Ballon d’Or: He Didn’t Perform – Thierry Henry Snubs Vinicius Jr For Award

Thierry Henry, a former Arsenal captain, has said Manchester City’s Rodri should win the 2024 Ballon d’Or ahead of Vinicius Junior, the Real Madrid winger.

Henry was speaking on CBS Sports on Tuesday night, after watching Vinicius score a hat-trick in the 5-2 win over Borussia Dortmund.

When asked by presenter Kate Abdo who he wanted to win the Ballon d’Or, Henry said he would prefer a midfielder.

His words: “Rodri because I wanted the Xavi and the [Andres] Iniesta when they were performing, people forget about the midfielders and what they do and they’re the heart of the team and he was the heart of Man City. I know they didn’t win the Champions League but he won the Euros.

“Vinicius Jr didn’t perform at the Copa America.

“But is he a worthy winner? Yes. He’s outstanding. I keep on saying, for me, right now, as a forward, the best in the world so he deserves it.”

Living in Nigeria Becoming Harder – Timaya Laments

Singer Inetimi Alfred Odom aka Timaya, has cried out over the current suffering and hardship in the country.
According to him, even though the economic hardship is a global phenomenon, it’s more severe in Nigeria than anywhere else.
Timaya spoke in a recent interview with Channels Television.
“Things are really hard. I feel it for people because if people are not happy, I can’t be happy, too. I pay bills. I help a lot of people. So I understand what people are going through. I’m also feeling it [the hardship],” he lamented.

“My staff’s salaries and upkeep for family members have drastically increased because of the high cost of living.

“You don’t expect things to be normal. Even politicians are crying, too, not to talk of me. The only way you can meet up with the current economic demands is if you’re earning in dollars. If you’re earning forex and you convert it to naira, that’s how you can ball.

“Even in America right now, things are still hard there because they’re earning in dollars and spending in dollars. It’s hard everywhere. The world is hard right now, but Nigeria is harder.”
Timaya also spoke on the effects of the current economic hardship on the entertainment industry.
“Currently, you need a lot of money to promote music. Before, we didn’t even bother about shooting music videos. Even if we were shooting a video, it cost just N1.5 million.

“Now, just to shoot one video: 100 million, 50 million, 60 million. And when you shoot the video, to promote it, you need more millions. That’s why booking fees for artists now are expensive,” he said

Abort Japa Plans, Fight For Better Nigeria – Femi Kuti

Renowned singer Femi Kuti has begged young Nigerians not ‘japa.’
According to him, they should stay in the country and improve it.
Speaking at the 2024 Felebration festival, Kuti emphasised that developed countries like Europe and America fought for their freedom, highlighting their histories of civil wars and struggles.
He stressed that Nigeria’s youths should recognise their responsibility to improve their own country.
Kuti noted that iconic landmarks like the Fela Shrine were built in Africa, not abroad, and even those with dual citizenship contribute to Nigeria’s growth, citing his son, Made Kuti as an example.
He said: “People have asked me, ‘Shey you no go japa?’ Japa to where?”

“Let me tell you about Europe; you see Europe and what made it great. Do you think they ran away? No, they fought; Europe fought hundreds of civil wars; dem just dey kill themselves. America had one of the worst civil wars in history, which is why till today Americans still carry guns.

“We must understand that we have to stay here and fight for a better country that we love. We did not build the Fela Shrine in Los Angeles or in London; we built it in Africa. Get your senses together because this country depends on you.

“Made is a British citizen but where is he? He is in Nigeria and he cannot be anywhere else. What does he want to do there? If they call him for work, he’d go there to play and come back. Who would take over the shrine? I want to retire.”

Vinicius Jr Is Going To Win The Ballon D’or – Ancelotti

Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has revealed the player to win this year’s Ballon d’Or.
Ancelotti tipped Vinicius Junior to win the award following his superb performance against Borussia Dortmund after the Brazilian forward scored a second-half hat-trick to help them fight back from two goals down in the Champions League.
Ancelotti told a news conference he was convinced that the 24-year-old Vinicius would win the Ballon d’Or award for the best player in the world.
“What I can say is that it’s rare to see a player who plays a second half like Vinicius did. And not because of the three goals but because of his character; he’s extraordinary,” Ancelotti said on Tuesday.
“Vinicius is going to win [the Ballon d’Or], not for what he did tonight, but for what he did last year. These three goals are already going to count for next year’s Ballon d’Or, that’s for sure. He is a player who gets whistled at because he can make a difference.”
In a rematch of last season’s final, Ancelotti said there was no panic in the changing room after Real went into the half-time break two goals down, and that his side had the maturity and experience to understand what they needed to do to come back.
“We lived it calmly, calmly [over the break]. We changed the system and came back playing more intensely,” Ancelotti said.

