“What God cannot do does not exist”- Mum shares how son survived after swallowing car key

A mum has sparked emotional reactions online after sharing a terrifying experience involving her 4-year-old son, who reportedly swallowed a car key and was rushed to the hospital.

The story, which was shared on X by Tope Orus, detailed how what began as a normal morning quickly turned into a life-threatening situation.

Child Swallows Car Key at Home

According to the woman, her son had been playing around the house while holding his father’s car keys.

She said she briefly turned away to check food on the stove, only to return and discover that one of the keys was missing.

Moments later, the child began struggling to breathe, prompting her to run outside for help before being rushed to the hospital by a neighbor.

Doctors Recommend Emergency Surgery

At the hospital, an X-ray reportedly confirmed that the key was lodged deep in the child’s throat.

Doctors reportedly warned that removing it manually could cause serious damage due to its sharp edges and advised immediate surgery.

However, the woman said she was overwhelmed by fear and financial concerns, as her  family was already dealing with debt and could not easily afford the procedure.

Desperate Plea Before Surgery

She explained that, in a moment of desperation, she prayed and then rushed back to stop the doctors from taking her son into surgery.

She pleaded with them to try one last non-surgical method to remove the object.

Unexpected Turn of Events

According to her account, during the final attempt using a suction tool, the child suddenly coughed violently, and the key came out unexpectedly, shocking everyone in the room.

She described the moment as miraculous, saying even the medical team was surprised by the outcome.

In her words: “This morning, my 4 year old son Daniel was just here, very healthy & playing with my husband’s car keys.

My husband had stepped out for a meeting out of town. We were alone at home. I only turned my back for one second to check the food on the stove. Suddenly, I heard a ‘gulp.’ I looked at the table, the big SUV key was gone. Daniel was clutching his chest, unable to breathe.

I ran out without shoes, screaming for help. My neighbor rushed us to the hospital. The doctors took an X-ray & gave me a report that broke my heart. The key was stuck deep.

The doctor said, ‘Madam, the key has sharp edges. If we pull it, it will tear his throat. We must do surgery right now. Please, you quickly have to go pay the money.’ I felt like my world was ending.

We are still in debt from my father’s funeral. My husband’s business has been slow these days. Where are we going to get the surgery money?

I ran to the hospital chapel, fell on my knees, and cried to God. I told Him, ‘You gave me this child to keep, not to lose!’

I ran back and blocked the doctors as they were wheeling my son to the operating room. I begged the doctor, ‘Please, try to use the suction tool one last time!’ The doctor was angry and told me I was wasting time, but I kept begging until he agreed.

As the doctor put the tool in his throat, Daniel let out a loud, violent cough. CLINK! The heavy car key flew out of his mouth and hit the metal tray!

The room went quiet. The nurse shouted, ‘Blood of Jesus!’ The doctor was shocked. He picked up the key, handed it to me, and said: ‘Woman, go home. Your God did what science cannot explain.’

I am back home now, holding my baby. God turned my crying into dancing!

Please, help me thank this good God. It’s not like I’m even so much of a believer. I hardly pray, I hardly go to church on Sundays, but He still came through for me when I called. Family, I am crying as I write this. What God cannot do truly does not exist! Thank you, Father.”

Naira to Dollar rate today Monday, April 6, 2026

The Nigerian Naira opened the week on a steady note, holding firm against the United States Dollar at about ₦1,377.80 in early trading on Monday, April 6, 2026.

The stable start reflects continued confidence in recent reforms and tight monetary measures introduced by the Central Bank of Nigeria.

Data from the official market showed only slight movements compared to last week’s closing rate of ₦1,380.79, suggesting the Naira remains relatively resilient despite global Dollar strength.

Official Market Shows Stability

At the Nigerian Foreign Exchange Market, trading activity remained calm, with the local currency hovering close to the ₦1,380 range.

Analysts say improved transparency from the Electronic Foreign Exchange Matching System has played a key role in keeping rates stable.

The system has strengthened price discovery and boosted investor confidence, helping the market avoid sharp swings often seen in previous months.

Parallel Market Holds Firm

In the informal segment, the Naira also showed little change. Currency traders across major commercial centres quoted the Dollar between ₦1,405 and ₦1,415.

Although the gap between official and parallel market rates stands at around ₦32, it remains significantly narrower than past levels.

Experts attribute this to better coordination between regulators and Bureau De Change operators, which has reduced speculative pressure.

Key Factors Driving the Market

Several economic forces continue to shape the direction of the Naira:

Nigeria’s external reserves remain under close watch. After dipping due to recent debt payments, reserves are projected to rise from about $49.29 billion to over $51 billion, supported by oil earnings and foreign inflows.

The Monetary Policy Committee has retained interest rates at 26.5%, a move aimed at curbing inflation and attracting foreign investors into Naira assets.

In addition, reforms in the remittance space have increased foreign currency inflows, as more diaspora funds are now routed through official banking channels.

Outlook for the Week

Market watchers expect the Naira to trade within the ₦1,370 to ₦1,390 band in the official window in the near term.

Attention will remain on foreign inflows, reserve growth, and global oil prices, particularly Bonny Light crude, which continues to trade at favourable levels.

Investors are also anticipating possible policy signals from the Central Bank that could further stabilise the market and reduce the gap between exchange rate segments.

Alleged betrayal over jointly owned property

The actress made the revelation in an emotional video shared on her social media page, where she was seen in tears recounting the incident.

She claimed that despite contributing financially to the purchase, the man listed only his name on the receipt, excluding hers entirely.

Emotional outburst sparks reactions
