Guardiola hails Arteta, labels Arsenal Europe’s toughest test

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has described Mikel Arteta as “extraordinary” and ranked Arsenal among the toughest opponents in Europe ahead of Sunday’s Premier League clash at the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal, who finished as City’s closest challengers in recent seasons, are unbeaten in their last five encounters with the side.

The last meeting between both clubs saw the Gunners claim a stunning 5-1 victory in north London just seven months ago.

Ahead of the new campaign, Arteta strengthened his squad with high-profile additions including Viktor Gyokeres and Eberechi Eze, a move Guardiola believes has made Arsenal even stronger.

Praise for Arteta and Arsenal’s growth

Speaking in his prematch press conference, Guardiola hailed his former assistant: “Hopefully, it is an unbelievable squad, and this season we can make more of a challenge because Mikel is an extraordinary manager.

“They increase the squad in four or five transfer windows. It is one of the toughest opponents you can find right now in Europe.”

Guardiola also admitted City lost focus in the closing stages of their last meeting: “The last 15–20 minutes were a disaster. We forgot to do what we have to do. After that, it was easy for Arsenal.”

Arsenal’s rising strength

The City boss highlighted the Gunners’ all-round qualities, including their attacking pace and efficiency from set pieces under coach Nicolas Jover.

“For me, it is the most solid team; they don’t make mistakes. They have pace up front. They have set pieces with Nico, who was here. In every department we know the quality they have,” he added.

Guardiola admitted City must adapt quickly on Sunday and improve from last season, especially in game management during the final minutes.

Strong start to the season

Arsenal head into the fixture in strong form, winning four of their opening five matches across all competitions, including a Champions League triumph over Athletic Club.

They have scored 11 goals and conceded just once, proving how tough their defense has been so far.

Haaland double inspires Manchester City to derby win over United

Erling Haaland continued his high flying form as Manchester City beat rivals Manchester United 3-0 in Sunday’s Premier League clash at the Etihad Stadium.

Phil Foden’s early header put the hosts ahead, before Erling Haaland struck twice in the second half to seal the victory for Pep Guardiola’s men.

Foden strikes first

City took the lead inside the opening 20 minutes when Jeremy Doku’s clever wing play carved open United’s defence, allowing academy graduate Foden to nod in from close range.

The goal gave City the edge as they controlled possession and kept United pinned back.

Haaland takes charge

The pressure paid off after the restart. A flowing move saw Haaland finish clinically to make it 2-0 just after half-time.

The Norwegian capitalised again midway through the second half, latching onto a midfield error from United before rifling home his second of the day.

Haaland’s brace took his tally to five goals in four games against United this campaign.

Emotional tribute at the Etihad

Before kick-off, both clubs joined in a minute’s applause to honour former world champion boxer Ricky Hatton, a lifelong City supporter who was found dead at his home in Manchester earlier in the day at the age of 46.

United left searching for answers

For United, the loss piles pressure on Ruben Amorim, whose side continue to carryover their struggles from last campaign.

They currently occupy the 14th spot with just one win from their last four league outings. They play host to Chelsea next weekend in another challenging encounter.

Pep Guardiola Signs New Two-Year Contract at Manchester City Until 2027

Pep Guardiola will be incharge of Manchester City till 2027.
This comes after he signed a new two-year contract to extend his stay as Manchester City coach, the club announced Thursday.

The Spaniard manager, 53, agreed to a deal that will keep him at the Etihad Stadium until 2027. His contract was due to expire at the end of the current campaign but he decided to extend his contract.
The extension means Guardiola will celebrate 10 years at City in the summer of 2026, having arrived from Bayern Munich in 2016.
Guardiola, who has won 18 trophies, including six Premier League titles and the Champions League while at the Etihad, admitted that while he had been thinking of leaving at the end of the season, City’s recent four-game losing run was partly a factor in his decision to extend his stay at the club.
“Since the beginning of the season, I was thinking a lot, there were some moments, I have to be honest, I thought this should be the last one because every one is…” he told the club’s website.

“But at the same time, when the situation comes and the problems we had in the last month, I felt now is not the time to leave, I would let the club down and I had the feeling I had to do it.

