A resident from Oworonshoki and Idi Araba communities, located in the Kosofe and Mushin local government areas of Lagos State, is now mourning the loss of his pregnant wife and their newborn child after the Lagos State government, under the leadership of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, demolished their homes without offering alternative housing.

The victim said that his wife died on Friday as a result of high blood pressure following the demolition of their home and destruction of properties.

He added that since their home was demolished by the state government, his pregnant wife developed high blood pressure that never went down until her death.

DSS Detains Youth Leader Over Facebook Post ‘Injurious’ To Kaduna Accountant-General, Zuntu

A young man identified as Yusuf Yahuza Anchau, has been detained by officers of the Department of State Security (DSS), according to SaharaReporters.

He was detained over alleged “injurious comments” on the Accountant-General of Kaduna State, Bashir Suleiman Zuntu.

SaharaReporters gathered that Yusuf was arrested by the secret police four days ago following a petition by Zuntu accusing him of “cyberstalking and criminal character assassination.”

The youth leader in Kubau Local Government Area of the state had posted a document which contained names of people that were allegedly allocated lands by the accountant-general while he was chairman of the council.

Sources told SaharaReporters that Yusuf had been denied access to his family members and lawyers by the secret police since his detention.

“Our brother, Yusuf Yahuza Anchau from Kubau LGA of Kaduna State was arrested 4 days ago by DSS in Kubau LG but they later handed him to their headquarters in Kaduna.

“The reason for his arrest was that he made a post demanding accountability from Kubau LG chairman and his predecessor. Few days earlier, he posted one document of land allocation by the Former Kubau LG chairman and the current Accountant General of Kaduna, Bashir Zuntu.

“All attempt to get his bail proved to be abortive. The former chairman and current Accountant General is making the council like a military control zone whereby nobody has a right to question anything regarding the government.

“Two months ago, some youths from Pambegua town of Kubau LG were also arrested on orders of Zuntu because they posted that they didn’t support his policy of allocating GSS Pambegua land to his family and political allies.”

Another source said, “Yusuf had posted one document that contains the named of people that got land from the Accountant General when he was the chairman of Kubau LGA. Among the beneficiaries was his wife; so he ordered DSS to arrest Yusuf Yahuza.

“Last two months, the Accountant General also ordered the arrest of some youths from Pambegua just because they posted on their Facebook that they’re against his decision of encroaching on the Government Secondary School’s land. The land he distributed to his family and political allies belongs to GSS Pambegua, that’s why he’s very angry about the release of that document that contains the names of the beneficiaries.”

In Nigeria, there have been increasing cases of arrests and harassment of social media users, often on the orders of politicians.

I Didn’t Seek Job Under Tinubu – Obasanjo Denies Meeting President At Alake’s Birthday

Olusegun Obasanjo, a former President of Nigeria, has refuted the claims that he met President Bola Tinubu in Abeokuta on Thursday.

A viral video surfaced on the social media where it was alleged that Obasanjo and Tinubu met at the 80th birthday of the Alake of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo and promised to work for him if he offered him a job.

Reacting to the viral video on Saturday, Obasanjo described the video as fake, disjointed and sickening.

In a statement by his media aide, Kehinde Akinyemi, Obasanjo condemned the video, saying the banter conversation took place between him and Tinubu when he played host to the former Lagos State governor in 2022, before the country’s 2023 general elections.

The statement quoted Obasanjo as saying that, “one, I have not seen Bola Tinubu since he visited me in my house in Abeokuta, when he was campaigning. Secondly, I was at the church and not the reception for Alake’s 80th birthday reception.”

The statement explained further that, “during Tinubu’s visit to his house last year, he met the former President playing his favorite traditional game (ayo) and he started the banter, jokingly telling the former President that, he was shocked to see him playing the Ayo game at that time of the day.

“Spontaneously, as he was getting up from his chair to welcome him and other accompanying visitors, Obasanjo responded: “when I don’t have job. If you are ready to give me job, I am ready to do it.”

This, Akinyemi said, was contrary to the meaning the viral video is putting out.

Akinyemi quoted Obasanjo as saying that, “I am not looking for work and I am not working with anyone as the fake news puts out. Those who are looking for people to work with Bola Tinubu should look outside Obasanjo.”
