Go to court – Zenith Bank responds Lady whose N4m vanished from her account reveals names of fraudsters.

Chiamaka Agim, a Lagos State resident and former Zenith Bank employee, has complained that over N4 million mysteriously vanished from her Zenith Bank account.

On Tuesday, January 10, 2023, the lady narrated her ordeal in a video posted to her Twitter page.

She claimed she was relaxing in her apartment on the evening of January 9, 2023, when she received three debit alerts totaling N4.039 million.

The Lagos resident also stated that she opened the bank account, which was empty of all her savings, while working at Zenith Bank.

“When I received the first alert around 8.25, I actually thought it was a WhatsApp message. I checked it and was shocked to see that it was an alert of N3.715 million,” she said.

“I was confused because I did not authorise any transaction, so I logged in to my bank app to check what was happening. That was when I got another debit alert of N222,000 and then I got the third one of N102,000.

Agim further said that Zenith Bank officials did not take her complaint seriously when she reported the incident at two branches of the bank in the Yaba area of the state on Tuesday.

She said was asked to write a letter of complaint, which she did and submitted at each Zenith Bank branch.

Meanwhile, Zenith Bank responding to the lady’s plight has written a two-page letter to one of its customers who watched over N4 million vanish from her account in 20 minutes.

In a response letter signed by Anyar Ikwor, Internal Control Unit, Zenith Bank noted it can only recover a sum of N800,500 out of the missing sum.

Ayim had earlier narrated that was called around 6 pm on Tuesday, 10 January 2023 by a bank official who notified her during the phone conversation that the transaction was done via her e-token.

The bank official further enquired that she must have given out the token pin. However, Ayim said she has never applied for a token or has one linked to her account.

The Zenith bank customer explain that the bank official informed her that the 4 million transactions were sent to two accounts.

N3.71 million was sent to one Isah on Monday, 9, January 2022 at 8.28 pm, the same account received another N222,900 three minutes later. While another Abdulraham Sani received N102,000 15 minutes late at 8.48 pm.

This is not the first time this incident will be occurring in the Nigerian banking sector.

In December 2021, Punch reports that only four top banks recorded a total of 477,405 unresolved customer complaints and most are related to fraud.

The banks are Zenith, Guaranty Trust Bank, United Bank for Africa, and Access Bank.

The reports also revealed that the number of unresolved complaints carried forward by the banks in 2021 grew by 172,399 from 305,791 recorded in December 2020.

For Zenith bank, a total of 166,314 complaints remained unresolved as of December 2021. This figure is almost double the amount recorded in 2021 (83,899).

After being detained for hours, the EFCC releases Doyin Okupe.

Doyin Okupe, a former director general of the Labour Party Presidential Campaign Council (PCC), was freed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) a few hours after being detained at the Lagos airport.

It was previously stated that Okupe was detained by the Department of State Services (DSS) on January 12, 2023, in the morning at Lagos’ Muritala Mohammed International Airport.

After the former presidential adviser was found guilty of money laundering by the Federal High Court (FHC), Abuja, the DSS requested documentation of the court proceedings in which he chose to pay a fine.

Subsequently, he was handed over to the EFCC.

Confirming the report of Okupe’s arrest, Dr Peter Afunanya, DSS Public Relations Officer confirmed that the former Director-General of the Labour Party Presidential Campaign Council was intercepted by the DSS at Terminal 1 of Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos.

The politician, who was born in Ogun, was furious about it. He claims that EFCC representatives then expressed regret for embarrassing him.

“Doyin Okupe was intercepted by the DSS at Terminal 1 of Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos this morning at the instance of the EFCC.
“He has long been handed over to the Commisson which requested for the action. “Okupe was billed to fly to London via Virgin Atlantic” He said.

Doyin Okupe is arrested by the DSS in Lagos.

Doyin Okupe, a former director-general of Peter Obi’s Labour Party (LP), has been arrested by Department of State Service operatives (DSS).

One of the lawyers, of Doyin Okupe, Tolu Babaleye disclosed that he was arrested at the Muritala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos on Thursday.

