Osimhen Is World’s Best Striker – Super Eagles Defender, Troost-Ekong Declares

Victor Osimhen has been declared as the world’s best striker.
Super Eagles assistant captain, William Troost-Ekong gave the rating following Osimhen’s impressive performance for Napoli this season.
The 24-year-old striker has been in top form this season and has scored an astonishing 19 goals in 22 league games.
Speaking to DAZN during the broadcast ‘Tutti Bravi dal Sofa’ on Sunday, former Napoli defender Faouzi Ghoulam believed the Nigerian forward was not yet at the level of Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema and Manchester City’s Erling Haaland.
“Today, the best striker is (Karim) Benzema, but then there’s (Erling) Haaland, who is scoring a lot of goals. He’s a phenomenon in the penalty area,” he said.
However, Troost-Ekong said Osimhen is the finest striker in the world.
“Osimhen is probably the best striker in the world right now. I am happy for him because he has overcome difficult moments,” he was quoted as saying by Sports Italia.
The 29-year-old, who joined Salernitana on loan from Watford, also talked about the future of the forward following links to Manchester United in the Premier League.
He added, “It’s a very important year for him, he can win the Scudetto, and then he’ll be able to think about the future.”

Why I Wore Extravagant Dress to Oscars — Tems

Nigerian singer Temilade Openiyi aka Tems has revealed why she decided to wear an extravagant dress to the 2023 Oscars.
Recall that the dress obstructed the view of many people at the event, with social media users terming her insensitive.
The prestigious award event  was held at the Dolby Centre, Los Angeles, on Sunday and was attended by Hollywood’s finest who stunned in different fashion pieces.
Tems was dressed in a custom white sculptural gown by Ukrainian brand, Lever Couture’s AW22,  Leleka Couture collection. The gown which features a large headpiece drew backlash for obstructing the view of fellow audience members at the event.
Speaking with Harper’s Bazzar, Tems in a pre-Oscars interview gave behind-the-scenes details on the controversial gown.
According to the Grammys award winner, she decided to “go all out”  and “make the most” of her first Oscars attendance.
“Two years ago, I would’ve said no to this dress,” she said. “But it’s my first Oscars — I am going to go all out. I really wanted to make the most of the day. The dress is also my way of celebrating my work and the people around me, celebrating my country, and celebrating the people that are rooting for me. This dress says ‘Yes, yes, I am here!’”
Speaking on her recent groundbreaking achievements on the international music scene, the ‘Crazy Tings’ singer said this was just the beginning for her. Tems mentioned that her collaboration with musical giants like Beyonce and Rihanna were indications she was on the “right path”.
 
“If the biggest women in the world love my work to such an extent that they are working with me, then that must say something. My work is actually reaching places, it’s making some type of impact.
 
“And that is insane! I really am just trying to keep my feet on the ground and continue running and doing things that are a hundred per cent authentic to me. Evolving, learning, growing. It’s just the beginning for me,” she said.
With her collaboration with singer Rihanna; music producer, Ludwig Göransson; and Black Panther’s director, Ryan Coogler, for the movie’s soundtrack, ‘Lift Me Up’, Tems was nominated for Best Original Song at this year’s Oscars
The category was however won by  Kaala Bhairava and Rahul Sipligunj for ‘Naatu Naatu’.

Tems Attacked For Wearing A View-Blocking Outfit at Oscars

Social media users have accused Nigerian award-winning singer, Temilade Openiyi, aka Tems of being insensitive.
She was attacked on social media over her view-obstructing outfit at the Oscars.
Tems, nominated for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever track, “Lift Me Up” wore a puffy white gown that wrapped around the back of her head.
Her elaborate outfit blocked the view of some attendees who sat at her back at Sunday night’s Academy Awards.
Reacting on social media, some viewers criticized Tems for her view-blocking outfit while others said she stole the show.

Popular Nigerian socialite, Cubana Chiefpriest has flaunted his mansion and expensive cars after being called out for impregnating a Kenyan lady.
Taking to his official Instagram page, the self-styled celebrity barman shared a video of his magnificent mansion.
The video also captured the socialite’s fleet of expensive cars. About four of his expensive black SUVs were visible in the video.

Portable Arrives Local Market To Buy And Share Groceries To Residents, Gifts N100K To Student

Popular Nigerian street artist, Habeeb Okikiola aka Portable stormed Agege community to give back to society.

