Nollywood Actress, Mimi Orjiekwe Reacts To Police Arrest, N700m Fraud Allegation

Nollywood actress, Mimi Orjiekwe has reacted to reports that she was arrested over a 700 million naira fraud allegation by UK-Dion’s Mr Michael Diongoli.
Recall that it was also reported that she was thrown into the custody of the Nigerian Police over Michael Diongoli’s allegations.
However, her legal team has revealed that both the purported arrest and 700 million naira claim were untrue.
According to a tweet by Mimi’s lawyer, Barr Chino Obiagwu SAN on Wednesday July 26, Mimi only visited the Special Fraud Unit of the Ikoyi police station at the invitation of the police based on allegations made by Mr. Michael Diongoli, who bought furniture from her Interior decoration company, FBM Homes in 2021.
Despite S 8(2) of Admin criminal justice act 2015, @policeng continues to arrest & Detain suspects on matters boarding on civil transactions.  Lately, my client, actress and interior designer @MimiOrjiekweng was invited by SFU on a contract dispute. @policeng impunity must end now.” Obiagwu wrote
In a statement released by Barr. Obiagwu, he explained that Diongoli, who has allegedly refused to pay an outstanding of 89 million naira for storage and clearance charges, allegedly resorted to using the police to intimidate his client so that he will collect the goods without paying.
Read Obiagwu’s statement below:
‘’Mr. Diongoli claimed that Mimi refused to supply the furniture he paid for and that he was defrauded. He also falsely claimed that the contract was for 700 million naira when actually it was for 472 million naira.

‘’At the police station, Mimi was said to have explained that the civil transaction between her and Mr. Diongoli was purely contractual and outside the criminal jurisdiction of the police.

‘’Meanwhile, FBM Homes couldn’t complete the installation of the furniture at Diongoli’s because her workers were asked to leave the site, following the confiscation of the building by EFCC and Interpol.

‘’All the furniture procured for Diongoli’s house are stored in a secured warehouse, which Mr Diongoli, on his release from custody, refused to pay the outstanding balance of 89 million including storage and clearance charges.

‘’Mr. Michael Diongoli’s tactics of using the police to harass and intimidate Ms. Orjiekwe to collect the remaining furniture without paying the outstanding balance has been challenged in a suit filed by her lawyer at the Federal High Court Lagos for the enforcement of her fundamental rights. Also, the unlawful posts made on blogs about the so-called arrests as a result of the false allegations by Mr. Diongoli were part of the court claims, in which a compensation of N200m has been claimed on her behalf.

‘’Mimi has since returned to her normal life and business, as the law is clear under the Police Act 2020 and the Administration of Criminal Justice Act 2015 that no criminal charge can arise from a matter that borders on civil  transactions.” Obiagwu said

BBNaija All Stars: I Hate Intimidation – Queen Defends Ilebaye After Kiddwaya Called Her A Red Meat In The Midst Of Lions

Queen Mercy Atang, a Big Brother Reality TV star, has shown supprt for Ilebaye, another BBNaija star.

Queen drummed support for Ilebaye who she says is facing intimidation in the Big Brother Naija All-Stars house.

Recall that a new season of the show began last Sunday, featuring housemates from previous seasons competing for the N120 million grand prize.

Ilebaye, a contestant from the 2022 “level-up” season, is also among the returning housemates alongside her colleagues, Doyin and Adekunle.

During the nomination session on Monday, July 24, Kiddwaya nominated Ilebaye and referred to her as a ‘low-hanging fruit’ and a ‘red meat in the midst of lions.’ He insinuated that she should leave the show early so the stronger contenders can compete.

In a seeming reaction to his statement, Queen, a former housemate from the ‘Shine Ya Eye’ season, expressed her disappointment in the housemates for belittling Ilebaye.

She strongly condemned any form of intimidation in the house, and emphasized that nobody is superior to Ilebaye, as they are all competing for the same coveted grand prize.

The mother of one shared a photo of Ilebaye with the caption: “I hate intimidation in every form. Not fair the way some HMS are treating her.

Girl stand up for yourself in there. No one in there is bigger than you. If they come for you, go for them … everyone in there, went there for same reason you’re there….”

Liverpool’s Henderson Completes Move To Saudi Club Al-Ettifaq

Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson has signed for Saudi Pro League side Al-Ettifaq.
The announcement was made by both clubs announced on Thursday.
The England midfielder is the latest big-name player to move from the Premier League to Saudi Arabia after 12 years at Anfield.

