A Shame Of A Nation – How Nigerians Reacted After National Grid Collapsed

Nigerians have criticised the Federal Government over what they described as the embarrassing and frequent collapse of the national power grid.

Earlier, 626BLAZE reported that Nigeria’s national electricity grid suffered a total collapse on Friday, plunging parts of the country into blackout in the first such incident recorded in 2026.

According to the figures from the Nigerian Independent System Operator, NISO, power generation fell to zero megawatts, while electricity supply to all 11 distribution companies dropped completely by about 1 p.m.

NISO disclosed that the affected distribution firms include Benin, Eko, Enugu, Ikeja, Jos, Kaduna, Kano, Port Harcourt, Ibadan, Abuja and Yola, all of which recorded zero load allocation at the time of the collapse.

A cross-section of Nigerians, who spoke to Daily Post on the development, said the regular collapse of the national grid is a national embarrassment.

Paul Igbashangev said it was quite disheartening that Nigeria had continued to experience this very often.

He said: “It’s quite unfortunate that our country at this level is always talking of national grid collapsing. The frequent grid collapse is a concern, and we are hoping the authorities will find a lasting solution soon. It is affecting businesses and households alike.”

Another Nigerian, Iwuchukwu Ike, said nothing is working under this administration, lamenting that since coming on board of the administration, it has been from one drama to another.

“The national grid has collapsed again? It’s quite painful that this thing is collapsing on every eke market day.

“I could remember how Peter Obi went to Egypt to see how they’re getting it right. APC supporters mocked him. Now see us see Disco,” he said.

On his part, Ngozi Ikechukwu, said it is too much to bear the current economic hardship.

“See what these people who promised us heaven on earth are doing to us. How can we be battling with national grid collapse when the year has just started?” She queried.

Also speaking, Mustapha Audu said that the Federal Government should adopt the Compress Natural Gas, CNG, to put an end to the constant collapse of the national grid.

“I think what the Federal Government should do is to get a CNG electricity conversion solution to this national grid collapse. A country of 200 million people having a nationwide blackout without a natural disaster like a hurricane? A shame of a nation,” he said.

According to another respondent, Adamu Yusuf, some people are playing politics with the national grid for their selfish purposes.

He said: “There is nothing serious about the frequent collapse of the national grid. Some group of persons are just playing politics with it to make money

“National grid is something that is supposed to take years before collapsing, but it has become business as usual and nobody is asking them.”

On his part, Adah Joseph said the regular collapse of the national grid affects the national economy, causing a decline in the country’s Gross Domestic Product, GDP.

“It’s rather unfortunate that the devastating effects of the constant collapse of the national grid has continued.

“This also affects individual businesses of different kinds, especially food related businesses that need constant power supply for the use of refrigerators.

“And as it also affects Nigerians in different aspects, including health facilities.

“It is high time, therefore, that the government included our power sector amongst topmost  priorities to end this embarrassment,” he posited.

In the same vein, Augustine Oyiwona urged the government to invest massively in new transmission lines and substations, stressing that most of them are more than 40 to 50 years

He said: “Manual systems should be replaced with a modern real time grid monitoring system. Transmission Company of Nigeria,TCN, should be run like a technical utility and not a ministry desk.

“As passed by the National Assembly and signed into law, the state governments should legally be made to generate, transmit and distribute power.”

According to another respondent, Paul Igbadi, “To me, it is like total negligence on the side of our government.”

Court Orders Doris Ogala, VeryDarkMan To Stop Talking Or Releasing Videos And Pictures Of Pastor Chris Okafor

The Lagos State High Court in Ikeja has directed Nollywood actress Doris Ogala, social media influencer Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VDM, and Kelvin Chimaobi Emmanuel to refrain from sharing videos or images of Pastor Chris Okafor, founder of Grace Nation International (also known as Liberation City), on social media or any other media platforms.

Justice Akintunde Savage, who gave the ruling on Thursday, also restrained Doris and VDM from mentioning or referring to Pastor Chris or his ministry, whether orally or in writing, on any platform, pending the determination of a substantive suit filed by the cleric.

The Judge further restrained the defendants from releasing to the public or to third parties any materials allegedly intended to blackmail or extort money from the claimant, pending the final determination of the suit.

Okafor is the claimant in the suit marked ID/14399GCMW/2026, while Doris Ogala, VDM, and Kelvin Emmanuel are listed as the first, second, and third defendants, respectively.

The ex parte application was brought pursuant to Order 43, Rules 1, 2, and 7 of the High Court of Lagos State (Civil Procedure) Rules 2019, as well as under the court’s inherent jurisdiction.

In his ruling on the application filed by Okafor through his counsel, Ife Ajayi, Justice Savage also barred the defendants and their agents from publishing, releasing, or circulating any alleged private materials relating to the claimant, including chats, conversations, text messages, pictures, images, or videos.

Justice Savage also granted an order for substituted service of the claimant’s originating processes, including the writ of summons, list of witnesses, statements on oath, and other documents, through publication in a national newspaper.

The matter was thereafter adjourned to February 2, 2026, for hearing.

