Rolling Loud

History.

Rolling Loud is a hip hop music festival that takes place in the United States, Europe, Australia, and Canada. Complex calls it “one of the biggest rap-only festivals in the world,” while Billboard calls it “the be-all of hip-hop festivals.”

An estimated 210,000 people attended the event in Miami in 2019.

Matt Zingler and Tariq Cherif, who met in elementary school in Hollywood, Florida, founded the festival in 2015. When they were in high school, they began organizing and promoting parties that “leaned heavily on a mix of Southern and Midwestern rap.” In 2010, they transitioned to professional live music events, beginning with an after-party headlined by Rick Ross. By the summer of 2013, they were hosting monthly events in Miami with emerging artists such as Travis Scott and Kendrick Lamar. Before recognizing the need for a genre-specific music festival, the pair promoted artists from Florida’s burgeoning SoundCloud rap scene under the brand name Dope Entertainment.

The first Rolling Loud took place in February 2015 in Miami, Florida, and featured artists such as Schoolboy Q, Juicy J, Currensy, and Action Bronson. It was held at Soho Studios in the city’s Wynwood district, though the venue was temporarily flooded due to rain.

Rolling Loud 2016 was held at the larger Mana Wynwood convention center and featured headlining acts Ty Dolla $ign, Young Thug, and Future.

Rolling Loud relocated to Bayfront Park in Downtown Miami in 2017.

It has been held at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens since 2018. The festival also expanded to other cities in 2017, with the inaugural editions of Rolling Loud Bay Area and Rolling loud Southern California.

Rolling Loud Australia in Sydney, Australia, and Rolling Loud NYC were added to the list of host cities in 2019. The same year, they announced Rolling Loud’s first European festival would be held in Portugal in July 2020.

However, due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic in the United States, the 2020 festival, which was originally scheduled to take place from May 8 to May 10, has been rescheduled for July 23 to July 25, 2021.

Due to similar circumstances, the European edition in Portugal had to be rescheduled for 2021.

Rolling Loud hosted a post-pandemic festival in Miami in 2021, with over 200,000 attendees. The festival collaborated with WWE and included a Friday Night Smackdown.

Rolling Loud continued to expand into new countries in 2022. Rolling Loud’s first collaboration with a European festival was announced in 2021 as a collaboration with the 2022 edition of Woo-Hah!, which will take place from July 1-3, 2022.

Rolling Loud Portugal took place on July 6-8, 2022, after being postponed in 2020 and 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Rolling Loud Toronto is set to take place in Canada on September 9-11, 2022. From March 3-5, 2023, the festival will hold its first California edition at Inglewood’s SoFi Stadium.

Ajayi invites Obasanjo, Ooni, and Oluomo to church for thanksgiving.

Former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo was not only a guest but also a preacher at the Love of Christ Generation Church (Cherubim and Seraphim), Oniru, Lagos, on Sunday, September 4, 2022.

The thanksgiving service, which drew many dignitaries, commemorated the church’s first anniversary as well as Reverend Esther Ajayi’s 15 years in ministry.

Obasanjo cited the Biblical experience of Joseph in prison, who interpreted the dreams of the Pharaoh and some of his top aides, in his sermon titled ‘Given Testimony.’ Obasanjo also told the story of Aaron and Moses, who went to deliver God’s message to King Pharaoh, who turned a deaf ear to the warnings.

The former president also emphasized that there were people who did not know God, such as Pharaoh.

Other dignitaries at the event include the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi; the Chairman of the Parks Management Committee of Lagos State, Musiliu Akinsanya, aka MC Oluomo, among others.

One of the highlights of the event was when Obasanjo and Oluomo paid obeisance to the Ooni at different times in the church.

Oluomo could also be seen prostrating himself before the former president, before both men hugged each other.

Burna Boy: “I came into the music industry straight from a UK prison.”

Damini Ogulu, aka Burna Boy, a Nigerian music star, has revealed some details about his life before becoming a household name.

In a series of tweets on Wednesday, the singer stated that he believed he had a limited life span.

Chelmsford prison

He also spoke about his time in prison while living in the United Kingdom.

Unbeknownst to many, the artist spent time in HM Prison Chelmsford before becoming a musician.

Burna Boy, surprisingly, alluded to his prison experience in the song ‘Glory’ from his 2022 album, ‘Love, Damini.’

Burna Boy sings about getting into fights and getting injured in prison in the song, which features the South African male choral group Ladysmith Black Mambazo.

The lyrics went, “I remember when they shipped me from the cans To Chelmsford HMP and my celly had it bad.So I had to have his back, niggas started fightin’. Then they cut me on my hand. So I grabbed one from the back, and I flung him off the landing. You know the screws get extra ruthless when you’re Black.

‘‘Layin’ on my back, now the block’s feelin’ mad. Now I’m in a lab trying to do my best.”

Experience in a prison

The ‘Last Last’ crooner admitted in the tweet that becoming Nigeria’s biggest artiste is not his immediate goal.

He expressed gratitude for the opportunity to do what he enjoys most while caring for his people.

“Nigeria has never heard of me. I don’t care if I’m the most famous Nigerian artist; I’m just glad I can do what I love and provide for my people.

If you knew half of the things I used to do for money, risking my freedom on a daily basis, you’d be much happier for me.

