How DSS Operatives Rescued Two Kidnapped Kaduna Pastors, Nabbed Three Suspects

Operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) in Niger State have successfully rescued two ECWA pastors and a church member who were abducted by armed bandits in Kaduna State.

The victims, Rev. Idi Buhari, Rev. Emmanuel Jacob, and Suleiman Adamu, were kidnapped on January 9, 2026, at the Gwagwada area of Chikun Local Government Area while travelling through Kugosi to Sarkin Pawa in Niger State to officiate a wedding ceremony.

Receiving the rescued pastors, Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in the 19 northern states and the Federal Capital Territory, Rev. Joseph John Hayab, said the victims were safely rescued from the bush by DSS operatives during ongoing security operations in Niger State.

Hayab commended the DSS for what he described as courageous, timely, and selfless service to the nation, noting that the successful rescue brought immense relief to the church and families of the victims.

He said the safe return of the abducted pastors had renewed hope that criminal elements could be defeated through sustained and coordinated security efforts.

The CAN chairman noted that insecurity could only be effectively tackled through cooperation among security agencies, faith leaders, and the general public, warning that criminals thrive when communities are divided.

Meanwhile, DSS operatives of the Niger and Kaduna State Command, in a joint operation, also arrested three suspects linked to the incident.

The suspects are also involved in arms and ammunition courier, and they operate along the Kwara–Niger–Katsina–Kaduna axis.

According to one of the suspects, Kwalo, they transport the ammunition through motor parks and rural routes to evade security checkpoints.

He said they received a consignment from a courier at Tegina Motor Park in Niger State and handed it over to Kawu, who subsequently passed it to Iro Malam Iro for onward delivery.

Iro was said to have conveyed the ammunition from Tegina to Sabuwa Local Government Area of Katsina State, where it was allegedly delivered to an unidentified recipient after he was directed to use specific routes to avoid detection.

Kwalo received N50,000 for collecting the consignment, Kawu earned N5,000 as a middleman, while Iro was paid N20,000 as a courier.

During interrogation, Kwalo claimed he was deceived into handling the consignment, alleging that the sender told him it contained tantalite, a precious stone, concealed in sacks of millet to prevent theft.

Reacting to the arrests and rescue of the abducted pastors, the Kaduna State Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Sule Shuaibu (SAN), said the operation reflected the commitment of the DSS and other security agencies to protecting lives and property.

Shuaibu commended the DSS leadership for its sustained efforts, assuring residents that the Kaduna State Government, under Governor Uba Sani, remains committed not only to maintaining peace but to sustaining it.

He urged citizens to support security agencies by promptly reporting suspicious activities, stressing that security is a shared responsibility and that continued collaboration is critical to curbing criminality across the state.

I’ll Be There – Sowore Replies As DSS Drags Him to Court Over Tinubu Comment

A former presidential candidate and an activist, Omoyele Sowore has said he will answer in court after being sued by the Department of State Services, DSS over a post he made calling President Bola Tinubu a criminal.
Recall that we had earlier reported that the DSS on Tuesday instituted a five-count charge at the Federal High Court in Abuja against Sowore and social media platforms X, Meta (parent company of Facebook).
The charges, marked FHC/ABJ/CR/484/2015, were instituted by the Federal Republic of Nigeria as complainant, with Sowore, X Inc., and Meta Inc. listed as defendants.
In his reaction, Sowore said he would be present whenever he is needed in court.
“The State Security Service, alias @OfficialDSSNG today filed a 5-count charge at the Federal High Court in Abuja against ‘@X’ (formerly @Twitter), @facebook , and myself,” he wrote on X.
“They claimed that because I called @officialABAT a criminal, I have somehow committed a set of “novel” offences they invented and spread across five counts.

“It’s hard to believe there’s anyone sensible left in these offices that should be making Nigeria work. Regardless, I will be present whenever this case is assigned for trial. #RevolutionNow.”
Sowore had earlier revealed he was written by the security outfit who demanded of him to remove the post against the President and tender an unreserved apology.
The activist, however vowed never to remove his post nor apologize.

