I ran away from Nigeria and never wanted to come back – Chidinma spills

Nigerian gospel singer Chidinma Ekile has revealed that she left Nigeria and hoped to secure permanent residency abroad before transitioning from secular music to gospel music.

Speaking at a recent Eezee Conceptz event, the singer said she travelled overseas because she did not want to return to Nigeria, but her plans to obtain permanent residency were unsuccessful.

Chidinma disclosed that while she was abroad, the Chief Executive Officer of Eezee Conceptz was the only person who consistently called her from Nigeria. She said this influenced her decision to work with him when she eventually returned.

“I travelled. I ran away from Nigeria. I was processing my papers not to come back to Nigeria, but for some reason, it didn’t work.

“While I was abroad, the CEO of Eezee Conceptz was the only one who was calling me from Nigeria. He kept encouraging me, and I found the strength to come back to Nigeria. When I came back, I asked him to give me a gospel music contract because I want to spend time with God. And he gave me a contract that even my lawyer said seemed like a charity,” Chidinma said.

The singer also explained that her transition into gospel music was not initially driven by a desire to pursue the genre professionally, but by her personal desire to build a deeper relationship with God.

She said her decision to leave secular music was rooted in her spiritual journey rather than a deliberate plan to become a gospel artiste.
