“Nollywood now driven by BBL, not passion” – Bimbo Akintola

Veteran Nollywood actress Bimbo Akintola has shared her candid thoughts on the state of the Nigerian movie industry, lamenting that it is no longer driven by passion as it once was.

Speaking during an interview with fellow actress Ayo Adesanya, Akintola criticised the growing focus on physical appearance, makeup, and body enhancement surgeries over dedication to the craft.

She noted that, unlike the early days when actors were motivated by passion and hunger to tell stories, many of today’s stars are more concerned with glamour and outward looks.

“Now, people are saying, ‘My makeup isn’t right for this, and I can’t wear this.’ Is that what the film is about? We are more concerned about our outfits and how we look. This is why, generally, there is a spark in BBL. It is now about looks and not content or what one has. Looks will fade no matter what you do,“ she stated.

My Strategy On BBNaija Was Never About Cooking – Otega Says

Otega, the former BBNaija season 10 housemate, has addressed widespread speculation that his role as a cook in the house was a calculated game strategy.

The 32-year-old, who was evicted last Sunday alongside Kayinkunmi, clarified his intentions in a recent interview.

When questioned if he took on cooking duties to win favor with fellow housemates and viewers, Otega was unequivocal in his denial.

He stated that his true strategy was far simpler and more authentic: to be himself.

Otega emphasised that his behaviour in the house was a genuine reflection of his personality, shaped by life experience and a thoughtful nature.

“It was never my strategy. My strategy was never to go there and cook for anybody, it was why I was not cooking every day. My strategy was to go there and be myself,”
he said.

“Myself was what you saw. I am a very blunt person. I also try as much as possible to be wise because with age and life experiences comes wisdom.

“So I was not there to go and cook. I am a chef by profession, so I do not need to cook to get approval.”

Otega also spoke about the dynamics of this year’s show, while hailing the organisers decision to have 29 housemates.

“I think it is giving a good run, the producers know what they are doing and they are doing a great job. We can see from the response we are receiving outside. It has been an amazing experience, so yes pushing the limit is the goal of the show,”
he said.

Since we got to know each other, we’ve become very close. I have had the opportunity to work with them a lot because they are good producers. Sometimes, we even shoot at their house or their estate.

Most times when they’re working, Mide and I will sit and gist for a while because our chemistry is very tight. She’s a free-minded human being. She’s very cheerful; you can’t help but like her. “
