You Will Need Therapy When You Become Successful Musician – Zlatan Tells Upcoming Artistes

Rapper Zlatan Ibile has advised upcoming artistes to be ready to hire professional psychologists to help manage their mental health once they achieve success.

The Zanku crooner gave the advice via his social media page on Thursday.

He urged up-and-coming artists and their sponsors to prioritise therapy expenses alongside marketing budgets.

On his X handle, Zlatan wrote, “If you get brother or sister wey be fast rising artist and you believe say he or she go blow as una dey keep money for marketing and promo make una dey keep therapist money for one side tooo cos lol!!!”

His message reckoned with sentiments that the music industry is “emotionally tasking.”

On the years, several Nigerian musicians have spoken up about falling into depression while navigating the music industry.

Recall that in 2022, singer, Omah Lay shared via his X handle that his depression worsened after he had a sexual affair with his therapist.

Bring Back Five-Minute Songs – Oxlade Tells Colleagues

Afrobeats singer Ikuforiji Olaitan aka Oxlade has urged his colleagues in the Nigerian music industry to increase the duration of their songs.
He made the statement in a post on his X page on Thursday.
Writing on his page and wrote: “Bring back 5 minutes songs.”
His post resonated with many, who lent their voices to his advocacy in the comments section.
Recall that in recent years there has been a growing trend of short songs, usually within the range of two minutes and a few seconds, in the mainstream Nigerian music industry.
In contrast, South African Amapiano songs are usually within the range of seven minutes and above.
The trend of short songs, which was started by Wizkid and Mr Eazi, skyrocketed after newcomers such as Rema, Joeboy, Omah Lay, Ayra Starr and others joined in after debuting on the music scene in quick succession between 2019 and 2021.
Oxlade was also part of the trend in the past. His 2022 hit song, ‘Kulosa’, has a duration of 2 minutes and 31 seconds.

I Didn’t Betray You – Phyna Replies VeryDarkMan Over Campaign for Sister’s Treatment

Reality TV star, Phyna has replied activist VeryDarkMan (VDM) after he accused her of betraying him.
According to VDM, she sidelined him after initially using his influence to raise awareness about her sister’s medical condition.
He went further to reveal that Phyna took the decision after Dangote Group reportedly insisted they did not want his involvement in the case.
Reacting to the allegation, Phyna insisted that she never betrayed VDM.
According to her, she has been reaching out to VDM, but he has refused to answer his call.
She said:
“Which one is betrayal? I have been calling, he hasn’t been picking, he’s not replying my messages. What could I have done? I thought he was busy.”

Burna Boy, Davido, Ayra Starr, Others Nominated for AFRIMA 2025

Davido, Burna Boy, Shallipopi have been nominated for the 2025 All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA).
Burna Boy and Davido lead the pack with five nominations each, including Album of the Year for their respective albums “No Sign of Weakness” and “5ive”.
They’ll also compete in the Song of the Year and Best Collaboration categories.
Other notable nominees include Shallipopi, who scored four nominations, including Artiste of the Year and Song of the Year for his collaboration “Laho”.
Ayra Starr earned two nominations, including Artiste of the Year, where she’ll go up against Burna Boy, Davido, and Moroccan rapper El Grande Toto.
Other strong contenders include South Africa’s DJ Maphorisa with five nominations, Morocco’s El Grande Toto with five, Senegal’s Mia Guissé with five, and Ghana’s Moliy who also secured five.
Tanzania’s Diamond Platnumz, South Africa’s Tyla and Eswatini’s Uncle Waffles picked up four nominations each.
The awards ceremony will take place in Lagos from November 25 to 30, featuring various events such as the AFRIMA Music Village, Africa Music Business Summit, Nominees Party, and the grand finale on November 30.
The event will be broadcast live to over 84 countries, highlighting African music’s global impact.
AFRIMA jury member Delani Makhalima praised the nominees, saying, “For years our voices were not heard, but today African music is global. This is AFRIMA, the biggest music entity on the continent.”
The diversity of nominees, including artists from Nigeria, South Africa, Morocco, Senegal, Ghana, and the diaspora, reflects the richness and global reach of African music.

My Sister Has Not Woken Up For Days, Dangote Group Trying To Outsmart Us – Phyna Cries Out

Reality TV star Phyna Otabor has again called out the Dangote Group over her sister, Ruth Otabor’s condition.
According to her, Ruth is yet to regain consciousness following the accident involving Dangote Group cement truck in Auchi, Edo State.
Recall that the accident left Ruth with severe injuries, including the amputation of one leg and damage to several internal organs.
Giving an update, Phyna alleged that the Dangote Group was trying to avoid responsibility, saying the representative she had been in contact with has stopped responding to her messages.
“After the last message, he has refused to respond to messages. My sister has not woken up for days. Now she’s on life support. She’s on a vent machine, but he did not reply to me again.
 
“From what I was told by the medical team in Lagoon Hospital, my sister would be in the hospital for a very long time. That’s how badly they crushed her. That’s how bad it is,” she said.

Nigerian singer Tiwa Savage has stated that she feels hurt being away from her son, Jamil Balogun.
She stated further that sometimes, she’s forced to be away from her son due to work.
Speaking during a question-and-answer session with fans on 𝕏, the singer revealed that her son understands and supports her career.
An 𝕏 user had asked how she manages to balance her music career, especially working on her album, with spending time with her only son, Jam Jam.
He wrote: “As a single mum doing music you tend to travel a lot, shows, recording sessions. How do you combine music, especially your album, with spending time with your only son Jam Jam?”
Tiwa is currently in Tokyo, Japan replied: “My baby is the sweetest boy on earth, he totally understands mommy has to work. Being away from him hurts me so much, but my lil man is so understanding. And when we get to spend time together, we live life to the fullest. We’re currently in Tokyo, Japan having the time of our lives.”
