La Liga: Sevilla humiliate Barcelona 4-1

Barcelona suffered their first La Liga defeat of the season in humiliating fashion as Sevilla cruised to a 4-1 victory in Andalusia on Sunday.

Araujo’s error sparks Sevilla’s dominance

Ronald Araujo’s foul on Isaac Romero inside the box gifted Sevilla an early breakthrough, confirmed after a VAR review.

Former Barcelona forward Alexis Sanchez converted from the spot to make it 1-0. Romero then doubled the lead ten minutes before halftime, finishing a precise pass from Ruben Vargas after missing two earlier chances.

Rashford offers hope, Lewandowski falters

Marcus Rashford briefly gave Barcelona hope with his first La Liga goal from a superb Pedri cross just before the break.

However, Robert Lewandowski wasted a golden chance to equalise in the 76th minute, sending his penalty wide after Alejandro Balde was fouled.

Sevilla seal the rout late on

Jose Angel Carmona’s finish and Akor Adams’ stoppage-time strike completed a dominant display for Sevilla, sending the home crowd into raptures.

The defeat marks back-to-back losses for Hansi Flick’s side after their Champions League setback against PSG.

Barcelona remain second on the table, while Sevilla climb to fourth after their famous victory.

Sevilla Terminate Kelechi Iheanacho’s Contract

Kelechi Iheanacho’s contract with Spanish club Sevilla has been terminated.
The club and Iheancho reached a mutual agreement to end the contract, which was originally set to run until June 30, 2026.
Iheanacho, who joined Sevilla on a free transfer from Leicester City last summer, struggled to establish himself at the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán Stadium. He made 15 appearances across all competitions in the first half of the 2024/25 season, scoring three goals, before being loaned to Championship side Middlesbrough in January.
During his spell in England, the 28-year-old registered one goal and two assists in 15 matches, but his performances were not enough to earn a return to Sevilla’s plans.
He failed to make the matchday squad for the club’s opening three league games this season, signaling the end of his time in Spain.
A club statement confirmed the departure:
“Sevilla FC and Kelechi Iheanacho have reached an agreement to terminate the contract of the Nigerian striker. Iheanacho joined the club last summer after ending his contract with Leicester City.”
The Super Eagles star is now strongly linked with a move to Scottish champions Celtic, where he could reunite with manager Brendan Rodgers, his former coach at Leicester City.
Iheanacho’s next move will be crucial as he seeks to revive his career ahead of Nigeria’s preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers and the Africa Cup of Nations.

‘It would be taking advantage a bit to say now Barca need me. I left saying that when Barca needed and wanted me I would return regardless of where I was. There’s too much love, respect and care I have for this home. If Barca think they need me all they need to do is call. I believe I can add things wherever I go but at Barca now especially with the youngsters they have. We were young once and we weren’t prepared to defend a responsibility as big as defending Barca is, no matter how good they are or how much they are spoken about. It’s all new. You need a mix of young and old to give balance and the chance to fight for great things.’
