Ahmed Ololade, the award-winning singer, who is popularly known as Asake, has disclosed his alias is his mother’s name as he shared the reason for adopting it professionally.
The YBNL signee’s stage name is generally considered feminine which has led many social media users to question why he chose it.
In a recent interview, the Afro-fusion act explained he chose to use his mother’s name as his stage identity.
Speaking with CNN, Mr Money mentioned his mother’s name was adopted by him during his university days, adding that his friends prompted it.
He explained that besides loving his mom and being identified with her by embracing her name, he also loved savouring the feeling of shock from the crowd whenever he appeared on stage after being introduced, seeing they often expect to behold a lady.
He said: “My friends started using it to play with me, and they said, ‘Omo Asake, omo Asake, Asake came yesterday’ and you know students can be funny. So at the end of the day they removed the ‘omo’ and started calling me Asake.
“So it’s so easy for me [to adopt the name] because when I’m introduced on stage, people expect a beautiful lady or a nice girl. I just like the feeling and the shock on their faces.
“Also, I love my mother and the fact that people call my mother’s name through me.”
The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) have agreed to embark on a nationwide strike from Tuesday, October 3, 2023.
The decision was reached by the organised Labour Unions on Tuesday after the failure of the Federal Government to successfully implement policies to alleviate the sufferings of Nigerians.
The organised labour unions had made demands from the Federal Government following the removal of the subsidy on Premium Motor Spirit.
Among other things, the NLC and the TUC are asking for wage awards, implementation of palliatives, tax exemptions and allowances to public sector workers and a review of the minimum wage.
The National President of NLC, Joe Ajaero during a virtual National Executive Council meeting which was held on Zoom, Tuesday told members of NEC that a meeting was held with the officials of the TUC to deliberate on ways forward.
Ajaero noted that it was resolved that the two centres work together to make their stance known to the government.
A source who was present at the meeting who spoke with Punch noted that some members of the NLC initially objected to the development of the NLC working together with the TUC.
The source said, “Initially some members did not want us to work with the TUC but as of now, we don’t have a choice. The government has not been proactive. So it is going to be a definite action this time around.” my
Prince Adewole Adebayo, the presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), in the 2023 polls has opined that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is the headquarters of fraud in the country.
He stated this on Tuesday during an interaction with a cross-section of Nigerians in an online interactive forum HaveYourSay247, moderated by Rudolf Okonkwo.
Adebayo recalled how he warned stakeholders about the insincerity of the electoral umpire months before the February 25 presidential election, stressing that INEC was just fooling everyone with its promise to transmit results electronically.
The legal practitioner questioned how anyone could trust INEC to conduct a credible election when one can’t go to them to register a political party, file reports or invite them to party conventions without inducing them with money.
“INEC is the headquarters of fraud,” he declared.
Commenting on his campaigns during the election, Adewole said he went to the nooks and crannies of the country and that even great Nigerians like Obafemi Awolowo and Nnamdi Azikiwe, at the height of their popularity, did not succeed in becoming president.
“The world hasn’t had more than nine people like Zik, yet he couldn’t win the election to become president of Nigeria,” he argued.
Speaking further on why he didn’t challenge the outcome of the presidential election in court, the SDP candidate said that it would have been a waste of time as not every wrong can be remedied by a court.
He said: “The court is not a place you go and complain in general terms.
“99% of wrongs in society cannot be remedied by the court. When you approach the court, you have to narrow your complaints down to specific legal issues. This is something that election petitioners must understand.”
Nigerian singer and record label boss, Afeez Fashola aka Naira Marley has taken to Instagram to dismiss reports that he had a hand in the death of his former signee, Ilerioluwa Aloba aka Mohbad.
He stated that he has no hand, directly or indirectly, in the demise of the 27-year-old Afrobeats star.
Naira Marley said he has not only been shocked by the passing of Mohbad but also by the ‘’lies and threats” issued against him.
He said that himself and Mohbad had their share of disagreements while working together but that it never degenerated into wishing each other death.
He said he has been out of the country since August 31 but is making plans to return following an invitation by the police who are currently investigating the death of late Mohbad. He said he is fully cooperating with the police team and has no reason to be a fugitive since he has no hand in the death of Mohbad.
Naira Marley said in due time the circumstances surrounding Mohbad’s death will be unveiled and the world will know the truth. He added that Mohbad left his record label in September 2022 and that his departure was well accepted. He dismissed claims that his label tried to stop Mohbad from working after he left.
He also stated that he is not a drug lord and that claims that his record label is a drug cartel are untrue. He added that he has never fought Mohbad nor instructed anyone to bully or attack Mohbad.
