Graham Potter Sacked by Chelsea After Less Than Seven Months in Charge

Graham Potter has been sacked as head coach of Chelsea Football Club.
His sack came after suffering his 11th defeat in 31 games since replacing Thomas Tuchel at Standford Bridge on 8 September.
Graham Potter was appointed as Thomas Tuchel’s replacement on September 8 on a five-year deal, but has left the club just seven months into that contract, after winning only seven of his 22 Premier League games in charge.
Chelsea have dropped to 11th in the Premier League – 12 points outside the top four – having spent more than £550m on new players this season.
The co-controlling owners, Boehly and Behdad Eghbali, said: “On behalf of everyone at the club, we want to thank Graham sincerely for his contribution to Chelsea. We have the highest degree of respect for Graham as a coach and as a person. He has always conducted himself with professionalism and integrity and we are all disappointed in this outcome.

“Along with our incredible fans, we will all be getting behind Bruno and the team as we focus on the rest of the season. We have 10 Premier League games remaining and a Champions League quarter-final ahead. We will put every effort and commitment into every one of those games so that we can end the season on a high.

“Graham has agreed to collaborate with the club to facilitate a smooth transition. In his time with the club, Graham has taken us to the quarter‑final of the Champions League, where we will face Real Madrid. Chelsea would like to thank Graham for all his efforts and contribution and wish him well for the future.”

Julian Nagelsmann, who was sacked a week ago as Bayern Munich boss, has been installed as the favourite to replace Potter.

Joao Felix corrects reporter on how to pronounce his name

Chelsea football star, Joao Felix has revealed how to pronounce his name properly.

The Portuguese star who moved to Stamford Bridge in January on loan from Atletico Madrid, gave the correction during a press conference.

Speaking ahead of Chelsea’s crucial meeting with Dortmund at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday night after a 1-0 defeat in the first leg, Felix was asked by a journalist how to correctly say his name.

Many English and Spanish fans incorrectly pronounce his name ‘Jow Fee-lix’ but the star revealed that it’s actually “Je-wow Feh-lix”.

“Everyone says ‘Fee-lix’, even in Spain, just in Portugal they say my correct name. I don’t know why, I don’t think it’s too hard,” Felix said.

When asked if the mispronunciation annoys him, Felix said: “Nah! I don’t care.”

Felix became the fourth most expensive footballer of all time when Atletico Madrid signed him from Benfica for £113m in 2019, but the youngster struggled for consistent form in the Spanish capital.

He had a rocky relationship with fiery Atletico manager Diego Simeone and so it was decided it would suit all parties if he went out on loan.

Chelsea has confirmed that Thiago Silva’s contract has been extended until 2024.

Thiago Silva, a veteran Brazilian defender, has signed a new contract with Chelsea that will last until 2024.

Thiago Silva

The 38-year-old defender who has become a key player in the team since arriving at Stamford Bridge in 2020, has shown himself to be evergreen and has arguably been the Blues’ most consistent performer throughout the tenures of both Thomas Tuchel and Graham Potter.

Aubameyang was spotted in Milan while Chelsea was playing Fulham.

Gabonese footballer, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was seen in Milan, Italy, on Friday night as he was seemingly in no mood to stay in London for the Premier League match between Chelsea and Fulham after finding out he was kicked out of the Blues’ Champions League squad.

Aubameyang

Earlier in the day, it was discovered that his name was omitted from Chelsea’s Champions League squad for their upcoming last-16 tie against Borussia Dortmund.

Chelsea’s coach, Graham Potter added January signings Enzo Fernandez, Mykhailo Mudryk, and Joao Felix to the team, while new arrivals Benoit Badiashile, David Datro Fofana, and Noni Madueke didn’t make the cut.

While Aubameyang’s Chelsea teammates played against Fulham in a match that ended 0-0, he was spotted in Milan with his family, going by an image his brother posted to Instagram.

It is also unlikely that the 33-year-old footballer will get back in the team for their next fixture against West Ham on February 11.

Chelsea will return to European action on February 15 when they travel to Germany to face Borussia Dortmund. The London team finished top of Group E with 13 points, ahead of AC Milan, Red Bull Salzburg, and Dinamo Zagreb.

Mudryk re-posts a Chelsea chant mocking Arsenal’s failure to sign him.

Mykhailo Mudryk, the new Chelsea signing, appears to have a petty side, as he took to social media to re-share a chant from the club’s supporters mocking league leaders Arsenal for failing to sign him.

Mykhailo Mudryk

For the overwhelming majority of the January window, Mudryk seemed destined to join Arsenal for a fee of around £80million but the Gunners pursuit of the 22-year-old was hijacked by their London rivals.

Chelsea pipped the Gunners to the signing and in turn, forced Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta to resort to his plan B signing in former Brighton star Leandro Trossard for a drastically cheaper price of £27m.

Mudryk was brought in during the match against Liverpool and he impressed in the 35 minutes he played in the match which ended 0-0.

