  • The feet
  • The Anus
  • The Belly button

CAUSES OF BODY ODOR

As we grow older i.e during puberty, menopause, etc. we tend to sweat more often than usual due to the hormones behind sweat secretion or perspiration. Your sweat might produce a good odor or have no smell at all.

Sweat is odorless and only starts to smell bad when it comes in contact with bacteria in your body.

Below are some of the causes of body odor;

1. Hormonal changes

Constant changes in hormones can cause your body odor to smell. And these changes could be due to pregnancy, night sweats, your menstrual cycle, and hormonal fluctuations during menopause.

2. Poor hygiene

Poor hygiene is another factor that begets changes in body odor.
Practices like keeping excessive armpit hair, putting on dirty clothes, skipping baths, skipping teeth brushing, and wearing moist or damp undies give room for bacteria to feed on perspiration.
This in turn develops into a pungent body odor, mostly a smell like rotten eggs.

3. Infections and diseases

Bad body odor happens to be a characteristic symptom of some infections and diseases.

The virgina for example, produces a pungent smell when affected by bacterial infections such as yeast infections and vaginosis.
Also, infections such as the Urinary tract infections will cause the urine to release an unpleasant smell.

Skin infections like erythrasma, candidiasis, intertrigo, and other bacterial infections may have negative effects on normal body odor.

Also, diseases or medical conditions like diabetes, kidney or liver disease, cancer, gouty arthritis, and tuberculosis which cause foul-smelling breath, and some others can bring about changes in one’s normal body odor.

4. Drugs

Certain drugs used for the control of some particular medical conditions or infection can influence changes in body odor, causing excessive sweating.
So also, drugs like anti-depressants, codeine, tramadol, and other drugs that trigger hot flashes are known to induce unpleasant body odor.

5. Diet

The food we consume can influence a change in our body odor whether good or bad.
Some foods are known for their smell. People who love onions, for instance, will experience a strong smell on their breath or urine.
Consumption of garlic, locust beans, curry, and cummin in foods can also result in foul-smelling breath.

Some of the other foods that causes foul-smelling breath;

  • Cabbage
  • Asparagus
  • Radish
  • Broccoli
  • High consumption of red meat
  • Alcohol, tobbaco, and caffeine are also known to trigger changes in normal body odor.

6. Hot temperature

Another causal factor of bad odor is hot temperature. People live in some parts of Nigeria, for instance, the northern part experiences heat causing them to sweat excessively which might result in a bad body odor.

Other common factors that trigger unpleasant body odor includes;

  • Stress
  • Obessity