“Talking about scoring three goals might have seemed utopian, so we talked about small details like passing well, winning duels … We had to win the dynamic of the game, and from there you start to win the game.

“We were timid in the first half, we weren’t intense on the ball and in the second half, we did better with more quality, more pressure. It was the best second half of the season.

“We have to learn from what we did in the second half. The aim is to start the game and not wait for them to put two past us. I don’t think we can play 90 minutes with the intensity of the second half but we can be more balanced.”

How Bobrisky’s Attempt to Cross Nigerian Border to Seme Failed – Witnesses

An eyewitness has revealed how popular crossdresser, Idris Okuneye, also known as Bobrisky, was arrested at Seme Border on Monday.
The witness shared the information with NAN.
According to the witness, Bobrisky arrived at the departure axis of the border post around 1.30am on Monday in a black Mercedes Benz SUV.
According to the sources, Bobrisky was first stopped by Port Health officials on duty but the driver didn’t stop until he got to the Immigration checkpoint.

“Idris handed over his passport to the driver for stamping at the Nigeria Immigration Service, NIS post.

“The immigration surveillance officer, identified as Yusuf, while going through the passport, detected that the person inside the vehicle was Bobrisky.

“He called the most senior officer on duty to the scene and they secretly invited the Controller of Immigration, Seme Command, Mr Muhammad Adamu, to the scene.

“The surveillance officer then went back to invite Bobrisky for capture to stamp the passport.

“On getting to the surveillance unit for capturing, he was taken to the controller’s office for questioning,” a source told NAN.
Another source told NAN that Bobrisky’s lawyer later came to Seme to inquire why he was arrested by the personnel of the immigration command.
“Bobrisky stayed inside the controller’s office until 4.00 pm when he was taken to Lagos State Command of NIS for further investigation,” the source said.
Recall that NIS on Monday confirmed the arrest of Bobrisky at the Seme Border.
The Public Relations Officer of the Service, Mr Kenneth Udo, said Bobrisky was arrested because he “is a person of interest over recent issues of public concern”.
Udo, in a statement issued in Abuja, said: “In keeping with its commitment to securing the borders, NIS intercepted Bobrisky at the Seme Border over an attempt to exit the country.
He said that Bobrisky was undergoing interrogation and would be handed over to the appropriate authorities for further action.

Timaya Reveals Why He Admires Portable

Singer Timaya has opened up that he admires Portable.
According to him, the reason is because there are similarities between them.
Timaya spoke in a recent interview with Channels Television.
Timaya reflected on his past, acknowledging his reputation as a troublemaker and crediting his unconventional approach for his success.
He said: “That’s why I like Portable; the first time he came out, I told 2face about him on the way to Delta State. I said to him, ‘Have you heard that guy Portable?’ Zazu Zeh. That guy is just like me because I was a crazy guy.”

The singer acknowledged that while today’s Gen Z audience may see him as ‘unproblematic,’ they might not realise the wild side of his early career.
“These Gen Z’s don’t know now so sometimes when I talk, some people would be like Timaya is unproblematic. I just look at them like, if only they knew me. They say ‘Timaya minds his business’ and I say hmm. It’s now I have calmed down, I was crazy then. I was really really really crazy I was hot like fire but I think there’s growth. At the time it was a strategy for me,” he said.
He also addressed a rumor from his early career, clarifying that a reported negative encounter with military personnel was untrue.
According to him: “The story about me having a negative encounter with military men is untrue. Why would I get involved with them?

” I’m not trying to shade or disrespect anybody, but in whatever you do, you must apply wisdom or sense.

“No matter how crazy I was, it was all a strategy, even though I was crazy. I blew in the industry because at the time everyone was singing love songs and I’m from the Niger Delta, so I didn’t come as a lover boy.”

Libya vs Nigeria Saga: CAF President, Motsepe Gives Update

Confederation of African Football, CAF President, Patrice Motsepe has reacted to the inhumane treatment of the Super Eagles of Nigeria by Libyan authorites.
He spoke at CAF’s 46th Ordinary General Assembly in Addis Ababa, on Tuesday.
Motsepe also revealed that appropriate action will be taken at the end of the investigation.
Recall that Super Eagles players and their officials were subjected to harsh treatment in Libya ahead of their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON, qualifier in the October International break.
The team’s flight to Benghazi was diverted to a small airport, Al Abraq, away from Benghazi Airport and the players were held captive for over 15 hours without food, water and internet access.

“We should have zero tolerance. When there was this problem of the Nigerian national team in Libya, I will not comment on that because there is a proper investigation,” Motesepe said.
“But I want to emphasise a principle that we will not tolerate. This is something that has been going on for quite some time.

“Forget about the Libya vs Nigeria situation; forget about that; appropriate action will be taken. I have heard too many stories about a football club or national team that goes to a country.”
