2027 is a done deal for APC in Edo — Governor Okpebholo

Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has declared that the opposition in the state will collapse entirely before the 2027 general elections, as the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) continues to consolidate its influence.

Speaking during the official flag-off of the campaign for the August 16 senatorial by-election in Edo Central, held in Uromi, Okpebholo expressed confidence that the APC would record sweeping victories, not only in the by-election but also in future contests.

“This is a test for 2027. I can tell you that 2027 is sure. Before then, there will be no opposition in Edo State anymore as all will join the APC because of the developmental achievements in the state,” he said.

The governor, who was joined by APC state chairman, Jarrett Tenebe, also welcomed several decampees from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and other opposition groups. Among the notable figures who defected to the APC were Alhaji Esiwele Musa, Abraham Osazuwa, Sunny Ejie, and Robert Okoneme, along with other PDP leaders across the 51 wards in the senatorial district.

Okpebholo called on remaining opposition candidates to defect to the APC, urging them not to waste resources on a lost cause.

“I understand that it is only the candidates in the other parties that have not decamped to our party, the APC. I advise them not to waste their money but to join our party. If they give you money, take it and vote for the APC. The money is our money,” he said.

He further reiterated that the party would sweep the by-election across all five local government areas and 51 wards in the Edo Central Senatorial District. He also reassured supporters that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu would receive overwhelming support from Edo in the 2027 presidential election.

“We promised to give the President 2.5 million votes, and we are ready to deliver on our promises. We will not talk much because the election is a done deal,” he said.

Bride price should be reserved for virgins only – Reno Omokri

Former presidential aide Reno Omokri has stated that only virgins should be regarded as true brides, asserting that requesting bride price for a non-virgin is tantamount to extortion.

He expressed this view in a detailed post shared on his official X account on Sunday.

Omokri further argued that many Africans have confused the terms “dowry” and “bride price,” misapplying their meanings despite their distinct origins and cultural significance.

He said …

“The Difference Between Dowry and Bride Price and Bride and Wife

There is a huge difference between a dowry and a bride price. But in this part of the world (Sub-Saharan Africa), we use them interchangeably. But they are not interchangeable.

A dowry is the money and property given to a female child on her wedding day, by her parents, to take to her husband’s home to become the joint property of both her and her husband.

It is practised in Europe, Asia, and the Middle East.

This is in line with the Biblical injunction that a wife is a helper to her husband, not a burden-Genesis 2:18.

A bride price, however, is different. In African culture, and Jewish traditions and law, it is the property or money demanded by a bride’s family to give her away in marriage to her intended husband, on the grounds that she is a virgin. Please see Exodus 22:17, and the aso asa Ibale custom of the Lukumi Yoruba.

Exodus 22:17 says:

If her father absolutely refuses to give her to him, he must still pay the bride-price for virgins.

And according to the Lukumi Yoruba, if the bride’s virginity is not proven by the aso funfun (white cloth on which the marriage is consummated on the bridal night), being stained, the marriage is not valid and the bride price will be returned.

The exorbitant demand for property and money by some Sub-Saharan African ethnicities, who I will not identify, for a woman who is not a virgin is not legally and technically a bride price. It is extortion!

If you read Scripture, the term ‘bride’ is never used for a woman who is not a virgin.

For example, Isaiah 62:5 is very clear on the matter. That verse says:

“For as a young man marries a virgin, so your sons shall marry you; and as the bridegroom rejoices over the bride, so your God will rejoice over you.”

Also, Jeremiah 2:32 says:

For example, you will notice that David paid a bride price for King Saul’s daughter in 1 Samuel 18:20-27. However, he did not pay a bride price for Abigail-1 Samuel 25:40-42.

If we in Africa do not return to these traditions and continue the moral decadence in our society, where sex and sensuality are not curtailed, we will continue to be the dregs of the world, with high rates of sexually transmitted diseases.

Finally, a White wedding is not our culture in Africa, and it is not a Christian wedding. It is purely a European traditional wedding.

If we must adopt that culture, we must appropriate it accurately.

In Europe, from where we got the practice, it is NOT the man or his family that pays for a White wedding. Customarily, it is the bride’s father who foots the bill.,

Industrial Money Obtainers, I hope you’ve heard?”

Kayikunmi, Isabella after-party makeout gets BBNaija viewers talking

Kayikunmi and Isabella, the BBNaija Ten Over Ten housemates, sparked a buzz on social media following their make-out after the Saturday night party.

The intimate encounter started when the pair initiated close contact and Isabella allowed Kayikunmi to kiss her and fondle her body.

They later retreated to the bedroom, where things got more intense as Kayikunmi was seen kissing her breasts first through her top, then more directly after she lifted it.

The video has sparked a wave of reactions on social media, with some users criticising the pair for conduct.

Some others defended them, arguing that the show is adult-rated and meant for mature audiences.

Former BBNaija star Pere also described Nigerians as too emotional and judgmental for true reality TV.

“I said it before, I’d say it again, Nigerians think they’re ready for reality tv. Truth is they’re not,” he wrote.

“Too emotional, too judgmental. Just anyhow people. Na una wan vote winner?

“When you’re all judging wrongly and slutshaming a woman for showing her boobs on a show that’s rated 18+ on national television?”

The BBNaija Season 10 kicked off on July 28 with a two-day opening ceremony.

This year’s winner will take home a staggering N150 million, the highest grand prize in the show’s history since its debut in 2006.

Big Brother had earlier put 28 housemates, except the head of house, up for a fake eviction.