“Don’t ask me the reason why. Maybe the four defeats were the reason why and I felt I cannot leave. I felt the club still want me or had the fact that we were together and that’s the reason why we sign.

“Manchester City means so much to me. This is my ninth season here; we have experienced so many amazing times together. I have a really special feeling for this football club.

“That is why I am so happy to be staying for another two more seasons.

“Thank you to everyone for continuing to trust and support me – The Owner, The Chairman Khaldoon, Ferran, Txiki, the players and of course the fans… everyone connected to Manchester City. It has always been an honour, a pleasure and a privilege to be here.

“I have said this many times before, but I have everything a manager could ever wish for, and I appreciate that so much. Hopefully now we can add more trophies to the ones we have already won. That will be my focus.”

Manchester City Win Legal Premier League Legal Battle

Manchester City Football Club has won its legal battle with the Premier League over the Associated Party Transaction rules.
Reacting in a statement on Monday following the favourable ruling, Manchester City expressed gratitude to the members of the Arbitral Tribunal for their work and considerations and welcomed the findings.
“The tribunal found that both the original APT rules and the current (amended) APT rules violate UK competition law and the requirements of procedural fairness,” the statement said.
The tribunal criticised the Premier League for its application of the APT rules, stating that the rules were structurally unfair and that the league was specifically unjust in how it applied those rules to the club in practice.
This resulted in specific decisions by the Premier League regarding Manchester City’s sponsorship transactions being set aside.
The tribunal also found that the rules were discriminatory in how they operated because they deliberately excluded shareholder loans.
The statement added, “As well as these general findings on legality, the tribunal has set aside specific decisions of the Premier League to restate the fair market value of two transactions entered into by the club.

“The tribunal held that the Premier League had reached its decisions in a procedurally unfair manner.

“The tribunal also ruled that there was an unreasonable delay in the Premier League’s fair market value assessment of two of the club’s sponsorship transactions, and so the Premier League breached its own rules.”

“The club has succeeded with its claim: the Associated Party Transaction (APT) rules have been found to be unlawful, and the Premier League’s decisions on two specific MCFC sponsorship transactions have been set aside.

EPL: I’d Swap All My 51 Man City Goals To Win Treble – Haaland

Manchester City striker, Erling Haaland has revealed that he’s ready to swap all his 51 goals for a treble.
Recall that Haaland broke the record for Premier League goals in a single season on Wednesday night, as City thrashed West Ham 3-0 to return to the top of the table.
Pep Guardiola’s men are also set to face Real Madrid in the last four of the Champions League and will face Manchester United in the FA Cup final in June, as they try to win a remarkable treble.
Speaking to Sky Sports after the West Ham game, Haaland simply replied “yes” when asked if he would trade his goals for three trophies this season.
However, he added: “Everyone knows it’s possible but we cannot think of the FA Cup final now when we play Leeds in three days.

“If you do this you are not good in your head.”

Guardiola responds to criticism after Manchester City was charged with financial irregularities.

Pep Guardiola has spoken out about Manchester City’s recent attacks, following reports that the club has been charged by the Premier League for financial irregularities.

Pep Guardiola

It was reported earlier that the English club has been charged with 101 breaches of financial regulations since the takeover by the Abu Dhabi United Group in 2008, with the punishment a long way from being decided.

Reacting to questions on the development from reporters on Friday, February 10, Guardiola stated that while he feels they’ve already been condemned even though prosecutors are yet to prove the charges, he still believes they are “innocent until proven guilty”.

The club’s coach said;

“My thought is that we have already been condemned. Since Monday it is like what happened with UEFA. The club proved that they were completely innocent, why should I think right now, with just charges of suggestions… You have to understand that the 19 teams of the Premier League are accusing us without opportunity to defend ourselves. You know exactly on what side I am.

“We are lucky we live in a society where everybody is innocent until proven guilty. We didn’t have this opportunity. (People say) we are already guilty. I think we have good lawyers but the Premier League – supported by 19 teams – are going to take good lawyers too. If we are not innocent we will accept what the judge or Premier League decide, but what happens if it’s the same as UEFA and we are innocent? What happens to restore our damage?”

Manchester City has been charged by the Premier League for numerous financial rule violations.

