BREAKING: Nationwide Blackout Looms As Nigerian Electricity Workers Begin Strike

Nigerians could face power outages in the coming days as the National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE) on Wednesday began a strike over the non-implementation of the national minimum wage, casualisation of workers, and other unresolved demands.

The industrial action was disclosed in a notice signed by the Acting General Secretary of NUEE, Dominic Igwebike, on Wednesday.

The union said its decision to commence the strike action follows the expiration of the ultimatum issued to the Management of the Transmission Company of Nigeria,TCN, over its demands.

NUEE said it cannot fold its hands while the Nigeria Electricity Supply Industry, NESI, goes down the drain, hence the justification for the strike action.

“It is unfortunate that the TCN Management has decided to handle these issues with kid gloves and a lack of regard for the hard-working staff of TCN. This, they have displayed without any defined road map(s) to addressing them.

“We cannot continue to fold our arms while we watch our rights being vehemently violated and the Nigeria Electricity Supply Industry (NESI) going down the drain. To this end, the Union is compelled to withdraw its services.

“Members are hereby directed to withdraw services until such time that the management is ready to discharge its obligations towards the workforce,” the notice reads.

The union had downed tools in June 2024, leading to a disruption in electricity supply.

Meanwhile, spokesperson of TCN, Ndidi Mbah, is yet to respond to an enquiry from DAILY POST at the time of filing this report.

Full text of the NUEE strike notice:

A CALL TO ACTION

Following the expiration of the Union’s ultimatum to TCN Management over some staff welfare and operational issues, which include:

1. Non-implementation of National Minimum Wage

2. Casualisation of Workers

3. Non-provision of working tools and materials 4. Non-payment of staff salaries since April 2025

5. Lack of Operational Vehicles

6. Non-provision of PPEs since 2021

7. Issues arising from the unbundling of TCN

8. Non-payment of retirement benefits

It is unfortunate that the TCN Management has decided to handle these issues with kid gloves and a lack of regard for the hard-working staff of TCN. This, they have displayed without any defined road map(s) to addressing them.

We cannot continue to fold our arms while we watch our rights being vehemently violated and the Nigeria Electricity Supply Industry (NESI) going down the drain. To this end, the Union is compelled to withdraw its services.

Members are hereby directed to withdraw services until such time that the management is ready to discharge its obligations towards the workforce.

This directive takes immediate effect and requires total compliance.

Nigeria’s Efe Ajagba Enters Boxing Top 10 As Anthony Joshua Drops Out

The heavyweight division is once again making headlines as The Ring magazine, a leading authority in boxing rankings, has released its latest list, revealing significant changes at the top.

At the summit remains Oleksandr Usyk, the reigning champion, whose clinical skills and historic victories have cemented his place as the man to beat.

Right behind him is Tyson Fury at No. 1, still considered the biggest threat to Usyk after their unforgettable clash.

Joseph Parker continues his resurgence by climbing to No. 2, while Germany’s Agit Kabayel breaks into the top three, shaking up the traditional order. Daniel Dubois and Filip Hrgovic, both hungry young lions, take the fourth and fifth spots, proving the next generation of heavyweights is coming on strong.

Further down the list, Britain’s Fabio Wardley holds steady at No. 6, followed by the dangerous Chinese powerhouse Zhilei Zhang at No. 7. Congo’s Martin Bakole comes in at No. 8, with teenage sensation Moses Itauma breaking into the top ten at No. 9, showing that youth is beginning to shape the future of the division.

But perhaps the biggest talking point is Nigeria’s own Efe Ajagba, who re-enters the rankings at No. 10. Known for his devastating knockout power, Ajagba has battled his way back into contention, and his presence signals that African boxing still has a strong voice in the heavyweight picture.

In a surprising twist, Anthony Joshua drops out of the rankings altogether. Once a dominant force and global superstar, Joshua has been inactive for over a year, and inactivity has cost him his place in the top ten.

You Buy House In Prime Location, Only To Get Trapped Indoors – Enioluwa Laments Lagos Flooding

Influencer Enioluwa Adeoluwa has called on the Lagos state government to tackle the issue of flooding in the state.
This is as he lamented that flood has taken over many prime locations in Lagos following days of raining.
In a post on X, Eniola said lamented that after working hard to buy a home in a desirable area, residents still find themselves trapped indoors once heavy rain begins because the surrounding streets quickly flood.
He wrote: “In this part of the world, money doesn’t guarantee comfort. You hustle hard, buy a house in what’s called a prime location, yet the moment it rains, you’re trapped indoors because everywhere outside is flooded.”
He was reacting after heavy rainfall left many parts of Lagos submerged, with communities such as Maryland, Lekki, Ogba, Ikorodu, Ago Palace Way, Apple Junction, and Mile 2 badly affected.
The Lagos State Government apologised to residents, attributing the flooding to factors including heavy rainfall, tidal lock, and illegal structures blocking drainage systems.
Commissioner of Environment, Tokunbo Wahab, in a tweet, explained that in some areas, technical issues in the drainage network made water flow difficult, especially where downstream points sit higher than existing channels.
He also blamed illegal construction on floodplains and waste dumping for worsening the situation.