My Online Feud With VeryDarkMan Was Staged For Publicity – Tech Entrepreneur, Blord Claims (Video)

Linus Williams, the Nigerian tech entrepreneur and social media personality, who is popularly known as Blord, has claimed that his recent online exchanges with activist and influencer Martins Otse, widely known as VeryDarkMan, were deliberately staged.

Blord said the controversies and heated back-and-forth between both men were part of a coordinated plan to promote the Ratel app and build online engagement.

According to him, the posts, arguments and public tension were not spontaneous but pre-arranged, adding that both sides agreed to work together to create buzz and drive attention to their respective platforms.

Blord also stated that the recently announced “Blunt Gadget Rally” was part of the same plan, insisting that the online drama was designed for publicity rather than personal conflict.

The revelation follows weeks of intense social media exchanges between Blord and VeryDarkMan, which had drawn heavy reactions from users, with many interpreting the feud as a genuine fallout.

Blord’s post has since triggered fresh debate online, with some users expressing disappointment at being “played,” while others described the move as a calculated publicity strategy in today’s attention-driven digital space.

Neither VeryDarkMan nor representatives of the Ratel platform have issued a separate statement in response as of the time of filing this report.

I Love Walking Away – Nigerian Singer, Adekunle Gold Reveals Why He Avoids Trouble (Video)

Nigerian singer Adekunle Kosoko, widely known as Adekunle Gold, has spoken about his decision to steer clear of controversy and embrace a calm, drama-free lifestyle.

In a video shared on social media on Thursday by an X user, the Orente singer said he does not like conflict and prefers to focus on living peacefully.

He explained that he does everything possible to avoid being close to problems because he only wants a quiet and steady life.

The singer said he understands his own nature very well and knows that he can easily say things he may later regret when situations become tense.

For this reason, he often removes himself from arguments before they grow into bigger issues.

Adekunle Gold added that choosing to walk away from trouble does not mean he is weak or unable to defend himself when needed.

The father of two said he simply values peace of mind more than engaging in fights or drama.

Adekunle also wondered why some people enjoy conflict and do not seek calm and rest in their lives.

According to him, walking away is sometimes the best choice for personal peace and growth.

He said: “Some of us, we just don’t like trouble. In fact, I don’t want to be near it, I just want to live.

“Me, I know myself. My mouth is not good at all. Anybody that knows me, my mouth is not good. So, I don’t even want to say anything out of regret, so I’d rather just step away.

“What is your mind like? Why do you not like peace? Why do you not like peace of mind? Why don’t you just walk away?”

You Started Your Music Career Without Originality – VeryDarkMan Blasts Wizkid For Insulting Fela Kuti (Video)

VeryDarkMan, the social media influencer and activist, who is also known as VDM, has accused Afrobeat star Wizkid of showing disrespect to music legend Fela Kuti.

In a viral video released on Thursday, VDM stated that Nigeria is the only county that do not recognize music legends, stating that while other countries honors great artists, Nigerians disregard theirs as “past glory”.

He further went ahead to say that some Nigerian music pioneers and veterans who voice out their concerns on national and industry issues are either insulted or ignored.

His comments came amid the ongoing clash between Seun Kuti and Wizkid.

Calling names like Eldee the Don, African China, Plantation Boiz, Psquare, Remedies, Tony Tetuila, Jazzman Olofin, 9ice, Vector, Sasha P, Asa, Weird MC, 2Face Idibia and Blackface, he said, “People you are supposed to idolise and respect are called ‘past glory’ in this country.”

The social media influencer and activist further criticized Wizkid’s comments, saying they caused his fabs to insult Fela.

He claimed that although disagreements are normal, Wizkid should have handled the situation better.

He address the ongoing comparisons between Wizkid and Fela Kuti, especially arguments centred on the Grammy Award.

He dismissed claims that Wizkid’s Grammy win places him above the late Afrobeat icon.

VeryDarkMan argued that the award was largely influenced by Beyoncé, not Wizkid’s solo artistry. According to VDM, because of this, Wizkid’s Grammy award is not a ‘real Grammy’.

Recall that Wizkid had won a Grammy in 2021 for Best Music Video as a featured artiste on Beyoncé’s Brown Skin Girl, alongside Blue Ivy.

VDM pointed out that international music superstar, Beyoncé, has repeatedly celebrated the late Afrobeat pioneer Fela Kuti, recalling how she once performed Zombie as a tribute and praised Fela in several interviews.

According to him, Zombie was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2025, while Fela Kuti is also expected to receive a posthumous Lifetime Achievement Award.

In contrast, VeryDarkMan singled out Burna Boy and Tems as Nigerian artistes whose Grammy wins were based purely on individual musical contributions.

He referenced Burna Boy’s Best Global Music Album win for Twice As Tall, as well as Tems’ multiple Grammy awards, arguing that their recognitions were a direct reflection of artistic merit.

The activist also came to Fela Kuti’s defence over criticisms of his personal life, particularly his multiple marriages.

He questioned why historical figures such as King Solomon are widely revered despite similar controversies, while Fela continues to face harsh judgment.

VeryDarkMan insisted that Wizkid, musically and artistically, has not surpassed Fela Kuti or other members of the Kuti dynasty, including Femi Kuti, Seun Kuti and Made Kuti.

According to him, the Kuti family’s enduring influence on African music and global cultural discourse remains unmatched by many contemporary stars.
