2023: APC Plotting To Attack INEC Facilities, Hack BVAS — PDP

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has been accused of plotting to attack some equipment of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) ahead of the elections.
The allegation was made by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
According to PDP National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba in a statement issued on Monday in Abuja, some members of the ruling party have allegedly mobilized thugs to launch fresh attacks on INEC offices and its facilities.
It also claimed that the APC has orchestrated the plan to hack the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) to frustrate INEC’s ability to conduct the elections.
The PDP, therefore, asked security agencies to protect the facilities and equipment of the electoral body and ensure that the forthcoming polls are free, fair, and credible.
The statement reads: “Ahead of Saturday’s Presidential and National Assembly elections, the PDP charges security agencies to beef up security around the offices and facilities of INEC from any attacks by the sinking APC.
The PDP’s position is coming against the background of apprehensions in the public space of alleged plots by certain APC interests to launch a coordinated attack on INEC offices and facilities in various parts of the country to destroy the Commission’s BVAS machines to cripple INEC’s ability to conduct the elections.
“Credible information available to our Party indicates that the said APC interests which are bent on scuttling the elections to avoid a humiliating defeat are allegedly mobilizing thugs to launch fresh attacks on INEC offices and its facilities where BVAS machines are located.
“Some prominent APC leaders including certain APC governors, having failed in their designs to have the elections postponed and having also been resisted in their plot to use their orchestrated cash scarcity to destabilize the nation, are now allegedly plotting to cripple INEC’s ability to conduct the elections by destroying the BVAS machines.
“These APC leaders and their apologists have evidently revealed themselves as a clear and present threat not only to the electoral process but also to our corporate existence as a nation and must be resisted by all.
“The PDP, therefore, charges the security agencies to take all necessary steps to provide adequate protection for INEC facilities, equipment, and personnel before, during, and after the elections.”
The PDP asked President Muhammadu Buhari to put all measures in place for free, fair, transparent, and credible elections in keeping with his assurances to Nigerians and the international community.
It added that Tinubu must realize that Nigerians will never be deterred from their resolve to vote for its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, to rebuild the nation.
“The APC and the Tinubu/Shettima Campaign must accept the fact that Nigerians will never be deterred from their resolve to vote in the Presidential Candidate of the PDP, Atiku Abubakar, to rebuild our nation from the disastrous misrule of the APC,” the PDP added.

New Naira: Ganduje Condemns PDP, NNPP’s Support For CBN

Abdullahi Ganduje, the Governor of Kano State has condemned the support of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party and the New Nigeria Peoples Party for the Central Bank of Nigeria’s naira redesign policy, The PUNCH reports.

A statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Abba Anwar, said the governor made the remark on Monday while launching the distribution of palliatives to ease the hardships caused by the scarcity of naira notes, which was held at the Open Theatre, Government House.

“To our surprise, opposition parties took the situation to court supporting and protecting the CBN in this ill-timed and anti-people policy. That was not done in the most appropriate way and time. Governors of Bayelsa and Edo are all PDP states and are in the forefront in this blunder.

“So also the NNPP came out and said what the governor of Kano State said in rejecting the CBN’s naira swap was wrong, according to them.

“I wonder what is wrong in speaking the truth that all Nigerians are seriously suffering because of this anti-human and ill-advised phenomenon,” Ganduje asked.

He added, “What the PDP and the NNPP want is for people to continue wallowing in poverty. We will not stop blaming the CBN for this economic blunder. We love our people. Therefore, anything that will disturb their wellbeing must be rejected, till proper channel and good time are put forth.”

Ganduje then disclosed that the APC presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, had promised Nigerians that he would end the current hardships caused by the CBN, if elected.

On the palliatives distribution, the governor said the state government was distributing the items in order to cushion the effects of the hardships caused to deliberately disturb the wellbeing of Nigerians.

“We didn’t invite this situation, neither did we pray for it. And therefore, we don’t welcome it at all. We gave similar palliatives during the COVID-19 days.

