New Cat: It’s Good Many People Think I’m New In Music Industry – Burna Boy Says (Video)

Damini Ogulu, the Grammy award-winning Nigerian singer, famously known as Burna Boy, has explained that he is not bothered by being labeled a ‘new cat’ in the music industry.

He said he is not bothered by the misconception that he is new in the music industry despite releasing his debut album a decade ago.

Recall that Davido last month sparked a debate after classing Burna Boy under “new cats” alongside Rema, Asake, Fireboy DML etc.

Many berated the DMW head honcho for underrating Burna Boy.

However, in a recent chat with Apple Music’s Ebro, Burna Boy said it is a good thing some people think he is new in the industry, stressing that it makes him feel younger and want to do more.

He said, “It is a good thing that people think my movement is new. I love that. Because it keeps me young. It means like, I can do so much more, you know. It stretches my life span.

“I’m living longer than I thought I would than I even planned to, you know.”

The ‘Last Last’ crooner said he has always known that he would be great.

Burna Boy added that he does all kinds of music because he is “trying to make the world understand that music is bigger than a genre. I feel blessed that I can do different genres. It would have been a waste if I had restricted myself to a genre.”

Bill Gates Confirmed Burna Boy’s Upcoming Status – Daniel Regha Claims

Daniel Regha, the controversial social media commentator, has made another controversial claim about Burna Boy.

Regha suggested that co-chair of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Bill Gates, has confirmed his stance about musical superstar, Burna Boy being an upcoming artiste.

Last month, Regha in an interview with former BBNaija housemate, Doyinsola David referred to Burna Boy as an upcoming artiste, in comparison to Davido, Olamide and Wizkid.

Recently, Bill Gates, during a forum with students and young innovators from Nigeria and across Africa, shared he was ‘forced’ to look up two Afrobeats stars, Burna Boy and Rema following his daughter’s excitement about them.

He acknowledged Davido and Wizkid, stating ‘the last time he was in Nigeria, he did get to see them perform and was quite impressed with their performance’.

This prompted Regha’s remark where he reinforced his stance about Burna Boy being a new cat just like Davido had also mentioned during a recent interview.

O.B.O claimed he championed the spread of Afrobeats globally along with Wizkid and expressed joy at seeing the likes of Burna Boy, Rema, Asake, Fireboy DML, Mayorkun and others who he dubbed as ‘new cats’ ‘coming in and killing it’.

Following Gates comments on the Afrobeats superstars, Regha chided individuals who criticised Davido, Timaya and him for calling Burna an upcomer in the Nigerian music scene.

“When I said that Burna is still an upcomer despite his popularity, people called me crazy. Davido & Timaya were also insulted for implying the same; But all of a sudden Burna’s upcomer status has become facts cos of Bill Gates? Lolz. Y’all should keep deceiving yourselves,” he tweeted.

My Daughter Excited I’ll See Burna Boy, Rema In Nigeria — Bill Gates

American business magnate and cofounder of Microsoft, Bill Gates has disclosed that  youngest daughter, Phoebe, was excited he would see superstars like Burna Boy and Rema, during his visit to Nigeria.

He said this on Wednesday while delivering his opening address at an event in Lagos State.

Recall that Gates and Aliko Dangote visited President Bola Tinubu on Monday.

The visitation was part of the Gates Foundation’s commitment to working closely with communities and leaders to support innovation.

Gates disclosed the 20-year-old excitement over his visit to Nigeria and the possibility of meeting Afrobeats stars such as Burna Boy and Rema.

“When my daughter Phoebe heard I was coming to Nigeria, she said, “You’re lucky because you get to see Burna Boy and Rema, so I had to look them up…because I’m so ‘hip’. But I remember the last time I was here, I got to see Davido & Wizkid perform,” the philanthropist said.

Gates added that Nigeria is filled with creative minds and Afrobeats from Nigeria are popular everywhere.

“Of course, being here in Nigeria, I can’t help but mention the amazing creativity that goes on here.

“Afrobeats from Nigeria are popular everywhere. When my daughter Phoebe heard I was coming to Nigeria, she said, ‘You’re lucky to go see Burna Boy and Rema,” he said.

He further recalled his last visit to Nigeria seeing Davido and Wizkid perform.

“But I also remember, the last time I was here, I did get to see Davido and Wizkid perform and I was quite impressed with that. So, my kids think I’ve come to a very hip place,” he added.

Burna Boy Under Fire For Cancelling Show After Fans Filled Stadium

Superstar Nigerian artiste, Damini Ogulu, popularly known as Burna Boy, has received backlash on social media for cancelling his headline show billed for Saturday night at the GelreDome, Arnhem, Netherlands after the stadium was already filled with fans.

Fans reportedly filled the 41,000-capacity-seater waiting for hours for the Grammy winner to thrill them before they received the rude news of the late cancellation of the show.

Burna Boy took to his Instastory midnight to announce that the show won’t be holding despite fans already filling the venue.

The music star said he was anticipating performing for his Dutch fans but unfortunately, it couldn’t happen due to “a number of reasons.”

He said his “amazing team has been hard at work trying to salvage it but we couldn’t do it in time.”

He promised to announce a new date soon.

However, Burna Boy’s explanation didn’t seem to sit well with fans as they took to social media to berate the singer and his team over their action.

An aggrieved fan wrote: “Useless. Got us waiting for more than two hours, to cancel the show at midnight. Rubbish.”

Another fan wrote: “Burna isn’t supposed to be a celeb, doesn’t have what it takes. So unwise in handling fans, canceling shows after much delay. That’s disrespectful! More unwise are fans who idolize him, turn up every time. Y’all create an association to deal with any celeb that messes up. So unwise.”

Burna Boy Not ‘New Cat’ – Ghanaian Singer, Stonebwoy Disagrees With Davido

Stonebwoy, the popular Ghanaian dancehall artist, has reacted to Davido’s viral ‘new cat’ statement.

He disagreed with Davido’s assertion that Grammy-award winner, Burna Boy, is a “new cat” in the music industry.

The ‘Activate’ crooner said contrary to Davido’s claim, Burna Boy is a music legend.

He stated this in a recent interview with GoldMyne TV.

He said, “Burna Boy is not a new cat to me because Burna has been there for more than a decade.

“If Davido said that, I honestly do not believe that he means that outrightly. New cats would be Rema, Ruger them.

“So, I don’t believe Davido meant that but also if you ask me, I think Wizkid and Davido had have a fair share of international appeal earlier than Burna.”
