Nigeria’s Younger Generation Will Never Get Power Unless It’s Positively Disruptive – Obasanjo

Former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo has encouraged the younger generation to run for office to retire the older generation in power.

According to him, leadership is very important both in the private sector and the  military, adding that the younger generation will never get power if they do not get it now.

The youth should run for elections in Nigeria and must not say they are too young to run at 55, Obasanjo said.

“If you can’t run, what time do you have to run? You have to be positively disruptive but not through violence. If they call you leaders of tomorrow, don’t accept it.

If you don’t get it now, you will never get it. How do you need to make those to make uncomfortable uncomfortable? That’s the solution”, he said on Thursday, November 30 while featuring as a guest speaker during an inter-generational dialogue and emerging political leaders fellowship, an initiative of The Bridge Leadership Foundation convened by a former Governor of Cross River State, Senator Liyel Imoke.

Obasanjo faulted critics who described Nigeria as a geographical expression.

He said, “Every country has history of how they come about. So, tell me which country isn’t a geographical expression. No other alternative to Nigeria, it’s our country.

“My generation: I won’t say it’s a perfect generation, but we fought for the unity of Nigeria…Say whatever you like, we, including, the military which people say caused ‘katakata’, fought for the unity of Nigeria, we also laid the foundation for democracy in Nigeria. Generations after us, what will they claim? Between the generations, there’s gap, space, and values to be bridged. That is why our gathering like this is important.

“Many people don’t believe in Nigeria and if you don’t believe in Nigeria, why would you talk about something you don’t believe in? You have to believe in Nigeria before we can talk about Nigeria. Some people still say that Nigeria is a geographical expression. Every country has history of how they come about. So, tell me which country isn’t a geographical expression. No other alternative to Nigeria, it’s our country.”

“Until I entered secondary school, I never saw telephone. The telephone never worked until I got to form 3. I never wore a pair of shoes until until secondary school. I grew up to be watching black and white television, and it was one station. When remote control became a means in TV, I never knew. But my children said I was old school”, he said.

Nigerians Should Be Scared Of Leaders Without Fear Of God – Obasanjo

Ex-President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo has said that a leader without the fear of God is dangerous.

Speaking at an event on Thursday in Abuja, the former president said it is important for a leader to have a close relationship with God.

Obasanjo added that a good leader must have certain characteristics such as knowledge, diligence, integrity and moral values.

He also urged Nigerian youths to believe in Nigeria and develop love for the country, saying there was no alternative to their country.

While advising Nigerian youths on leadership qualities, Obasanjo said, “Knowledge is very important, accurate knowledge. You also need the fear of God and proximity to God. When you are a leader and you do not fear God, then you are a dangerous leader.

“Wherever you may choose, leadership is very important and the principles are basically the same. A good leader must have certain characteristics, knowledge is good, but not enough. How diligent are you? What is your level of integrity? What are the values that you cherish?”

The former President said the way forward for Nigeria was for the nation not to lose.

He said: “Let us get it right and in two years we will forget everything. You have to get involved in everything.

“You are the leaders of today, if you don’t take it now, you will never get it. You have to be positively disruptive, don’t accept things the way they are. You need to make those who need to be made uncomfortable, uncomfortable.”

Obasanjo also called for a national discourse on Nigeria’s democracy, saying that the context and the content of the nation’s democracy should be addressed.

He said: “What is Nigeria’s history in democracy? What is Nigeria’s value? What is our culture in democracy? Let us rethink the context and the content of our democracy. Let’s interrogate, let’s ask questions. If you don’t do it, who else will do it?”

“Many people don’t believe in Nigeria. Don’t let us deceive ourselves. If you don’t believe in Nigeria, what do you want to talk about? You need to believe in Nigeria. Every country has a history of how they came about. We have to accept that Nigeria is ours; we love it, and we cherish it. We have no alternative.”

ICPC, Police Clear D’banj of N-Power Fraud, R3pe

Nigerian singer, Dapo Oyebanjo aka D’banji, has been exonerated from allegations of r3pe and N-power fraud.
Punch reported that he was cleared by the Nigeria Police Force and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission.