“We can confirm @JHenderson has completed a transfer to Al-Ettifaq,” Liverpool said on their social media channels.
Al-Ettifaq posted: “A leader. A warrior. We’re simply thrilled to have him.”
The 33-year-old has finalised a deal with reported wages of up to £700,000-a-week.
Liverpool are due to receive an initial £12 million ($15.5 million) from the Saudi club.
“As his Anfield chapter now comes to a close, everyone at the club wishes to place on record their thanks and gratitude for everything Jordan did for us during his 12 years as a Red,”Liverpool said in a statement.
Henderson said his goodbyes to the club’s fans on Wednesday.
“It’s hard to put these last 12 years into words and it’s even harder to say goodbye,” he said in an Instagram post. “I will always be a Red. Until the day I die.

“Thank you for everything. You’ll never walk alone.”
Henderson led the Reds to their first English league title for 30 years in 2020, a year after lifting the Champions League.
The England international will be reunited with former Liverpool team-mate Steven Gerrard, who is Al-Ettifaq manager.
Henderson joined Liverpool from Sunderland in 2011 and succeeded Gerrard as skipper at Anfield in 2015.
France striker Karim Benzema quit Real Madrid to join Al-Ittihad, following his former Real team-mate Cristiano Ronaldo, who plays for Al-Nassr.
Other Premier League players who have moved to Saudi Arabia include Chelsea’s N’Golo Kante and Liverpool forward Roberto Firmino.
Henderson’s move has attracted criticism due to his long-time support of LGBT+ issues.
Saudi Arabia’s lavish spending on sport is often criticised as “sportswashing” — an attempt to shift the focus from its record on human rights.
The conservative monarchy executed 81 people in a single day last year, outlaws homosexuality and triggered international condemnation when journalist Jamal Khashoggi was murdered in the Saudi consulate in Istanbul in 2018.

Fuel Subsidy: Nigerians Lost Peace of Mind On May 29 – NLC Laments

The Nigeria Labour Congress has lamented the hardship in the country.
Speaking on Wednesday, NLC said Nigerians lost their peace of mind following the “Subsidy is gone” comment made by President Bola Tinubu during his May 29, 2023, inauguration.
The labour congress in a statement jointly signed by the national president, Joe Ajaero and Secretary-General, Emmanuel Ugboaja, in Abuja, faulted the Tinubu administration over its“unfriendly” policies while adding that the administration had continued to treat Nigerians as slaves.
The NLC, however, noted that it would mobilise a nationwide strike on August 2,2023 should the government fail to meet all its demands namely the immediate reversal of all “anti-poor policies such as the hike in price of Premium Motor Spirit; increase in public schools’ fees; increase in Value Added Tax among others”.
The statement partly reads, “The Central Working Committee of the NLC observed that the Federal Government has shown enormous disdain and contempt for Nigerian people and workers having acted and continued to act without regard to the welfare and cries of the citizenry.
That Government seems to have declared a war of attrition on Nigerian workers and masses without any care leaving them to the throes of hopelessness and helplessness; the Federal Government has refused to put in place safeguards to protect Nigerians from the harsh economic situation that its policies have inflicted on the people rather it has decided to insult the sensibilities of Nigerian masses by offering us N8,000 per family and offering themselves N70bn.

“That the Federal Government has frustrated and abandoned its own committee which was a product of social dialogue between the government and workers’ organisations in the country. While the committee has not met, the government embarked on unilateral actions and programmes.

“That since Mr. President’s “subsidy is gone forever” speech at the inauguration day; the peace of mind of Nigerians has gone; decent living gone increasing despair of unimaginable dimensions. That the federal government has continued to treat Nigerians as slaves and conquered people which it treats with impunity without any concern on the consequences.

“That the Federal Government has continued in an unholy mission of robbing the poor to pay the rich in Nigeria as typified by its continued frustration of the activation of the agreed alternatives to Premium Motor Spirit and new hike in prices of PMS to N617 per litre.”

Speaking further, the NLC noted that the Federal Government has continued to promote the“gang-up of the ruling elite against the Nigerian people and workers; churn out without relenting policies designed to emasculate Nigerian workers and people via not just increases in PMS prices with its spiralling effect but also increases in VAT, increases in school fees across all publicly-owned secondary and tertiary institutions of learning.”

On its next steps, the NLC noted that it had received pressure from Nigerians who have been calling on it to lead a national strike.
The congress also noted that it had reached a breaking point hence it would, “give the Federal Government a seven-day ultimatum within which to meet all our demands and to embark on a nationwide action beginning Wednesday the 2nd of August, 2023 to compel the government to reverse its anti-poor and anti-workers policies.”