The singer who recently celebrated his birthday visited a market in Agege, Lagos to set smiles on the faces of some locals who were there.

He visited several stores, buying some food items such as cartons of spaghetti and giving them out.

The ‘Zazzo’ crooner at one of the stores he visited met a girl who was still in her school uniform.

She appeared to be a big fan of Portable as he embraced her and promised to give her N100K. He could be seen trying to make transaction with a POS operator to make the money available to her.

Tinubu Has No Preferred Candidates For National Assembly Leadership – Shettima

The President-elect, Bola Tinubu does not have preferred candidates for the leadership of both the Senate and the House of Representatives in the 10th National Assembly, Vice President-elect, Kashim Shettima has revealed.
Shettima made this known at the meeting with new members-elect to the National Assembly in Abuja.
A member-elect for Bungudu/Maru Federal Constituency of Zamfara State, Abdulmalik Bungudu, revealed this to our correspondent shortly after the meeting.
Bungudu, who spoke in the Hausa language, revealed that Tinubu told attendees that he had no preferred candidates for any of the principal offices of the 10th NASS.
He quoted Shettima as saying, “For now, he (Tinubu) said he doesn’t have anybody that he prefers to have as Senate President or Speaker, but consultations are going to continue to get the way out for the party and to also ensure the party emerges victorious in the forthcoming governorship and Houses of Assembly elections.”
 
Meanwhile, lawmakers newly elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, on Monday, in Abuja, said the party would zone principal offices only after the conclusion of the governorship and state Assembly elections holding on Saturday, March 18.
The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, among other lawmakers-elect, disclosed this to our correspondent after a meeting between senators-elect and House of Representatives members-elect with the party leadership held at the Banquet Hall of the State House, Abuja.
The meeting, which comes barely two weeks after the February 25 presidential and National Assembly elections, is the first between the newly-elected members of parliament and the party.
It followed rife speculations that the APC would use the medium to speedily zone principal offices in the two chambers of the 10th National Assembly to avert a repeat of the 2015 scenario where the party lost grip of the legislature despite retaining the most number of seats in both chambers.
However, the Speaker of the House, Gbajabiamila, told our correspondent that the conversation did not entail any discussion about the NASS leadership because the elections were not over.

FG To Charge Helicopter Landing Fees — Minister

The federal government will charge landing fees for helicopters operating in Nigerian airspace.

Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika announced this while announcing the latest batch of trained Helicopter Monitoring Officers at the International Wing of the Port Harcourt International Airport in the Rivers State capital.

The minister, who was represented by the Director of Human Resources at the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Norris Anozie reiterated the resolve of the Federal Government to improve revenue collection of helicopter landing charges.

One of the newly trained Helicopter Monitoring Officers told Channels Television that everywhere helicopters land or take off from in the country will be adequately monitored.

The Helicopter Monitoring Officers are going to be vested with the responsibility of collecting landing fees on behalf of the Federal Government.

BVAS Configuration: INEC Imputing Wrong Figures – Dino Melaye Raises Alarm

Senator Dino Melaye of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP has made a new allegation against the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
He accused INEC, of imputing wrong figures while transferring results to the backend server.
Melaye, a spokesperson to the presidential candidate of the PDP in the just concluded February 25 election, Atiku Abubakar, disclosed this in a post via his Twitter handle on Monday.
He said his party would expose any wrong imputation and change in figures by the commission as it transfers election results to the backend server.
Recall that the Electoral Commission recently obtained order from the Court to allow it reconfigure the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System, BVAS, for the March 18 gubernatorial election.
However, the former lawmaker said they would shock INEC and its ICT department.
 
“INEC is doing the wrong thing, wrong imputation going on. We will expose any wrong imputation and figures changing as upload and backend transfer is going on. We will shock INEC and the ICT department. Jail loading for many,” he tweeted.

CBN Directs Banks To Dispense And Receive Old N200, N500 And N1000 Notes

Following the Naira scarcity in the country and the Supreme court order, declaring the old N500 and N1000 as legal tender till Dec 31, 2023, the Central Bank of Nigeria has now directed commercial banks to dispense and receive old naira notes.

A statement by the acting Director, CBN Corporate Communications, Isa AbdulMumin, says the apex bank gave the directive at a Bankers’ Committee meeting held on Sunday.

Banks have now been authorised to dispense and receive the old Naira notes.
