World-famous Nigerian footballer, Victor Osimhen has made a promise to Nigerians.
He promised that the Super Eagles “will do everything” to win back the love of Nigerians.
The striker made the pledge ahead of the upcoming African Cup of Nations (AFCON) double-header qualifying games against Guinea-Bissau.
Osimhen spoke in a chat with the media team of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) on Wednesday.
The Eagles missed out on the 2022 World Cup to Ghana, and the team failed to fully bounce back from the disappointment.
The Jose Peseiro-led team lost five of the seven games since losing the World Cup ticket. The last defeat was a 4-0 rout against Portugal in November 2022.
Osimhen said the players have learned from past mistakes and are now “in high spirits” to do better and qualify for the next AFCON competition.
He added that the Eagles “are ready to give our hearts” against Guinea-Bissau and ensure Nigeria gets the victory.
“We are looking forward to it, and I’m happy to be back with the squad. We expect amazing results from the two-legged games against Guinea-Bissau. We are ready, and the spirit is high,” Osimhen said.
“And we are ready to give our hearts on Friday and also in the second leg. We will give everything to make sure the fans are entertained and that we get the win and qualify for the next AFCON.
“I want to say [to Nigerians] thank you very much for your support. Thank you very much for sticking with me and the Super Eagles. And for your support throughout the years. I know we might have let you down in the past, and I want to say we will do everything in our power to make sure we win your love back.”
Nigeria will play Guinea Bissau at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja, on Friday before proceeding for the second leg of the tie at the Estadio 24 de Setembro in Bissau three days later.
The Eagles are leaders of Group A of the qualification round with six points from victories over Sierra Leone and Sao Tome and Principe.

Victor Osimhen became the most prolific Nigerian scorer in the history of the Italian championship with his 32nd Serie A goal on Saturday for Napoli.

The Nigerian international made history during Napoli’s 2-1 victory over Atalanta in Bergamo. He joined the club from Lille just over two years ago for an African transfer record fee.
After Osimhen handled the ball in the box in the 19th minute, his compatriot Ademola Lookman gave the hosts the lead from the spot, but he turned the tables four minutes later by heading in the equalizer with a goal that rose higher than La Dea’s defense line.
In the 35th minute, Eljif Elmas took a touch and scored from 10 yards as Napoli fought back to win the top-of-the-table match and go eight points clear. Osimhen had just outrun Merih Demiral down the right, and he had pulled the ball back for Elmas.
Osimhen and Simy Nwankwo, a fellow countryman, were level for the lead in goals (31) going into the match against Atalanta.
However, the 23-year-old has already surpassed the former Crotone hero with his goal from last Saturday.
Obafemi Martins, a former striker for Inter Milan, scored 28 goals, while Stephen Makinwa and Victor Nsofor each scored 16 and 14 goals for Atalanta and Chievo Verona, respectively.
Didier Drogba, a veteran of Chelsea, has commented on Victor Osimhen, a forward for Napoli, and his sense of teamwork.

The Super Eagles attacker was seen in a video deciding to award his teammate a penalty that he had earned on his own during the game against Ajax. Drogba praised Osimhen for his selflessness, saying that the Nigerian’s deed was also an example of teamwork.
Osimhen has been in outstanding form ever since moving from Lille to the Serie A team. He has scored a total of two goals this season, which is both the most in Serie A.
