See How Nigerians Reacted After Appeal Court Reinstated Adeleke As Osun Governor

Nigerians have reacted after the Appeal Court on Friday upheld the election of Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State.

The Appeal Court set aside the decision of the Osun State Governorship tribunal which sacked Adeleke as the governor of the state and affirmed the victory of Adeleke.

Recall that the former governor of the state and candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Gboyega Oyetola, had challenged Adeleke’s victory in the July 16 governorship election, before the election petition tribunal in Osun state.

The tribunal led by Justice Tertse Kume, in a split judgement of 2 to 1, sacked Adeleke based on irregularities in 744 polling units across ten local government areas of the state.

It canceled the alleged illegal votes and declared Oyetola the winner on legally valid votes.

The tribunal had also ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to withdraw the certificate of return issued to Adeleke and issue it to Oyetola.

In a ruling on Friday, the court ruled that the APC and Oyetola failed to prove its over-voting case against Adeleke.

Following the development, netizens took to the micro-blogging platform, Twitter to express their reactions to the ruling of the appellate court.

See some of the reactions below.

@ManLikeIcey wrote: “CONFIRMED: Governor of Osun State, Senator Ademola Adeleke remains Governor of the State. The appeal court ruled in his favor. Congratulations to the great people of Osun State.”

@Shakur_Dml wrote: “I think Oyetola should rest at this point. He lost and it’s clear the people don’t want him.”

@great_igie wrote: “The people’s governor has been reinstated. Congratulations to Osun State.”

@66612Umoh wrote: “Great! This is good for our democracy, congratulations Mr governor!”

@DaddyboyI wrote: “Very Good judgment for our democracy.”

@toninny wrote: “Oyetola go Supreme Court, let them disqualify you once more so you can allow Adeleke to face his job.”

@iamLABOD wrote: “That is the will of God and that is the will of the Osun masses too. If not for rigging, this man should be doing his second-year tenure now. Osun people want him, and he is performing for them already. So, therefore, let no man worry Imole again.”

@Alexander11426 wrote: “Congratulations Gov. Adeleke. We hope and pray for victory for Peter Obi also. Amen.“

How Governor Adeleke Won at Appeal Court, Oyetola Fined N500,000

The Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja on Friday slammed N500,000 fine on the All Progressives and its candidate, Gboyega Oyetola as it set aside the tribunal judgment that nullified the election of Ademola Adeleke as governor of Osun State.
The unanimous decision was given by a three-member panel of justices, led by Justice Mohammed Lawal.
Adeleke to challenge his sack by the Osun State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal was meritorious.
The court also held that the sum of N500,000 is awarded as a cost against the All Progressive Congress and its candidate, Gboyega Oyetola.
During the ruling, the justice resolved that the preponderance of proof that there was over-voting in the elections rested on the petitioner.
The court also maintained that “the party alleging non-compliance with the electoral act must prove its case without merely relying on the weakness of the other party.”
Delivering judgment, Justice Mohammed Shaibu overruled the judgment of the governorship election tribunal that nullified the outcome of the July governorship polls.
The three-man panel revoked the tribunal’s order which directed that a Certificate of Return be withdrawn from Adeleke and issued to his predecessor and All Progressives Congress candidate, Oyetola.
The Osun tribunal had annulled Adeleke’s victory and affirmed Gboyega Oyetola of All Progressives Congress as the authentic winner of the poll.
The Independent National Electoral Commission had returned Adeleke as the winner of the poll.
INEC said Adeleke polled 403,371 votes to defeat then-incumbent Governor Adegboyega Oyetola of the APC, who got 375,027 votes
But Oyetola and the APC rejected the result of the poll and headed for the tribunal.
In its January 27, 2023 majority verdict, the Justice Tertse Kume-led tribunal annulled Adeleke’s victory and declared Oyetola the winner of the poll.
However, a minority judgment by Justice B. Ogbuli affirmed Adeleke as the winner of the poll.
Displeased, Adeleke and the PDP headed for the Court of Appeal.
The Court of Appeal heard the appeal on March 13 and reserved its judgment.
But the court of Appeal on Friday set aside the tribunal judgement.

Harry Kane breaks England’s all-time goalscoring record

Tottenham legend, Harry Kane on Thursday night, smashed England’s all-time goalscoring record after converting a penalty in the 2-1 win against Italy.

Harry Kane netted his 54th goal for the Three Lions from the penalty spot to seal his name in history. He and Wayne Rooney had been tied on 53 goals heading into Thursday’s match.

Kane reached the milestone in his 81st appearance for England, 39 fewer games than the current DC United manager. His goal made it 2-0 for Gareth Southgate’s side after Declan Rice netted the opener against the reigning European champions.