Doyin Okupe was arrested by the Department of State Service while on his way to London for medical treatment, according to his lawyer, Tolu Babaleye.

According to a statement issued by Lawyer Tolu Babaleye, the politician was asked to provide evidence demonstrating that the Federal High Court in Abuja cleared him of all charges in the money laundering case for which he was recently convicted and given the option of paying a fine.

He wrote: “The information reaching me now is that Dr. Doyin Okupe has been arrested at Lagos Airport by the DSS on his way to London.

“The reason according to the source is that he was asked to produce evidence that the Federal High Court Abuja has freed him from the case in which he was convicted and paid a fine to the knowledge of the whole world and was allowed to go home.

“When will this harassment stop? Who is after Dr. Doyin Okupe? As of today, the man has no case to answer anywhere, I hereby demand that the DSS should release my Client immediately as it is a violation of his freedom of movement, right to liberty, and dignity as a human person.

“This is unfair as the man’s health is fast failing!”

“Go to Oyo and eat their yam,” a Nigerian doctor advises a woman who wants twins, giving her a year.

A young doctor on Twitter known as @the _beardedsina advised a woman who wished for twins.

According to him, anyone in need of twins should visit Igboora in Oyo state and eat their yam.

He claimed that the yam contains clomiphene, which stimulates women’s ovaries to produce twins.

He said that this does not only occur in humans, but also in animals such as goats, sheep, and cows.

Students at a Nigerian university are required to wear faculty uniforms.

Students at Godfrey Okoye University in Enugu have been ordered to wear their faculty uniforms from now on.

Christian Anieke, the university’s vice-chancellor, issued the order on Tuesday, January 10. According to him, the move became critical in order to prevent students from dressing inappropriately.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria, Annie said this while addressing the institution’s staff and students as they returned from the Christmas and New Year holidays.

“No student is expected to wear slippers, rugged jeans, coloured hair, long fingers, fez caps, or artificial eyelashes,” he directed.

Mr. Anieke regretted that most students and staff wear t-shirts with unauthorized inscriptions, contrary to the school’s dress code, and ordered male students to comb their hair properly or shave
it.

A UNIZIK lecturer gave birth to septuplets and is asked to pay a N19 million hospital bill.

Mrs. Ngozi Uzodike, a lecturer at Anambra state’s Nnamdi Azikiwe University, gives birth to septuplets (seven children).

It was learned that the newly made mother bore two boys and five girls. However, one of the girls did not survive.

The lady who teaches in the department of Business Administration in the institution was delivered of the seven infants on Sunday, 8th January, 2023 at the Obijackson Women and Children Hospital, Okija.

It was gathered that the family was charged 19 million naira as the hospital bill.

While the development is a happy one, the mother of seven lamented that they hadn’t been paid salary since 2020.

Her husband, Mr. Celestine Uzodike, who spoke to reporters on Wednesday revealed that his wife was employed by the institution as a lecturer, but had not received payment since.

The man bemoaned the fact that, even though his wife had been promoted from Assistant Lecturer to Lecturer II, his she had never received a salary of even one kobo.

He appealed to the FG to pay the two-year salary arrears owed to his wife and assist them as they can’t settle the bills of all the kids alone.

“The babies came out prematurely at 26th week gestation period and the hospital said they will need to be placed under intensive care unit and each of them will cost N3million. One of them has died, remaining six babies, that is why they billed us like that.”

Mrs Uzodike, who was weak to speak following her delivery, stated, “All I want is for philanthropists both in Anambra State and Nigeria at large to come to our aid in other to offset the hospital bill.”

In a video she shared, the BBNaija star and brand influencer stormed the streets, approaching commuters and residents at random to ask if they had their PVCs.

Those who were able to show theirs she gave some monetary rewards.

Tacha noted that she isn’t giving money out just because she has a lot of it, but because she cares.

She stressed the importance of keeping in mind that when one votes, one should realize that the vote isn’t for themselves but for their family as the consequence thereof affects everyone.
