Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has slammed the All Progressives Congress (APC) with a huge accusation.
He accused the APC of trying to compromise the judiciary.
Atiku and Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP) are challenging the declaration of Bola Tinubu, candidate of the APC, as the winner of the 2023 presidential election by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
Part of the grounds for the challenge was Tinubu’s failure to secure at least 25% of votes cast in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
However, Tinubu, through his counsel, Wole Olanipekun, argued that the FCT is the 37th state for electoral purposes and any other interpretation would “lead to absurdity, chaos, anarchy and alteration of the very intention of the legislature.”
Atiku, in a statement signed by his media adviser, Paul Ibe on Saturday, said the APC and agents of Tinubu have “ceaselessly chosen to stand in the way of justice by making “catastrophic threats to anarchy if justice is not served according to their whims.”
“The plot of the APC is simple: intimidate the judiciary, threaten judges with arrest so that they will bow to their will. This is a playbook from 2019, when they removed the CJN and then replaced him with Tanko Muhammad, who himself was later accused of corruption by his colleagues at the Supreme Court and resigned shamefully,” the statement reads in part.
Charles Oputa, the maverick Nigerian singer, who is also known as Charly Boy, has explained why he is still in Nigeria.
He said he is still in Nigeria despite his preferred presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, Peter Obi of the Labour Party not emerging president because he is “hopeful.”
Recall that before the 2023 presidential elections, Charly Boy had vowed to relocate from Nigeria if either Bola Tinubu of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, or Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, emerged president.
Tinubu was declared the winner of the February 25th presidential election and was subsequently sworn in as president on May 29th.
Months after Tinubu’s swearing-in, Charly Boy said he is still in the country because Peter Obi renewed his hope.
He made this known via his Twitter handle on Friday.
“I remember over 1yr ago, I bin talk say, if PDP or APC win election, I go just pack my tins commot Nigeria.
“Today am still staying put in Nigeria because I am hopeful in the face of all the Potopoto I see.
“Thank you, Peter Obi for renewing my HOPE. God bless you,” he wrote.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has stated that he is aware of the sufferings experienced by Nigerians following the removal of fuel subsidy.
He assured Nigerians that the decision was in the best interest of the country, especially in guaranteeing future prosperity.
The President stated this when he received the 18 governors who served with him, Class of 1999, at the Presidential Villa, on July 12. He assured Nigerians that the framework for palliatives to remedy the effects of fuel subsidy removal was being worked out.
Tinubu said the government will increase effort, speed up the process and ensure a full-proof social security structure that will not be compromised, especially in cash-transfer.
“I understand that our people are suffering yet there can be no childbirth without pain. The joy of childbirth is the relief that comes after the pain. Nigeria is reborn already with fuel subsidy removal. It is a rebirth of the country for the largest number over a few smugglers. Please tell the people to be a little patient.
The palliative is coming. I don’t want cash-transfer to fall into wrong hands. I know it pinches and it is difficult. In the end, we will rejoice in the prosperity of our country,’’ he told the governors, who were led by former Governor of Edo State, Lucky Igbinedion.
Former governor of Ekiti state and member of the Peoples Democratic Party, Ayodele Fayose has said that he never knew Bola Ahmed Tinubu would emerge as Nigeria’s President.
Fayose recalled celebrating Tinubu on his birthday since 2015, but never knew he would become Nigeria’s president.
Speaking on Channels Television’s programme, Sunday Politics, Fayose said he has no regret clamouring for power to shift to Southern Nigeria ahead of the 2023 presidential election.
He also noted that he has never hidden his stance for Tinubu as the leader of the Southwest.
According to Fayose: “I have never hidden in my position on Asiwaju Bola Tinubu. Let me remind you very quickly. I never knew Asiwaju will be president of Nigeria and there was no time in 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2018 that I have not celebrated his birthday on the pages of newspapers as the then-governor of Ekiti State.
“One of the messages I passed across at that time was that party politics notwithstanding, he will remain our leader in the West for long.
“I never knew he would be president of Nigeria. I counted the costs before I took those actions. If Tinubu is not an example to identify with, somebody like me would not identify with him.”
Last week, Fayose visited Tinubu at the presidential Villa in Abuja.
Speaking after the visit, the former governor, who commended the president, vowed to tackle him if he derails from his promises to Nigerians.
