I Won’t Be Distracted – FCT Minister, Wike Reacts To Protests Calling For His Resignation

FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike has reacted to the protests at the National Assembly by Abuja residents and civil society groups, calling for his immediate resignation.

The Minister in his reaction on Thursday said he is not distracted because not everybody will agree with the policies of the government but actions must be taken in the interest of the people.

Recall that on Wednesday, there was a protest at the National Assembly complex, demanding the resignation of Wike.

The protesters criticized Wike’s leadership, labelling it as incompetent and lacking vision for the development of the Federal Capital Territory.

Adamu Kabir Matazu, speaking on behalf of the protesters and representing the Network of Civil Societies for Economic Sustainability, urged for an investigation into Wike’s land allocation policies in the FCT.

However, in response, the former Rivers State Governor stated that he remains unbothered by the actions of those who protested against him because he knows they were simply paid to do so.

The Minister said he won’t be distracted by such things as he remains focused on delivering the mandate of President Bola Tinubu to the people of the FCT.

Speaking during the flag-off of remedial work on Asokoro, Wuse roads, Wike said: “Somebody told me that some people were carrying placards.

Franky speaking, I don’t even have time to see all that. I don’t want to be distracted. I want to be focused to deliver on the mandate given to us by Mr President.”

Wike’s Administration Lists Kidnapping Hotspots In Abuja

The Wike-led Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has listed kidnapping hotspots in the nation’s capital.

The Director of Administration and Finance, FCTA Security Services Department, Ebele Molokwu, named Bwari, Kuje, and Abaji as hotspots for abduction.

Molokwu made this known during the end-of-the-year media briefing on the department’s activities.

According to the Director, major kidnapping incidents in the territory were usually from those councils, even though there are some isolated cases in the other area councils.

She stated that the closeness of the councils to states notorious for kidnapping enables the bandits to escape quickly when they strike in Abuja.

Molokwu said the Administration was determined to check both kidnapping and one-chance syndicates in the territory.

On his part, the Director of the Department, Adamu Gwary, said the security committee had been divided into two: the kinetic, which is made up of core security agencies, and the non-kinetic, which involves the traditional rulers and other relevant stakeholders.

He said in the restructured security committee, the FCTA now involves traditional rulers in a non-kinetic approach, where the district heads meet regularly with the village heads and convey the decision reached at the meeting with the graded chiefs through the Ona of Abaji.

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike has stated that his party member, Dino Melaye is not fit to be the governor of Kogi state.

Recall the screening committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had cleared Melaye, Reuben Atabo (SAN), and eight others as aspirants for its ticket in the forthcoming Kogi State governorship election.

Wike stated that the former Kogi West lawmaker is not worthy to be the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the forthcoming election.

According to the governor, Melaye is an “actor” and does not have any qualities to lead the people of the North Central State.

If Not For Peter Obi, North Would Have Retained Power – Nyesom Wike Says

Nyesom Wike, the Rivers State Governor, has talked about Peter Obi.

He described Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, as the hero of the 2023 presidential election.

Governor Wike said the decision of Obi to contest the presidential election under the platform of the Labour Party, primarily prevented the North from retaining power after the end of President Muhammadu Buhari’s tenure.

The Rivers State Governor made the commendation during an interactive meeting with the Technical Dealers Association of Nigeria, Computer Dealers Association, Garrison Phone Dealers Association and Building Materials Traders Association in Port Harcourt on Saturday.

Governor Wike explained that contrary to insinuation that he did not support Obi, what most people failed to realise is that the Labour Party presidential candidate remains his hero of the election.

“Obi is my hero. If Obi did not contest, power would have gone back to the North. The whole of South-South and South-East that PDP lost if Obi did not contest PDP would have won,” he said.

He further added: “The hero in this election is Obi whether you like it or not. I am not here to please you, Obi is the hero. He may not have been pronounced as the winner, no problem, the law will take its course. If Obi did not run this election, power would have remained in the North. Whether he declared a winner now or not, history will be on his side that he fought and fought well.”

The Rivers State Governor said the reason he did not publicly declare support for any presidential candidate was that the PDP G-5 governors had unanimously agreed to ensure the emergence of a president from southern Nigeria to succeed President Buhari.

Governor Wike said while members of the G-5 governors assiduously worked for power to return to the South, the likes of former Rivers State governor and immediate past Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Amaechi, who is now soliciting for Igbo to support APC candidate, Tonye Cole, mobilised votes for Atiku Abubakar.