In separate documents obtained by Punch on Friday, the police and the anti-graft agency gave the artiste a clean slate in separate clearance reports upon completion of investigations.
In an affidavit deposed by Toheeb Lawal of Abuja-based law firm, Law Corridor, before the District Court of Abuja, wherein the reports of the Nigeria Police Force Investigation and clearance from the ICPC were marked exhibits A and B, the legal practitioner averred that the police and the ICPC cleared the singer of r3pe and fraud allegations.
The PUNCH reports that in 2020, the singer was accused of r3pe, and the Inspector General of Police ordered an investigation into the allegation.
In a report dated November 14, 2023, with case number CR:3000/X/FHQ/ABJ/SEB/T.1/VOL 18/284 and signed by ACP YY Abubakar of the Special Enquiry Bureau at the Force Criminal Investigations Department at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, the police said the matter was investigated but there was no evidence to substantiate the claim.
“The allegation was investigated,” the police report read in part.
It added, “The complainant, witnesses, and suspects made their statement. The investigation was extended to the Glee Hotel Lagos, where the staff on duty on the date of the alleged incident made their statement.

“The management and staff of the Glee Hotel averred that the first suspect was not seen in the hotel on the date of the alleged incident, nor was he given a spare key to gain access to any room in the hotel where the complainant lodged, and they have only one key to each room, which completely debunked the allegation of the complainant.

“The management of the hotel also held that it had no record to show that the complainant checked into the hotel as a guest on the alleged date, and she did not, at any time, raise an alarm, complain, or report any indecent assault or r3pe.

“There is no medical report on the victim to ascertain that she was r3ped. There are no adduced facts or corroborative evidence to substantiate the allegation of r3pe against the suspect. Prima facie offences of indecent assault, r3pe, and intimidation are not made out.

“However, the complainant, through her counsel, Ojoge, Omileye & Partners, submitted a later, dated July 17, 2020, to the DIG Force CID, to voluntarily withdraw the petition and discontinue the investigation.”
Also,  in 2022, the ICPC accused D’banj of diverting funds associated with the N-Power Programme of the Federal Government.
However, after its investigation, the ICPC said that D’banj was not guilty of any fraud allegation.
In response to an inquiry, the commission cleared D’banj of any infraction on the matter.
The clarification was dated November 29, 2023, with document number ICPC/OPS/SDD/SPT.LG/31/23.
“The commission investigated issues of fraud in the administration of the N-POWER Scheme, where Mr Daniel Oladapo Oyebanjo’s name came up. However, there was no prima facie case of fraud against him.

“Kindly be advised that Mr Daniel Oladapo Oyebanjo is not under investigation with the Commission for any fraud-related offence,” the ICPC clearance partly read.
D’banj’s lawyer, in his deposition filed before the Chief District Court of the Federal Capital Territory at Wuse Zone 2, Abuja, also averred that the singer was never a government official and never had any access to government funds and that the N-power campaign he supported was free and was never paid a penny by anyone or the government.

His management had announced in a statement released via his Instagram page on November 15, 2023, that the rapper died on Tuesday, November 14, 2023.

However, some of his associates, including rapper Qdot revealed on social media that Oladips was very much alive.

Oladips also came forward with video evidence to prove that he was alive and well, which fuelled rumours that he faked his death to promote his new project.

Reacting to the rumours via his Instagram story recently, the rapper blamed Qdot for the allegations that he faked his death, saying he rushed to announce on social media that he was alive “at a time my family was unsure of my situation.”

He lamented that Qdot made it look as if they had a conversation when they had not spoken this year.

We No Longer Have Sit-at-Home in Enugu And South-East – Governor Mbah Says After Visiting Tinubu (Photo)

Governor Peter Mbah has told President Bola Tinubu that there is no more sit-at-home order declared by the proscribed members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) in the South-East region of the country.
Mbah said this after visiting President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, the nation’s capital. He also commended the financial reforms implemented by President Bola Tinubu’s administration resulting in the easy flow of capital in and out of the country, saying it is rubbing off on the state.
The Enugu state Governor said;

“We no longer have a sit-at-home in Enugu State, and I dare say in the South-East. We have workers go to work on Monday and the schools are open on Monday. Business and economic activities are back. So, what we are dealing with now is to erase that sad memory from our history.

“It is essentially to commend the president because a lot of things that he is doing at the national level are also rubbing off well on us at the state level – policies like the unification of the foreign exchange rate. What that simply means is that you are going to have a lot of FDI coming in, and we are also going to benefit from that.

“As you may have also noticed, we are doing a lot, trying to attract investors to Enugu State. And the fact that we now have the ease of investors bringing in their money and also being able to repatriate it as a result of the unification of the foreign exchange rates would largely rub off positively on Enugu State.”