BBNaija 10: Thelma Emerges Head Of House For Week 2

Thelma Lawson has emerged the interim Head of House for the second week in the ongoing Big Brother Naija Season 10.

The announcement came after a competitive HoH game that took place shortly after the live show.

Big Brother invited all the housemates to the arena, where they were grouped by gender and given a water-filling challenge.

Thelma emerged as the top female performer, while Jason Jae won in the male category.

The two winners faced off in a final round, which involved carefully placing eggs on a deck using only a spoon.

Thelma completed the task faster than Jason, earning her the Head of House title.

She later picked Kayikunmi to join her in the HoH lounge.

However, her victory comes with a condition.

A new twist in the game means that Thelma must defend her title in a special challenge on Monday.

If another housemate performs better, she could lose the position.

BBNaija Season 10 began on July 28 with a two-day launch.

The winner of this season will walk away with a cash prize of N150 million, the highest reward since the reality show began in 2006.

In other news, all 29 housemates in the Big Brother Naija Season 10 show were thrown into celebration mood on Sunday evening after learning that no one would be evicted in the first week.

626Blaze reports that the twist was revealed during the first Sunday Live Show by host Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, who informed the contestants that they would all remain in the house for now.

The housemates, who had been tense throughout the week, immediately relaxed and hugged each other in joy.

“I’m a very wise woman, I know when to fight” — Iyabo Ojo slams Verydarkman

Actress Iyabo Ojo has responded fiercely to claims made by social media activist Verydarkman, who alleged she backed out of an agreement to publicly apologise to Naira Marley and Sam Larry.

Her rebuttal comes hours after Verydarkman shared details of a roundtable discussion at the Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Centre (NPF NCCC) held with Naira Marley, Sam Larry, Iyabo Ojo, Tonto Dikeh, and their legal teams, claiming Iyabo had promised to apologise publicly for accusing Naira Marley and Sam Larry of involvement in Mohbad’s death but later reneged.

In a new live TikTok session, Iyabo dismissed Verydarkman’s narrative as manipulative and dishonest, calling him “corny” and “deceitful.”

“So you had to come out and do your normal manipulating tactic. I’m a very wise woman. I’m not like you that’s very deceitful and corny. You’ve tried in all your might to bring me down, but you cannot,”she said.

Iyabo defended her actions, stating she had genuine reasons to speak out at the time. She explained that her reaction was driven by disturbing videos and online reports that emerged after Mohbad died in 2023.

“I used to promote Naira Marley’s songs until Mohbad died. I saw a video of Naira Marley dancing after Mohbad’s death, I was angry,” she stated.

She went further to describe seeing videos of Sam Larry allegedly mocking the late singer and others showing physical assault, which she said compelled her to believe the bullying accusations.

“I saw Sam Larry’s video where he accosted Zlatan Ibile and Mohbad; that was when I believed the bullying allegation. As a concerned citizen and a mother, I used my platforms,” she explained.

“Name the Killer Or Face The Law” — Mohbad’s Brother Warns Verydarkman Over Prolonged Claims

Adura, brother of the late Nigerian singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, has fired a stern warning at social media influencer Verydarkman, demanding an end to what he described as a prolonged and unsubstantiated investigation into the circumstances of the singer’s tragic death.

Taking to Instagram, Adura expressed growing frustration over Verydarkman’s recent online commentary, particularly concerning a leaked WhatsApp group chat that has revived speculation about Mohbad’s demise. According to Adura, the influencer’s suggestive remarks have generated intense public suspense without offering any concrete revelations.

In his post, Adura accused Verydarkman of playing to the gallery by raising public hopes without backing his claims with facts or evidence. He threatened legal action if the online activist fails to substantiate his accusations or reveal clear findings about what allegedly led to Mohbad’s death.

Quote
“Someone tell that prose narrator there’s already public suspense and he must finish the prose,”

Adura wrote.

Quote
“Even I am waiting for the epilogue, because he already raised my hope that he’s going to show us what killed my brother Moh inside the house—something that was hidden even from me.”

He further clarified that he had already given his full account to the Nigeria Police Force and the coroner handling the case, and stressed that the burden now lies on Verydarkman to provide clarity or stop fueling public confusion.

Quote
“But this sudden online witness, investigator, prosecutor, and magistrate combined must help us with what happened beyond our own knowledge,”

Adura continued.

Quote
“If he doesn’t explain it to the public, the way he stirred emotions and set minds against me, then he will explain it to a court someday!”

The latest outburst underscores the ongoing tension surrounding Mohbad’s controversial death, which continues to attract public interest nearly a year after the incident. As calls for justice persist, the family appears increasingly intolerant of speculation they believe may deepen their grief or mislead the public.

Yul Edochie Urges Igbos To Leave Ghana, Invest In Southeast

Nollywood actor, Yul Edochie has issued an emotional appeal to Igbos living abroad, especially those in Ghana, urging them to return home and invest in the Southeast.

This comes in response to rising tensions in Ghana, where protests recently erupted, with some locals calling for the deportation of Nigerians amid allegations of increasing criminal activity.

In a heartfelt message shared on his Facebook page, Edochie said the backlash should not be met with hostility, but seen as a spiritual sign to reconnect with their roots.

“Ndi Igbo, come back home and invest in Igbo land. If you’re facing rejection on foreign soil, it’s not a sign to fight. It’s a sign to return home,” he wrote.

He described the situation as a call from Igbo ancestors to rebuild the region, emphasising that a new era of unity and development is dawning in the Southeast.

Quoting a popular proverb, he concluded: “Ana amalu mma si na uno wee puo ilo,  meaning “beauty begins at home before it shines outside.”