DSS Files Five Charges Against Sowore

The Department of State Services (DSS) has filed five-count legal action at the Federal High Court in Abuja against human rights activist, Omoyele Sowore.
The DSS also included some social media platforms like 𝕏 (Twitter), Meta (Facebook) as defendants over Sowore’s post against President Bola Tinubu.
The charge sheet states that Sowore is alleged to have used his official 𝕏 account and his Facebook page on August 25 and 26, 2025, to post comments labelling President Tinubu as a “criminal” and accusing him of dishonesty regarding corruption during an official visit to Brazil.
Court documents sighted on Tuesday revealed that the charges, marked FHC/ABJ/CR/484/2015, were instituted by the Federal Republic of Nigeria as complainant, with Sowore, 𝕏 Inc., and Meta Inc. listed as defendants.
The DSS alleged that the posts were false, defamatory, and capable of inciting public disorder, thereby violating provisions of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc) Amendment Act, 2024, as well as sections of the Criminal Code Act.
Count one and two of the charge accuse Sowore of knowingly posting false information on both platforms to cause a breakdown of law and order. Counts three and four specifically allege defamation against the person and reputation of President Tinubu. Count five charges Sowore with publishing false information with intent to cause public fear and disturbance.

You Can’t Tell Me How To Criticise Tinubu – Sowore Replies DSS

Human rights activist and former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore has refused the Department of State Services’ (DSS) demand to withdraw a social media post criticizing President Bola Tinubu.

Sowore said DSS has no business telling him how to criticise the President.

“You have no business telling me how to criticise the President. But, knowing the nature of your service, it is clear you have not learnt your lessons. Let me state it clearly once again: the determination of the Nigerian people to reclaim their country from thieves in power is unwavering. And it shall be achieved. Freedom cometh by struggle. Aluta continua, victoria ascerta,” Sowore said.

In a letter addressed to the DSS Director General, Sowore dismissed the agency’s request as unlawful and an attempt to act as a proxy for the president.

Sowore said the DSS had a long history of repression against him, recounting several instances of alleged rights violations dating back to his days as a student leader in the 1990s.

He cited arrests in 1993, 1996, and 2019, including his detention on allegations of treason and money laundering, as well as the invasion of a Federal High Court during his trial.

He accused the DSS of acting “bullishly, illegally and unlawfully” under successive governments and said its attempt to demand a retraction on behalf of Tinubu was “fundamentally defective” and unconstitutional.

“The DSS has dragged me through unscrupulous abuse and gross violations of rights for decades without remorse,”
Sowore wrote.

Quoting constitutional provisions and African human rights treaties, he argued that freedom of speech protects citizens’ right to criticize public officials. He said defamation is a personal matter and cannot be pursued by the DSS on behalf of the president.

He added that his criticism of government was consistent with his long-standing activism and political convictions, insisting that Nigerians remain determined to reclaim the country from “thieves in power.”

DSS Summons Sowore Over Post on Tinubu

The Department of State Services (DSS) has reportedly summoned activist and Sahara Reporters publisher, Omoyele Sowore.
According to TheNation, DSS summoned him over what it described as a “false and malicious” social media post directed at President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Recall that Sowore took to X to few days ago to slam President Tinubu, describing him as a “criminal.”
The Nation reported that in a letter dated September 7, 2025, signed by Uwem Davies on behalf of the Director-General, the DSS demanded that Sowore retract his statement on X (formerly Twitter) and issue a public apology within one week.
The Service accused Sowore of calling the President a “criminal” in an August 26 post, where he allegedly ridiculed Tinubu’s anti-corruption remarks during his visit to Brazil. According to the DSS, the comment was “repugnant, derogatory and capable of inciting public disturbance.”
The letter outlined conditions for compliance, requiring Sowore to post an unequivocal retraction on X, publish apologies in at least two national newspapers and two television stations, and submit a representation to the DSS headquarters in Abuja or by email. The agency also copied the United States Embassy in Abuja on the matter.
The DSS warned that Sowore’s comments had the potential to diminish the President’s standing domestically and internationally, and could provoke disunity, insurrection, or a breakdown of law and order.

“Persons of your status who are campaigning to lead this country must exercise restraint and responsibility in their speech,” the Service stated, adding that failure to comply would invite lawful action.