“If Amaechi loves the Igbos, why did he not support Obi? Instead, he supported Atiku. He did not want the power to return to the South because he lost the APC ticket.”

The governor said the reason Amaechi is deliberately canvassing support for Tonye Cole is that he wants to stall their ongoing prosecution for embezzling $50 million from the Rivers State government coffers.

Governor Wike urged Igbos in Rivers State to be wary of Amaechi, who served as Minister of Transportation for over seven years but failed to revive eastern ports and railway lines from Enugu-Aba-Port Harcourt.

The governor recalled that when Amaechi was the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, he vehemently opposed the plan to compensate Igbos who lost their property in the State during the civil war.

According to him, it is absolutely mischievous for Amaechi, who also served as Rivers State governor from 2007 to 2015, to wake up in 2023 to resurrect the issue of abandoned property because of his inordinate political ambition.

The governor announced the allocation of 150 plots of land to the Computer Dealers Association and 30 plots to Computer Dealers Association to develop an industrial park in Port Harcourt.

The Chairmen of the Computer Dealers Association, Mr Anunobi Ikechi and the Building Materials Traders Association, Okwudiri Onuorah, assured the governor of their support for the Rivers State PDP governorship candidate, Siminialayi Fubara in the March 18 elections.

2023 Polls: Support Tinubu Openly, Don’t Go Through The Back Door – Labour Party Slams Wike

Gov Wike

Gov Nyesom Wike

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike has been slammed by the Labour Party, LP, over speculations about his support for Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, the Presidential flagbearer of the ruling All Progressives Congress in the February 25th polls.

National Vice Chairman, South South, Labour Party, Favour Reuben, during a briefing with newsmen in Port Harcourt on Tuesday, said Wike’s actions and decisions were from a place of selfish interest.

Reuben stated that Governor Wike, who previously described the APC as cancer and the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, as malaria, should have rather looked for the cure to these deadly diseases, who he said is Peter Obi.

“We are hearing that our Governor (Wike, who few years back declared our state as a Christian State because he was running for election, has made a U-turn overnight and suddenly decided to form an alliance with Muslim – Muslim ticket because of his personal interest.

“The Wike we all know is not a coward that will surreptitiously ask his PDP followers to work for Tinubu of the APC without coming out openly, but if this is true, then we are in trouble and our PVCs should speak for us, being the only tool at our disposal to usher in a Government that will ameliorate our suffering, both at the State and Federal level.

“Secondly, our Governor (Wike) said APC is cancer, while PDP is malaria, so I will be expecting the Governor to look for the cure of these deadly diseases and the only cure is the Labour Party driven by Peter Gregory Obi, who has been tested and trusted in Governance.”

The South-South Vice Chairman of LP also said Governor Wike’s support for a man, whose region in the South has produced a president and is currently the Vice President of the country, questions his principle of equity, fairness and justice.

He challenged Wike to come out openly and tell the people his preferred presidential candidate.

“As a man, we know who Wike is. He should come out and tell Rivers people that the man we are supporting is Tinubu.

“He should not take it through the back door; we want him to come out openly.”

Governor Wike Finally Opens Up After Being Accused Of Secretly Planning to Join APC

Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers state has finally reacted to claims that he’s secretly planning to join the All Progressives Congress.
Reacting, Wike denied the allegation.
Speaking at the 114th Quarterly General Meeting of the Rivers State Council of Traditional Rulers in Port Harcourt on Monday, February 20, Wike said he remains an unrepentant member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) despite being impressed by APC’s support for power shift to the south.
He said;
“I am not a member of APC and will not be. But, they have made me to recognise that they are the heroes of this country. APC governors came out to say for the unity of this country, presidency should go to the south.

“They said they want the unity of this country and therefore, the presidency should go to the south. They could have as well said no, it doesn’t matter. As governors we have the number. We can still say it should remain where it should remain. But they didn’t do that.

“They said the way we are seeing this country we want everybody to be together. Let no one say because I have the population, therefore, you will continue to dominate. In dominating you need peace, without peace you cannot govern.

“We are all Nigerians and we want unity of this country, want Nigeria to move forward as a united country. Rivers has always been in support of one Nigeria and we’ll continue to support one Nigeria. But in doing that, we believe in equity, justice and fairness. As governor of this State, I will vote for the unity of this country. I will vote for anything that will unite Nigeria.

“I will not support anything that will divide Nigeria. And that is what necessitated the principle of live and let’s live. If only one person continues to live, things will not be good. It’s not about party, it is about Nigeria. I am a member of PDP, unrepentant who in fact built this party when people ran away.”
