Deborah’s Killing: Jatau Released After 18 months In Detention

Rhoda Jatau, the Bauchi state resident who condemned the heinous killing of Samuel Deborah in Sokoto State, has regained freedom after 18 months in detention.

Sources indicate that her release, which occurred late Friday, was facilitated by the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, the Nigeria Inter-Religious Council, NIREC, and the Christian Solidarity Worldwide Nigeria, CSWN.

Jatau, a mother of five, was remanded since May 2022 on blasphemy charges for sharing a video condemning the brutal lynching of Deborah, a 200-level student at Shehu Shagari College of Education in Sokoto.

Although her bail conditions were not disclosed, it was gathered that the Inter-Religious Council played a vital role in securing Jatau’s release.

The prolonged detention of Jatau sparked an outcry from the Christian community in Nigeria, prompting swift action by CAN, NIREC, and CSWN.

How I Almost Quit Nollywood Over S3xual Harrassment – Mercy Aigbe

Popular Nigerian actress and filmmaker, Mercy Aigbe Adeoti has opened up on how she almost left the movie industry over s3xual harassment.

The movie star, in a recent interview with ‘Your View’, a talk show on TVC, said a producer made passes at her after a movie audition despite earning the role for the upcoming film.

Mercy added that though she had other challenges in the industry, she made her way to the top through consistency.

She said, “I once met a producer in Surulere, and I expressed to him how much I would love to act. He told me he had an upcoming film, and invited me to his office for an audition. I passed three stages of the audition. After the last audition, I was given a minor role. I told him that was not the character I was auditioning for, and he replied that the director said he did not know me, and that was why he said I should be close to him (the producer).

“He had been making passes at me before then, but he did not come out clean to me until that day. He then stood up and tried to touch me. I was very upset, and I told him he could not do that to me, because I had earned the role.

That was a huge insult to my person, and I thought if that was what it took to be an actress, I did not want to be an actress anymore. I tore the script and eventually left. On my way home, I cried because I had left a well-paying job to join Nollywood, and I was already a single mother at the time.”

Gov Adeleke Offsets Salary Debt Owed To Osun Civil Servants

Osun State Governor, Sen Ademola Adeleke has reportedly paid off the half-salary debt owed to civil servants in the state by the previous administration.

Adeleke noted that the debt was accumulated during the administration of Rauf Aregbesola, but that no action was taken to resolve the issue during the tenure of the immediate past governor, Adegboyega Oyetola.

In a statement released by the governor’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, it was revealed that this is the fourth payment made since Adeleke assumed office.

The statement also highlighted that the governor had previously approved a phased payment approach to address the 30-month half salaries debt.

Additionally, a similar agreement has been reached with pensioners to settle a significant outstanding pension and gratuity amounting to N75 billion.

However, Governor Adeleke has emphasised proactive measures taken upon assuming office, including the issuance of a circular on phased payment by the Head of Service under his directive

“I revealed in several rallies last year that our administration would swing to action and activate the payment process once elected.

“I acted when we assumed office and we came up with a circular on the phased payment issued by the Head of Service on my instruction.

“I want to assure workers that we will stick to the circular. The implementation will continue unabated alongside other welfare packages for both active workers and retirees.

“I am committed to the implementation of the payment of palliative allowances recently approved by me for both workers and pensioners across the state, including local government workers,” Adeleke said.

Nigerians Should Have No Business With Poverty – Catholic Bishop

The Catholic Bishop of Ekiti Diocese, Most Rev. Felix Ajakaye has tackled Nigerian political leaders.
According to him, with the abundance resources the country is blessed with, Nigerians should not have any business with poverty.
Ajakaye noted that governments at the state and federal levels should put in place measures to ensure that Nigerians live dignified lives.
The bishop made the remarks in his welcome address at the graduation ceremony of vocational skills trainees and distribution of Start-Up Kits for 400 persons trained by Caritas Nigeria in Ekiti State.
“Nigerians have no reason to be poor, but sadly enough, we are still far away from good governance.

“If we want to eradicate poverty in Nigeria we can do it, but our government and citizens must mean it. It is not about the government alone, let everybody be involved in the process.

“Government should be able to provide an enabling environment, where people can be able to help themselves, and create an environment where people can learn skills.

“Citizens on their own should be willing to take up their responsibilities. Government cannot cater for all, but if you show your skills and develop interest, it will be better for society,” the bishop said.

I Wished For Death After Failed Cosmetic Surgery – Transgender Jay Boogie

Daniel Anthony Nsikan, the popular Nigerian transgender, who is better known as Jay Boogie, has said he wished for death after suffering complications following a botched cosmetic surgery.

He said his health condition worsened to the point that he had to undergo dialysis every day to be able to pass out urine.

Speaking in a recent chat with media personality, Chude Jideonwo, Jay Boogie said he was also receiving death threats via social media because some of his friends took pictures of him in his hospital bed and lied that he needed public assistance to fund a kidney transplant.

He said, “People that I thought were my friends came into the hospital and took pictures of me and sent to the bloggers. It was becoming so annoying that the bullying online was even too much. I was receiving death threats. People will come to my DM and be like, ‘You never still die?’ So, I decided to stay off the media for a while.

“I wasn’t the one that sent out my pictures on social media. It was my friends. I’m a discreet person. I don’t like flaunting things. I love living a low-key life. Because nobody cares about you. You should care about yourself.

“So, I mean, with the dramas going online, people bullying me saying, ‘How man go go do nyansh.’ Can you even imagine the mentality? Do you even see me as a man? This is something I want for myself. And I’m sure that if I were to be any of their siblings they won’t tell me that they won’t feel the pains I’m going through. I started going to dialysis every day just so I can pass out urine. My legs were swollen. The urine was very high. At that point, I was measuring my intake of water. Before I go for dialysis they will check my weight and I will be weighing 100 and something. Every day, I would be going for dialysis, they will be taking out my blood and all that. It was hurting that I sat down and said, ‘God abeg, I am just tired. I just want to go [die]. What am I even doing? Who send me to come do this nyansh sef?”