During the match, Chelsea fans sang a chant that goes this way: “He flew in from Ukraine, on Boehly’s private plane, Mudryk said to me: ‘Have Arsenal won the Champions League?’. So I told him no, you know the place to go, then he said to me, I want to lift number three.”

Mudryk who seems to be happy with the chant, re-shared a fan page video of supporters singing it on his Instagram story.

Dont sleep on it!! Follow in the footsteps of Mudryk. Pick Money!

This past weekend, Mykhailo Mudryk went viral for his amazing €100 million (£88 million) transfer to Chelsea from Shakhtar Donetsk, as you might have noticed if you happened to wander into football Twitter.

Another factor contributing to the flurry of conversation is that Arsenal approached Mudryk’s club, Shakhtar, with offers of £55 million and then £62 million; the player had even agreed to terms of compensation with the Gunners. However, Chelsea arrived like a rich sugar daddy from Nollywood, his club accepted, and the rest is history.

Yes, not all the money will go to him, but Mudryk chose money after accepting his club’s decision. Despite the fact that I don’t know anything about football, I’m glad he did. Here’s why you should always choose money, like Mudryk did:

Account balances don’t recognise passion

If it’s not the work of your village people, why would you have passion for a job that pays you ₦30k?

It’s better to cry inside AC

Every job will stress you. It’s better to cry inside an air-conditioned office and clean your tears with dollar bills than to motivate yourself with, “I love my job”.

Your coworkers don’t like you like that

You think your team is your “family”, but even your work spouse would leave you in an instant if another job promises to 2x their salary. Don’t play yourself.

Neither does your boss

Especially if they always motivate the team to “believe in the collective dream”. Let someone else shove money in their face first.

The economy is economying

Everything is expensive. The noodles you bought for ₦100 yesterday can be ₦500 tomorrow. Do you get where I’m going with this?

Bad bitches are rich bitches

How do you want to reach the full extent of your bad bitchery with only ₦5k in your account two days after payday?

Don’t you want to be a baller?

Because why are you even choosing anything over money?

Chelsea will have to remove a player from their Champions League squad in order to sign three new players.

Following the announcement of Mykhailo Mudryk by Chelsea on Sunday, January 15, the club will now have to remove a player from their Champions League squad in order to register some of their new players.

Recall that Mudryk arrived yesterday as Chelsea’s 5th signing in the January transfer window. David Datro Fofana, Andrey Santos, Benoit Badiashile and Joao Felix had all agreed to a deal with the club this month.

Chelsea now has more non-homegrown players than are permitted for a Champions League squad. Only 17 non-homegrown players can be registered, while Chelsea now has 18 on their books according to Daily Mail.

Should the club’s coach, Graham Potter wish to include his new signings for their round of 16 first-leg showdown with Borussia Dortmund on February 15, he’ll have to remove a player who helped Chelsea top Group E late last year.

Some of the players that can easily be omitted are Christian Pulisic, N’Golo Kante, and Denis Zakaria who are all nursing injuries.

Mykhailo Mudryk is presented to fans after Chelsea signed him ahead of Arsenal.

The 22-year-old winger committed to the London club in an 8-year, €100 million agreement. According to sources speaking to ESPN, the package includes a fixed cost of €70 million and an additional €30 million in add-ons, matching the Ukrainian club’s asking price for the sale of the 22-year-old.

Mykhailo Mudryk

Mudryk has previously stated on social media that he prefers to play for Premier League leaders Arsenal.

Arsenal reportedly made their third offer for Mudryk on Friday, January 13. The bid was believed to comprise around €70m up front with what one source described as “significant add-ons,” although the overall package was still thought to be short of Shakhtar’s €100m valuation.

He looked poised to sign for London rivals Arsenal before a last-minute intervention from Chelsea’s recruitment head Paul Winstanley and co-owner Behdad Eghbali on Saturday, January 14, with the pair flying to Turkey to negotiate the deal.

Chelsea offered Mudryk a better wage package and a longer contract than what Arsenal tabled. Insiders also said the €30m in bonuses involved in the Chelsea deal are easily achievable.

“We are delighted to welcome Mykhailo to Chelsea,”Todd Boehly, Chelsea chairman said. Behdad Eghbali, the co-controlling owner, added “He’s a hugely exciting talent who we believe will be a terrific addition to our squad both now and in the years to come. He will add further depth to our attack and we know he’ll get a very warm welcome to London.”

The 22-year-old was in attendance for Chelsea’s game against Crystal Palace at Stamford Bridge today, January 15, and he was presented to fans.

Speaking to the club website, Mudryk said;

“I’m so happy to sign for Chelsea. This is a huge club, in a fantastic league and it is a very attractive project for me at this stage of my career. I’m excited to meet my new team-mates and I’m looking forward to working and learning under Graham Potter and his staff.”

The Ukrainian footballer is now the fifth arrival at Stamford Bridge in the January transfer window.