I came straight from Chelmsford HMP into the music industry. I never imagined I’d live this long.

“Now it’s all just funny when people talk about me. “Of course, I’d perform with my injured leg, or even without legs or arms,” he wrote.

Idris Elba, happy 50th birthday!

As the ‘Mandela’ star celebrates his 50th birthday today, here are the ten best moments of Idris Elba’s career.

He began his career as a murderer on BBC’s ‘Crimewatch’ before landing his breakthrough role in ‘Luther.’ The Golden Globe Award winner has had a glittering career spanning over a decade. From being awarded an OBE to being named People’s Sexiest Man Alive… As the ‘Mandela’ star celebrates his 50th birthday today, here are the ten best moments of Idris Elba’s career.

The start of Crimewatch.

Elba’s first role was as a murderer in a reconstruction scene on BBC’s ‘Crimewatch.’ Despite the fact that many actors refused to admit they appeared on the show, Idris was proud of his first on-screen role in the 1990s and expressed gratitude for the opportunity. “It sounds strange, but getting a job on ‘Crimewatch’ was the first rung on the ladder at the time,” he explained. Many actors are embarrassed to admit they worked on ‘Crimewatch,’ but I’m not.”

Ascending the wire to success.

After taking the first step up the acting ladder, it was all uphill for Elba, who continued to land numerous jobs. In 1994, he appeared in the BBC drama ‘The Boot Street Band,’ before moving on to a more significant role in the 1995 medical drama ‘Bramwell.’ Elba also appeared in Jennifer Saunders’ popular sitcom ‘Absolutely Fabulous’ that year, which was his first named role. But it was his role as dealer Stringer Bell in the HBO crime drama ‘The Wire’ that changed his life. The show aired from 2002 to 2008, and he was a major player throughout.

DCI John Luther arrives with awards.

Idris played DCI John Luther in the BBC series ‘Luther’ in 2010. He received three Golden Globe nominations for his portrayal of the gritty detective, and he won in 2012. His performances earned him the SAG Award for Outstanding Actor in a Miniseries or Movie in 2016.

A film star.

Elba made the transition from television to film as the lead in ‘Daddy’s Little Girls’ in 2007. Later that year, he starred in the holiday film ‘This Christmas,’ which grossed nearly $50 million at the box office. Idris Elba established himself as a major movie star after starring alongside Beyonce in the 2009 thriller ‘Obsessed.’ The film was a box office success, grossing $29 million in its first weekend.

Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom.

Elba’s career high point was portraying late anti-apartheid activist and historic South African President Nelson Mandela in the biographical drama ‘Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom.’ Idris spent a night alone in a prison cell on Robben Island, where Mandela was imprisoned, to prepare for the role. Elba’s performance earned him a nomination for Best Actor in a Motion Picture Drama at the Golden Globes. “That brings a lump to my throat,” Idris said after playing Mandela. “I devoted that role to my father.” With his big white hair and infectious smile, he reminded me of Mandela.”

OBE HONOUR.

Elba was named to Queen Elizabeth’s 2016 New Year’s Honours List in 2015 and received an OBE from Prince William for his contributions to drama. The ‘Beasts of No Nation’ actor took to Twitter to express how proud his mother Eve was of him. “I made my mother very happy today!! “Flying the East End flag at Buckingham Palace today!!! “OBE Day….. How does the boy look?” he said. Feeling good, Proppa…:)”

Sexiest man alive.

People named the ‘Luther’ star the Sexiest Man Alive in 2018, which he described as a “nice surprise” and a “ego boost for sure.” Idris Elba has joined a long list of Hollywood’s hottest stars, including Chris Hemsworth, Dwayne Johnson, Brad Pitt, Johnny Depp, and John Legend. “I was like, ‘Come on, no way,” Idris said. ‘Are you sure?’ I checked myself out in the mirror. ‘Yeah, you’re kind of sexy today,’ I said. But, to be honest, it was just a pleasant sensation. It was a pleasant surprise, and it certainly boosted my ego.”

Beginnings in music.

Prior to his acting career, Idris Elba worked in nightclubs as DJ Big Driis when he was 19 years old. Elba returned to his musical roots in 2002, appearing in music videos for Fat Joe, Angie Stone, and rapper Giggs. In 2006, he recorded the four-song EP Big Man for Hevlar Records, and in 2007, he co-produced and performed the intro to Jay-album Z’s ‘American Gangster.’ Elba’s debut single, ‘Please Be True,’ was released two years later. Elba launched his own record label, 7Wallace Music, in 2018 and performed at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in April 2019.

Philanthropy

In 2014, the actor with Sierra Leonean ancestry joined the fight against Ebola, calling it a “human catastrophe” after the virus ravaged the country where his parents were married. “With new government commitments last week, the media’s attention was on Ebola, but the cameras will soon shift,” he said. Not until this disease is eradicated. Delivery on the ground must be expedited, and every country must contribute.” Elba also addressed the UK parliament in 2016 about his concern about the lack of diversity on the screen in terms of race, gender, and sexuality. “Change is coming, but it’s taking its sweet time,” he said.

Kick-boxing Star.

In 2017, Discovery Channel aired a documentary titled ‘Idris Elba: Fighter,’ which chronicled Elba’s 12-month kickboxing and mixed martial arts training after he defeated Dutch professional Lionel Graves in his first match.
