Nigerian international superstar, Victor Osimhen’s move from Napoli to Chelsea could be off due to his huge wage demands.
According to The Sun, Osimhen is asking the Blues for £500,000-a-week to sign for them this week.
The Nigerian striker is also not keen to move on loan.
This has led to Chelsea exploring other striker options with less than one week left in the summer market.
They are looking at Federico Chiesa, who has been exiled at Juventus, and Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who has one year left on his current deal at Everton.
Osimhen is also attracting interest from Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain.
Mauro Moliso, the Napoli director, has admitted that the club made a mistake by not selling Victor Osimhen last summer.
Osimhen was in big demand last summer following his impressive displays for the Partenopei in the 2022/23 season.
The 25-year-old scored 26 goals in 32 league appearances to help Napoli win the Scudetto.
The Nigeria international also rebuffed interest from Saudi club, Al Ahli.
Osimhen, however, signed a new contract last December with a release clause of €130m.
The huge release has scared off interested suitors, which the striker’s future is now uncertain.
Moliso said the Serie A club were wrong not to have sold Osimhen last summer.
“We made some mistakes in Osimhen’s management. I arrived in Naples in mid-July and I knew that there had been a very high offer from one of the biggest teams in Europe. In hindsight, we are all good, but perhaps we could have sold him,” he told Sportitalia via Corriere dello Sport.
Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) are intensifying negotiations to sign Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen, with the player reportedly agreeing to the move.
While a deal with Napoli is not yet finalized, talks are progressing, according to Fabrizio Romano.
“Paris Saint-Germain are planning to advance for both João Neves and Victor Osimhen from next week.
“Benfica understand João’s desire to join PSG, talks are advancing between the clubs to get it done.
French football powerhouse, Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly very desperate to win the race to sign Victor Osimhen from Napoli this summer transfer window.
That is by offering three of their players in a potential exchange deal for the Nigerian international.
According to Sky Italy, PSG has offered the likes of Carlos Soler, Nordi Mukiele and Kang-In Lee in a straight swap for Osimhen.
The report added that the deal has implications for Romelu Lukaku’s Chelsea future as discussions are ongoing around a deal that may involve at least one of the PSG players moving to Napoli.
Lukaku, who spent last season on loan at Roma, is wanted by new Napoli manager Antonio Conte in case Osimhen leaves the Serie A club this summer.
Super Eagles striker, Victor Osimhen has taken to his Instagram page to write about the side effects of success.
In a post shared Victor Osimhen, the reigning CAF African footballer of the year, stated that when one is successful, they should expect to have people that are jealous and bitter about their success.
He wrote; ”Your blessing comes with side effects. Expect a case of jealous, bitter, gossiping people. But keep your joy regardless.”
The Napoli forward also shared photos of himself with his daughter, Haly outside a private jet.
Nigeria’s sports minister, John Enoh, has addressed Napoli striker Victor Osimhen’s recent social media criticism of former Super Eagles coach Finidi George for the first time.
Earlier this month, it was alleged that Finidi George questioned Osimhen’s commitment to the squad after he had missed the 2026 World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and the Benin Republic.
Finidi was alleged to have faulted the commitment of some players before picking out Osimhen for making himself unavailable.
He was quoted to have said he can’t beg Osimhen to play for the national team after the player withdrew from their last two 2026 World Cup qualifiers due to injury.
Reacting to the comments attributed to Finidi, Osimhen claimed he reached out to Finidi about his injury, and had wanted to fly down to be with the players in camp which the former coach declined.
He said, “I knew things like these would happen and that’s why I have the videos and screenshots of when I called Finidi while I was with the doctor in Germany.
“I got injured in our (Napoli’s) last game against Lecce and I went to the MRI scan. And I called Finidi there for him to listen to the doctor too.
“I asked Finidi George to allow me stay with the players in the camp, but Finidi asked me not to bother that I should stay with my family.
“I’m not addressing anything, everybody knows I play my heart out whenever I’m playing for the club or national team. I’ll share the screenshot and videos of my conversation with Finidi for the sake of those believing what Finidi said.
“I’ve lost respect for that man because before I disrespect anybody, I always respect them.
Since the outburst, Osimhen has refused to apologise even after it was denied that Finidi didn’t make such comments about him
Speaking with Eagle7 FM Radio, The Sports Minister addressed the outburst for the time, saying he’s ordered the NFF not to make a pronouncement on the matter until they have heard from Osimhen.
“There has been a plethora of opinions on this,”he said. “Osimhen is a Trojan for Nigeria, but it was a low.
“I told the NFF not to make a pronouncement on this before they have engaged Osimhen. This is so especially because these are not the best of times for Nigeria football and we have to manage a lot of things.
“The NFF have to be focused and not be distracted.”
Nigerian striker, Victor Osimhen, has taken a swipe at Finidi George, who has resigned as the head coach of Nigeria.
It is claimed that Finidi accused Osimhen of pulling out of games for the national team with minor injuries.
Osimhen, who netted 15 goals for Napoli in Serie A this season, claims he suffered an ankle injury against Lecce on May 25.
And although he was planning to travel to the Super Eagles camp ahead of their two 2026 World Cup qualifiers, he was told not to by Finidi.
In an Instagram Live video, Osimhen said he would not accept disrespect and opened up on why he was not taking part in the World Cup Qualifiers.
He said;
: “I won’t let anyone believe anything about me.
“I don’t just address anything, everybody knows when I play for Nigeria I play my heart out, I just let everything go.
“But I won’t take disrespect from anybody
“I’ll share the screenshot and videos of my conversation with Finidi for the sake of those believing what Finidi said.
“I’ve lost respect for that man because before I disrespect anybody, I always respect them.”