“And today our citizens are being faced with COVID-23 caused by the CBN. We earlier thought it was a simple disease, but unfortunately, it turned out to be a very serious virus going viral,” he lamented.

He further stated that, “…the virus coming from the CBN has affected all our commercial banks, our POS, our ATMs […] and all other things associated with this. Being the most populous state in the country, we are most affected by this unfortunate development.”

The governor said beneficiaries of the palliatives would come from all the 44 local government areas of the state.

“Today’s event is just to launch the distribution. It will continue from today, as we continue providing free buses for our people, just to cushion the effects of the CBN’s virus, COVID-23,” he added.

Governor Wike Finally Opens Up After Being Accused Of Secretly Planning to Join APC

Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers state has finally reacted to claims that he’s secretly planning to join the All Progressives Congress.
Reacting, Wike denied the allegation.
Speaking at the 114th Quarterly General Meeting of the Rivers State Council of Traditional Rulers in Port Harcourt on Monday, February 20, Wike said he remains an unrepentant member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) despite being impressed by APC’s support for power shift to the south.
He said;
“I am not a member of APC and will not be. But, they have made me to recognise that they are the heroes of this country. APC governors came out to say for the unity of this country, presidency should go to the south.

“They said they want the unity of this country and therefore, the presidency should go to the south. They could have as well said no, it doesn’t matter. As governors we have the number. We can still say it should remain where it should remain. But they didn’t do that.

“They said the way we are seeing this country we want everybody to be together. Let no one say because I have the population, therefore, you will continue to dominate. In dominating you need peace, without peace you cannot govern.

“We are all Nigerians and we want unity of this country, want Nigeria to move forward as a united country. Rivers has always been in support of one Nigeria and we’ll continue to support one Nigeria. But in doing that, we believe in equity, justice and fairness. As governor of this State, I will vote for the unity of this country. I will vote for anything that will unite Nigeria.

“I will not support anything that will divide Nigeria. And that is what necessitated the principle of live and let’s live. If only one person continues to live, things will not be good. It’s not about party, it is about Nigeria. I am a member of PDP, unrepentant who in fact built this party when people ran away.”

I’m Ready To Sacrifice My Senatorial Ambition For Peter Obi To Win – Ortom

The Governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom has vowed that he’s ready to sacrifice his senatorial ambition to see that the presidential candidate of Labour Party, Peter Obi wins Saturday’s presidential election.
Channels Television made the revelation on Monday during an interview.
Ortom, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), is contesting the election in the Benue North-West senatorial district.
His January endorsement of Obi came after months of refusal to support the PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, whose emergence in May 2022 was viewed by several high-ranking party members as unfair.
The Benue governor reiterated his support for the former Anambra State governor while addressing members of the Igbo community in the state on Monday.
“For me, it’s not even that I’m contesting an election. Yes, the form was bought for me by the people of Benue State. I’ve gone round; they have accepted that they will vote [for] me,” he said.
“But if I’m to sacrifice my senatorial ambition for Peter Obi to win, so shall it be,” he said to loud cheers from the crowd.
He added, “I know that if [any group of] people are connected in this world, they are the Igbo. This is the opportunity you have to say that an Igbo man from the South-East is president.”

Ortom identified with those who believed in the unity of Nigeria and working together, saying it was for this reason that he accommodates everybody.
“So, let us not miss this opportunity that God himself is providing. The youth have told me, my own people have told me – stakeholders here, traditional rulers, party people across party lines. Obi’s matter is not about APC or PDP or SDP or any other party. It’s about Nigeria.”
Speaking to the crowd, he told them that they have the population, adding that they should thank God for “what is unfolding”.

He described Obi as a species that is not bound by ethnicity.
“That is why when I hear some prominent Igbo personalities castigating Peter Obi for contesting the election – is it not you people that have been saying you have been marginalised since after the war?

“The opportunity has come today and you’re still complaining. What do you want?! What are you looking for?

“The whole country – North, South, East, and West – are saying Peter Obi, and you hear some people say, ‘We don’t want it.’ Haba! Those people should be outcasts.”
