SERAP Obtains Court Leave To Compel Tinubu Administration To Probe Missing Funds Under Buhari Government

Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP), has obtained the leave of the court to apply for an order of mandamus to compel President Bola Tinubu to investigate the alleged missing $2.1 billion and N3.1 trillion oil revenue under the administration of the immediate past President, Muhammadu Buhari.

SERAP in June had filed a lawsuit to compel President Tinubu to set up a presidential panel of enquiry to promptly probe the grim allegations that US$2.1 billion and N3.1 trillion public funds of oil revenues and budgeted as fuel subsidy payments are missing and unaccounted for between 2016 and 2019, as documented by the Auditor-General of the Federation.

The organisation had urged the President to “name and shame anyone suspected to be responsible for the alleged widespread and systemic corruption in the use of oil revenues and the management of public funds budgeted as fuel subsidy and to ensure their effective prosecution as well as the full recovery of any proceeds of crime.”

It also urged him “to promptly, thoroughly, independently, transparently and effectively probe all fuel subsidy paid by successive governments since the return of democracy in 1999, and to use any recovered proceeds of crime as palliatives to address the impact of any subsidy removal on poor Nigerians.”

SERAP giving an update in a post on its X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday night wrote, “We have obtained the leave of the court to apply for an order of mandamus to compel the Tinubu administration to probe the allegations that USD$2.1 billion and N3.1 trillion of oil revenues are missing and unaccounted for between 2016 and 2019.”

Nigerian businessman, Abusalami has called out singer, Davido over N218million debt.
The man took to his Instagram page to call out the singer.
He alleged that the renowned musician breached the agreement in relation to a children’s project.
According to him, he paid Davido the sum of 218 million naira, out of a total project cost of 326 million naira, but that the singer did not fulfil his obligations.
In a detailed statement shared on his Instagram page, Abusalami explains that the project, which involved young talents from 20 different states, was scheduled but ultimately cancelled by Davido, resulting in a financial loss of 42 million naira for Abusalami.
Abusalami also claimed that he requested Davido to do a commercial about the project, which the singer refused to do. He stressed that the singer went away with his money without delivering the project, labelling Davido as a “thief.”
He also highlighted his own financial difficulties and the potential negative impact on the young players who were supposed to benefit from the project.

Abusalami revealed how the situation pushed him to depression and thought of going suicidal. He said he shelved the thought of taking his own life when he considered the kids who look up to him for help.
Davido, however, has not reacted to the allegation as of the time of filing this report.
See reactions below:
stansnOw: “Never heard anyone saying Burna or Wizkid is owing them. Why always Davido? Davido needs to do something about it.”
effedeborah: “Wizkid Fc gather here. We don’t do drama.”
usendollar: “Truth be told! My OBO can never do such! He’s recently richer and more influential than Jay-Z! But because he’s Nigerian, we always downgrade our own.”
cartelways07: “It reaches your favorite… y’all saying you need to hear from both sides, but when it was that of Naira Marley you didn’t wait to hear from both sides. You can’t be shouting and fighting for justice for Mohbad and still support your favorite when it comes to Bullying… since Davido can’t debunk his accusations, that means there’s an atom of truth in it. Irrespective of who is involved, always stand and fight against oppression! If he’s saying the truth, OBO should refund his money.”

Drama Looms As Adeleke Suspends Foreign Trips For Osun Officials

Ademola Adeleke, the Osun state governor, has barred international visits for key officials in his government for the remainder of the year, with exceptions for emergencies, The Nation reports.

To improve efficiency in the governance process, the governor also asked the Head of Service, Leye Aina, to produce a document outlining the relationship between the Commissioners and the Special Advisers.

Adeleke stated that excessive spending on recurrent and overhead expenses must be avoided during a meeting with members of the State Executive Council to deliberate on 2024 budget proposals from ministries, departments, and agencies as a prelude to the submission of the Medium Term Expenditure Framework to the State House of Assembly.

While pushing cabinet members to make personal sacrifices, the governor stated that in light of the state’s dire financial condition, all members of the government must exhibit a willingness to sacrifice.

A statement by the spokesperson to the governor, Olawale Rasheed, obtained in Osogbo on Monday, quoting Adeleke further read in parts, “Foreign trips for top officials for the rest of the year are hereby suspended unless there is a direct emergency to be authorised by the Governor.

“We must sustain the momentum of our service delivery by avoiding excessive spending on recurrent and overheads.

“Our needs from office to accommodation are much, but our resources are limited. So we have to devise a coping mechanism pending the time our funding situation will improve.

“While memos by Special Advisers must pass through the Permanent Secretary to the Commissioners, the Commissioners must ensure fair play and an accommodating spirit.”