Speaking after the game, Kane said:

“I was on the pitch when Wayne broke the record and I know what it meant to him and how proud I was. When I presented him the boot for breaking the record, he said he’d be giving it back to me one day. He’s a special guy, and England legend.”

Wayne Rooney has also paid tribute to Harry Kane. He tweeted;

“Congratulations to @HKane on becoming @England’s all-time leading goalscorer. I knew it wouldn’t take long but that was quick. Great man, unbelievable goalscorer and an England legend. Congrats Harry”

Rooney offered a lengthier tribute to Kane in The Times. He wrote;

“When I broke the England goalscoring record, with a penalty against Switzerland in September 2015, Harry Kane was the first player to run over and celebrate with me. I later mentioned Harry in the speech I made in the dressing room.

“I said that I hoped the young players in the squad would come close to the record themselves, and even be able to surpass me. Harry had scored only three England goals at that point — but I said those words because I knew he could do it. Even then, with only four caps under his belt, I knew he could become England’s greatest scorer if he kept going the way he was and I wanted to give him encouragement.

“I am delighted for him, for his family, and for the England team now he has done it, having scored his 54th England goal against Italy on Thursday night. Knowing Harry, it’s not something that will go to his head. He will kick on and, in fact, I believe that when he stops playing he will leave the England record in a place where it will be very difficult for someone else to break it.

“He wants to be like Poland’s Robert Lewandowski, a goal machine who is still at the very top in his mid-thirties, and he has it in him to make that happen. I think Harry will finish with an England goals total well into the seventies.”

The UK-born singer explained having lived overseas most of her life, she made her decision to return to Nigeria to forge a path and she wasn’t ready to derail on her mission by throwing in the towel and zooming off to her birth country.
Vee, describing herself as adventurous and a risk taker, said she has so far enjoyed every ounce of her stay in Nigeria especially as a resident of Lagos seeing she loved the ‘chaos’ that characterises the state.
She made these known in the the latest episode of “Me, Her and Everything Else” on ‘Hurt People, Hurt People’ with Stephanie Coker.
On having thought about ‘japaing’ back to the UK, Vee said: “I feel like almost everyday, I ask myself, why am I still here? But it different for me. I was born and raised there, my family is there. I’ve lived my whole life there. I’m a risk taker. I’m an adventurous person.

“When I said I wanted to come to Nigeria and figure things out, I wanna see it through. I don’t think I’m tired yet.

“I unfortunately love the beautiful chaos of Lagos; I don’t know why. But I feel like the same thing applies to people that have lived in Lagos their whole lives and they want to leave. I don’t blame them.

“I’ve seen a whole life and I feel like at this stage, being in Nigeria for now is okay with me. As long as I can still function here, still make some certain moves; yeah why not?! I don’t think I’m tired yet.”

Portuguese football star, Joao Cancelo has recounted the pain of losing a Champions League final to a Chelsea team led by Thomas Tuchel, who has now been appointed as the manager of Bayern Munich.

The Blues defeated Manchester City to win the Champions League in 2021, few months after Tuchel was appointed as manager of the team.

Cancelo who was one of the regular starters at Manchester City at the time, is now hoping to create more positive memories in 2023 with his new boss.

Thomas Tuchel set to become new Bayern Munich manager

Thomas Tuchel will soon be announced as the next manager of Bayern Munich following the sack of Julian Nagelsmann on Thursday, March 23.

Thomas Tuchel set to become new Bayern Munich manager

Nagelsmann was axed after Bayern lost 2-1 at Bayer 04 Leverkusen on Sunday, March 19, allowing Dortmund to move to the top of the Bundesliga table.

The 35-year-old took charge in 2021 and led Bayern to their 10th German title in a row last season, but they have been unable to replicate that form, and the hierarchy have acted ahead of the Champions League quarter-finals next month.

Popular journalist Fabrizio Romano reported that Bayern already has a full agreement in place with Tuchel, with final documents being prepared on Thursday night.

The former Chelsea boss will be seeking to repeat the feat he achieved upon taking over mid-season at Stamford Bridge. Tuchel won the Champions League with Chelsea, just months into his tenure. He will inherit a talented squad that has underperformed domestically since losing Robert Lewandowski last summer.

Tuchel was sacked by the Blues at the beginning of the Premier League campaign and replaced by Graham Potter. Since then, he has been linked to several jobs, including Real Madrid, where Carlo Ancelotti is reportedly on the brink of an exit.

Should Bayern beat Manchester City, they could face Chelsea in the semi-finals if the Blues get past Real Madrid; meaning Tuchel would come up against his replacement Graham Potter on the touchline just months after his dismissal.
