Nigerian Singer, Konga Demands 60% Of Song Earnings From Burna Boy For Sampling Him

Veteran singer Konga has claimed that he is entitled to 60 percent of the earnings from Afrobeats star Burna Boy’s hit song ‘Update’, alleging that the Grammy-winning artist sampled his work without obtaining permission.

Speaking in a recent episode of the Hits Don’t Lie podcast, Konga revealed that Burna Boy refused to reach out to him even after he called him out peacefully a few months ago.

He lamented that Burna Boy agreed to pay American singer Toni Braxton 60 per cent of the earnings from his 2022 smash hit ‘Last Last’ for sampling her song ‘He Wasn’t Man Enough’ but couldn’t do the same for him.

“If Toni Braxton is having 60% royalty of Last Last, why can’t he do the same thing to come and meet me first, talk to me?,” Konga queried.

He disclosed that he has been preventing his lawyers from taking legal action against Burna Boy because he loves his music and is proud of his contribution to the global advancement of African music.

Konga noted that Burna Boy had also previously sampled his lyrics in the remix of ‘Sungba’ with Asake.

He said since Burna Boy refused his public request for the Grammy winner to remix his evergreen hit ‘Kabakaba’ with him, he has also decided to sample Burna Boy without permission.

Some Talentless Nigerian Artistes Hide Behind Afrobeats – Veteran Rapper, Ruggedman (Video)

Veteran rapper Ruggedman has criticised the tendency to group all African music into a single, catch-all genre known as Afrobeats.

Speaking in a recent interview with Day Genius, Ruggedy Baba said he had always opposed the term but was accused of being jealous of Afrobeats singers.

He argued that Afrobeats is not a genre but a “name” talentless Nigerians hide behind.

“I don’t like Afrobeats as an umbrella genre from every music coming out of Africa. That was a mistake. I didn’t liked it from the beginning but when I complained people accused me of being jealous or trying to gatekeep.

“Right now, if I go to the UK to perform, I would be tagged an Afrobeats artistes. It is wrong.

“It is the people in the UK who started this thing of tagging every African music Afrobeats. Nigerians love classicism. They just wanted to give it a name.

“For me, Afrobeats with an ‘S’ is a name talentless Nigerians hide behind. All you need to make an Afrobeats hit is just to get a good beat and a street slang and repeat it as many times as you like. Then spend a lot of money to promote it. That is the Afrobeats with an ‘S’,” he said.

The rapper also claimed that only a few Afrobeats artists can sing without autotone.

He added that that is why most Afrobeats artists shy away from freestyling and live performances with bands.

Jesse Jagz Abaga, the popular Nigerian singer and rapper, has voiced concerns about the growing economic hardship and rising insecurity in the country.

The ‘Bad Girl’ crooner said he can’t fathom the rationale behind the high level of corruption and maladministration among Nigeria’s political class.

He said the failure of Nigerian politicians to provide amenities, such as medical facilities to their communities, is why a lot of the same politicians end up “dying like dogs” in foreign hospitals.

On his X handle, he wrote, “Imagine getting the chance to change your people’s future, and all you do is steal the money and ship it abroad.

“I swear I don’t understand the logic of these Nigerian politicians. That’s why most of them end up dying like dogs in hospitals abroad!”

In another post, Jesse Jagz claimed that Nigerian politicians are now serving the interests of foreign governments who installed them as “puppets” instead of the Nigerian citizens.

He further alleged that the cost of living in Nigeria became worse since the administration of former United States President Barrack Obama helped the All Progressives Congress, APC, snatched power.

The rapper added, “Today’s politicians are no different from the collaborators who helped colonize us, or the ones who sold their own brothers and sisters into slavery.

“I was here, alive, watching when Obama and his crew backed Buhari — and life has only gotten worse since.”

Nigerian social media influencer and self-proclaimed relationship expert, Blessing CEO, has shared an update regarding her health.

In a post on her Instagram page, the relationship coach revealed that she has been diagnosed with breast cancer and that doctors have recommended urgent surgery to remove one or both breasts to stop the disease from spreading.

She explained that making the decision to undergo surgery was very difficult, describing the emotional toll and challenges she faces.

She also disclosed that her resources have been stretched, prompting her to seek financial help to cover the cost of the operation.

This development follows her earlier announcement that she would sell some of her personal belongings, including her car, wigs, and Lagos mansion, to raise funds for treatment.

She shared an account number in the video to receive contributions and asked her followers to support her in any way they can.

She said: “My name is Okoro Blessing Nkiruka and I’m popularly known as Blessing CEO. I’ve been diagnosed with breast cancer. At this point, an urgent surgery is needed for amputation to stop the spread or to know how far the spread has gone.

“If they’re taking off one of the breasts or both of it, trust me, it was a very hard decision to come here. But the truth is, when predicaments like this come for you, you become powerless. I might not be able to do anything, work, influence, resources has gone into this.

“And that’s why I’m here pleading. If I have ever touched you before, if my words have ever shown any positive in your life, if you ever say Blessing CEO I love you, this is the time to show it.

Nigerian Depot Owners Reduce Fuel Prices Lower Than Dangote Petrol

On Wednesday, Nigerian petroleum depot owners cut their ex-depot petrol price per litre to a level below that of fuel sold at Dangote Refinery’s gantry.

Checks by Daily Post showed that AA Rano, Sahara, Soroman, Bovas, and Alkanes have all dropped their ex-depot petrol price to N1,270 per liter from between N1,285 and N1,290 per liter.

The latest ex-depot depot’s petrol price is N5 lower than Dangote Refinery’s gantry, which stood at N1,275.

The drop comes as global crude oil prices, such as Brent and West Texas Intermediate, fell to below $100 per barrel on Tuesday on the back of the president of the United States’ peace proposal with Iran.

With the falling crude oil prices, Dangote Refinery is under pressure to slash its gantry below N1,275 per liter.

Meanwhile, retail petrol prices stood at N1,361 and N1,380 per liter in Abuja as of the time of filing this report.

Price adjustments in gantry or ex-depot petrol directly impact retail prices.

Big Brother Naija star, Uriel Oputa has spoken out against using cancer-related claims as a means to generate content.

The reality TV star took to Instagram to state that cancer is serious. She added that her mother suffered breast cancer and it is not something to joke about.

Though she did not call names, her post comes after content creator Blessing Okoro, aka Blessing CEO, cried out online that she has been diagnosed with “stage 4”. She shared a video showing her loosening her braids, with some hair strands coming off.

Many reacted, accusing Blessing of chasing clout with cancer. They stated that the hair coming off is kinky attachment, not her real hair. Others asked “stage 4” what she has been diagnosed with, while some suggested she was diagnosed with “stage 4 clout chasing”.

Others said prayers for her and urged her to ensure she was not making false claims.

Speaking on the topic of cancer, Uriel wrote: “I CANT BELIEVE WE’RE ACTUALLY PLAYING AROUND WITH SOMETHING LIKE CANCER.

“ALL I SAW WAS STAGE 4- NO DEFINITION NO CLARITY. NOTHING EXPLAINED JUST THROWN OUT THERE SO LOOSELY THERE WASN’T EVEN CANCER WRITTEN JUST-STAGE 4 AND EVEN WITH THAT.