The Premier League has referred Manchester City to an independent commission for alleged financial rule violations.

The alleged breaches span a period from the 2009-10 season to the 2017-18 Premier League campaign.

The charges relate to financial information regarding revenue, details of manager and player remuneration, UEFA regulations, profitability, and sustainability and cooperation on with Premier League investigations.

The Premier League said in a statement;

“In accordance with Premier League Rule W.82.1, the Premier League confirms that it has today [February 6 2023] referred a number of alleged breaches of the Premier League Rules by Manchester City Football Club (Club) to a commission under Premier League Rule W.3.4.

“Commissions are independent of the Premier League and member clubs. The members of the commission will be appointed by the independent chair of the Premier League judicial panel, in accordance with Premier League rules W.19, W.20 and W.26.

“The proceedings before the commission will, in accordance with Premier League rule W.82, be confidential and heard in private. Under Premier League rule W.82.2, the commission’s final award will be published on the Premier League’s website.

“This confirmation is made in accordance with Premier League rule W.82.1. The Premier League will be making no further comment in respect of this matter until further notice.”

Since being taken over by the Abu Dhabi group in 2008, Manchester City have become one of football’s powerhouses thanks to considerable financial investment.

The arrival of the Gulf based owners heralded a new era of unprecedented success with the club winning six Premier League titles since the takeover.

Under the guidance of former Barcelona and Bayern coach Pep Guardiola, City won the Premier League in the 2017-18 season, becoming the only team in the competition history to attain 100 points in a single season. In 2018–19, they won four trophies, completing an unprecedented sweep of all domestic titles in England and becoming the first English men’s team to win the domestic treble.

The Champions League title remains ‘unfinished business’ for the Sky Blues after the 2021 final defeat to Chelsea in Porto.

Cancelo will join Bayern Munich on loan from Manchester City.

Ahead of the January transfer deadline, it has been reported that Portuguese footballer Joao Cancelo will leave Manchester City on loan to join Bayern Munich for the rest of the season.

Joao Cancelo

Cancelo has been a key player for City in recent times, taking in 36 appearances for the Premier League champions last season while making the PFA Premier League Team of the Year in each of the last two campaigns.

SUGGESTION: You can get News updates directly on WhatsApp by clicking “HERE” and joining our group.

Some English media platforms reported that Manchester United and Bayern Munich are working out a short-term move with an option to buy him for €70 million (£61.6 million).

The 28-year-old spent three and a half years at the Etihad after joining the club from Juventus in 2019 for €65 million (£60 million).

Cancelo is now eager to leave to get first-team football after losing his place since the World Cup.

The Portugal international has only started three of City’s 10 games since the World Cup and has not featured since the Manchester derby defeat.

City’s shift in tactics, plus the emergence of teenager Rico Lewis, the ability of Nathan Ake to play left-back, and the fact manager Pep Guardiola has five central defenders in his squad means they believe they have enough cover to cope without him for the rest of the season.

Bayern has already lost left-back Lucas Hernandez for the rest of the season with a cruciate ligament injury.

The club’s full-back Noussair Mazrouai was also sidelined recently, though they did sign the Netherlands international Daley Blind.

Bayern could also lose Benjamin Pavard this summer, with the France defender’s contract running out in 2024, all of which makes Cancelo a timely addition immediately and for the future.

If Cancelo seals a switch before the winter window closes on Tuesday, then he would be in line to make his debut for Bayern in either a DFB-Pokal clash with Mainz on Wednesday or a Bundesliga trip to Wolfsburg on Sunday.

Before the match against Manchester City, Jurgen Klopp speaks.

Jurgen Klopp, the manager of Liverpool, responded to his team’s UEFA Champions League thrashing of Rangers.

In advance of the Premier League matchup against Manchester City, Klopp was questioned about the team’s mentality. The German claimed that his side would make the best possible preparations for the contest.

The best football team is waiting on Sunday, coming to Anfield. We will see what we can do.

Since the start of the Premier League this season, Liverpool has had a string of bad performances. After humiliating Rangers 7-1, the Merseyside team is in a terrific mood going into the encounter against the Cityzens. The Reds only need a point to secure a berth in the next round since they are only one point behind Napoli.