They Want To K!ll Me – Sunday Igboho Speaks On DSS Raid

Sunday Adeyemo, the Yoruba freedom fighter, who is popularly known as Igboho, has claimed that the Department of State Services (DSS) invaded his home in an attempt to k!ll him.

Igboho was declared wanted after confronting Fulani herders accused of k!lling farmers in the South-West, as well as for championing the Yoruba Nation agitation.

On July 1, 2021, DSS operatives stormed his residence in Ibadan, Oyo State, in an effort to arrest him.

During the raid, the activist evaded capture and later fled to Benin Republic, where he was arrested at the airport while attempting to travel to Germany. He subsequently faced trial there before being released following interventions by Nigerian leaders.

Igboho, however, claimed that the operatives fired multiple shots at him during the invasion but that divine intervention saved his life.

Speaking at the palace of the Olowo of Owo, Oba Ajibade Gbadegesin Ogunoye III, he said: “When my house was invaded, they wanted to k!ll me but failed. Some said my intestines were shattered, others said my leg was broken, but there was nothing of such.

“They fired guns at me very well, but the prayers of you, my fathers, on me were answered.”

Court Fixes Aug 15 To Hear Case On Emefiele’s Detention

The Federal High Court has fixed August 15 to hear applications regarding the custody of Godwin Emefiele the suspended governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

The presiding judge, Nicholas Oweibo on Thursday adjourned the hearing of the applications filed by the federal government and counsels to Emefiele.

Emefiele on the 25th of July was arraigned on a two-count charge bordering on “illegal possession” of firearms at a federal high court in Ikoyi and was granted bail in the sum of N20 million.

The Judge in his ruling ordered that Emefiele be kept in the custody of the Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS) pending the fulfillment of his bail conditions.

However, the Department of State Services (DSS) insisted that Emefiele must return to its custody.

The development led to a face-off between the secret police and prison officials. After the face-off, DSS rearrested Emefiele on the court premises.

The Secret Service proceeded to file an application before a high court of the federal capital territory seeking to further detain Emefiele.

The application was struck out after it was withdrawn by the service over jurisdictional concerns.

The Federal Government on the 3rd of August filed an application before the federal high court in Lagos, seeking leave to appeal the order granting bail to Emefiele.

In the application filed by a deputy director of public prosecutions of the federation, Nkiru Jones-Nebo, the federal government also sought a stay of execution of the order remanding Emefiele in the custody of the NCoS.

The federal government wants the court to remand Emefiele in the custody of the DSS.

In the application filed by Emefiele’s counsels, they asked the court to restrain the federal government from further prosecuting their client.

They said the federal government is in “brazen disobedience” of the subsisting orders of the court granting Emefiele bail on July 25.

During proceedings on Thursday, K.A. Fagbemi, the prosecuting counsel, asked the court to hear the federal government’s application seeking a stay of execution of the court order on Emefiele’s bail.

Fagbemi said the federal government filed its application first and served it on the defence counsels on August 4.

The counsel to Emefiele, Victor Opara in his response said priority should not be given to the federal government based on the time of filing since the court order was disobeyed.

Opara argued that the applications of both parties should be entertained on the same day.

He added that the federal government has nothing to lose since the defendant is in its custody.

After listening to both arguments, the judge ruled that the applications filed by both parties will be heard on August 15.

DSS Ignores Court Order, Returns Emefiele to Custody

The Department of State Services, has ignored an order of a court and returned the suspended governor of the Central Bank, CBN, Godwin Emefiele to custody, according to Punch.
The order by the Federal High Court sitting in Lagos had granted Emefiele bail.
The court had earlier granted bail to Emefiele after he pleaded not guilty to the two counts charge bordering on the alleged illegal possession of firearms and ammunition.
Justice Nicholas Oweibo who granted the bail, ordered that Emefiele be remanded in prison until he fulfils his bail conditions.
However, officials of the secret police and their counterparts in the Nigerian Correctional Services were engaged in a physical fight over who would move Emefiele from the court.
A few minutes ago, officials of the DSS succeeded in taking the suspended governor of the apex bank away from the court.
