The incident occurred in February 2023, when Brown struck Diaw on the head with a tequila bottle. Prosecutors said the producer sustained head and knee injuries and required hospital treatment.
Court considers circumstances of the attack
Judge Tony Baumgartner described the use of a glass bottle against someone’s head as dangerous, warning that the assault could have resulted in more serious injuries.
However, the court suspended Brown’s eight month sentence for 12 months. The decision means he will not serve the prison term immediately, provided he complies with the sentence’s conditions.
Brown had faced the possibility of a longer prison term before pleading guilty to affray in July 2026. Prosecutors dropped other charges, including assault and attempting to cause grievous bodily harm, following his plea.
His friend and vocal coach, Omololu Akinlolu, who also admitted affray over the incident, received a four month suspended sentence.
Fans welcome singer outside London court
Brown’s sentencing drew attention both inside and outside the courthouse, where supporters gathered to see the singer leave.
Some fans cheered him, while another person challenged him over the violence as he arrived for the hearing.
His lawyer, Sallie Bennett-Jenkins, said Brown had apologised to people who witnessed the incident, describing it as an episode that caused distress.
The case adds to Brown’s history of legal troubles, including his 2009 conviction for assaulting his then girlfriend, singer Rihanna.
