How Lagos Commissioner, Tokunbo Wahab Reacted After BBNaija Star, Tacha, Slammed Govt For Arresting Child Beggars

Lagos State Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, has defended the state government’s decision to arrest street beggars.

The drama began on Wednesday, January 7, when Wahab shared a video showing the moment a child beggar was arrested by men of the state’s environmental taskforce.

He posted the video with the caption: ‘’The raid on street beggars and urchins has continued along the Lekki–Ajah Expressway and in other parts of Lagos, as part of ongoing enforcement efforts to restore order, ensure public safety, and keep our roads and public spaces clear.”

The video moved some Nigerians as it showed the child weeping after he was apprehended.

Reality TV star, Tacha while reacting to the video, questioned the reasoning behind arresting child beggars. According to her, the question should be why are the kids in the streets in the first place. She argued that arresting beggars doesn’t fix anything but only adds fear to poverty. She stated that if the government is serious, it would be setting up proper vocational centres with boarding homes, teach them real skills, shoe making, designing, photography, videography etc

‘’The first question shouldn’t be why arrest these kids? It should be why are they on the streets in the first place?

These children are on the streets because the government failed them.. Along the Lekki–Epe Expressway alone, you’ll see hundreds of kids begging every single day.

Some get hit by cars. Some get injured. Some don’t make it home..

shouldn’t they be in school? Instead, they’re dodging traffic to survive government failure.

Arresting them doesn’t fix anything. It only adds FEAR to poverty. If we were serious, the Lagos State Government would be setting up proper vocational centres with boarding homes, teach them real skills, shoe making, designing, photography, videography.. i mean, give them options.

You don’t solve poverty with force. You don’t punish people for surviving.

If anyone deserves arrest, it’s the officials who looted public funds and left children with no choice but the streets!” she wrote

Responding to her comment, Wahab emphasised that it is not the duty of government to parent recalcitrant children.

He wrote: ‘’Dear Tacha, Thank you fo your concern.

Advocacy and enforcement cannot be approached with emotion or knee-jerk reactions. They must be guided by law, data, and long-term social responsibility.

No one disputes the reality of poverty or the dangers children face on our highways. The presence of minors on major expressways like Lekki–Epe is precisely why intervention is necessary, not why enforcement should be abandoned. Leaving children to dodge speeding vehicles in the name of compassion is not empathy; it is neglect.

To start with, Lagos State public schools are tuition free with free payment for their WAEC examination. Also, Lagos has existing free technical colleges, vocational centres, and skills-acquisition programmes across the state, many of which teach trades such as shoemaking, fashion, photography, ICT, and creative arts. Beyond government facilities, community leaders, NGOs, religious bodies, and even elected officials across the State routinely organise free training and empowerment programmes. These interventions may not be perfect, but it is inaccurate to suggest that nothing exists.

It may interest you to know that each time these kids are apprehended, they are profiled, some are returned to their parents who mostly are not living in Lagos, while others who are interested in learning skills are giving free admission through the Lagos State Ministry of Youth and Social Development. However, the role of the government is not to parent recalcitrant children.

Dear Tacha, beyond social media and like every other person who have partnered with the state, we would be willing to work with you and others alike to contribute to taken kids like this off the street. Kindly reach out to me or the Commissioner for Youth and Social Development @Mo_ogunlende

Thank you! ‘’

Phyna Reveals Why She Won’t Advise Anyone To Go For BBNaija (Video)

Big Brother Naija Season 7 winner, Phyna, has disclosed that she no longer encourages anyone to audition for the popular reality TV show.

She shared that even though the show can bring quick fame, the attention given to housemates usually fades once they leave the house.

Phyna during a livestream on Twitch said that many fans simply move on to the next set of contestants each season, which makes it hard for ex-housemates to maintain the same level of attention they once had during the show.

She also shared that the value people once attached to being a BBNaija star is no longer the same as before, as public perception has changed over time.

According to her, many people believe that life after the show means instant success, but this is not always the case.

She explained that a lot of former housemates struggle quietly, even though social media may paint a different picture filled with luxury and comfort.

Phyna said that the real experience outside the house is often very different from the glam viewers see on screen.

For this reason, she said anyone planning to audition should fully understand the pressure that comes with fame and the tough reality that may follow after the season ends.

She said: “The steeze housemates do have on the show they don’t have it again, because it’s the same fan base that move from one to another, no new people, nothing new. It’s just the same people.

“And that aside, the show has lost credibility compared to the way it was before, because when you tell someone now that I came out of BBNaija, they won’t rate you like they do then.”

My Mum Didn’t Want Me To Play Basketball – BBNaija Star, Kaybobo Opens Up

Kayode Oladele, a former Big Brother Naija (BBNaija) Season 10 housemate, popularly known as Kaybobo, has revealed that his mother was initially against him playing basketball until his coach persuaded her otherwise.

Kaybobo stated this while addressing members of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Ekiti State chapter, in Ado-Ekiti.

He assured youths in Ekiti of his readiness to promote sports through his Kaybobo Youth Foundation.

The BBNaija star, who hails from Ado-Ekiti, said he played basketball for Christ School and All Souls Secondary School, Ado-Ekiti, while growing up, and it gave him international recognition.

He said his decision to set up a foundation to assist Ekiti youths, especially those in sports, was to encourage, develop and nurture them to become renowned talents.

“My name is Kayode Oladele, popularly called Kaybobo. I grew up in Ado-Ekiti. Also, I learnt how to play basketball with the help of my coach, Tayo Awojurin.

“His training and unconditional support modified my career from Ekiti to Lagos, and from there to overseas, where I obtained different university degrees and made lots of exploits.

“This is why I came back home to give back to the youths who love to engage in sports and other creative ventures in other fields such as entertainment, fashion among others.

“I am assuring every youth in Ekiti who wishes to play basketball that I am going to support them to become professional players and sports personalities,” he said.

Kaybobo urged parents to give their children unconditional support and opportunity to engage in sports.

He explained that his mother wanted to stop him from playing basketball while in secondary school but his coach convinced her and she gave him full support.

“My mummy does not want me to play basketball then, it was through the intervention of Coach Awojurin that convinced her, if not I would not have reached the level I am today,” he added.

The former BBNaija housemate said aside from sports, he would venture into fashion, entertainment, tourism and arts to promote all the sectors as an Ekiti indigene.

Kaybobo gave out 20 pieces of customised caps to members of SWAN in Ekiti.

He assured members that he would continue to support and partner with the association to promote sports in the state.

Reacting, the Chairman of SWAN, Qozeem Oladapo, thanked him for the kind gesture.

Oladapo assured the former BBNaija housemate that the associa

How BBNaija Star, Queen Mercy Reacted After A Follower Accused Her Of Ruining Her Marriage

Drama erupted when a follower emotionally accused BBNaija star Queen Mercy of failing to protect her marriage, alleging that she was being labelled a prostitute in the US and described as someone who couldn’t stay with a man.

The follower wrote that they were “tired of defending her,” heartbroken over the end of her marriage, and now being mocked by people they had argued with in Queen’s defence.

A follower responded by addressing the commenter directly, asking them to stop kicking someone who is already down and reminding them that she’s going through a difficult moment.

She then explained that her last visit to the United States was back in 2017/2018 — long before fame — when she stayed briefly with her aunty in Houston before heading to Florida for a pageant. At the time, she was a regular pageant contestant with no visibility, so she questioned where exactly anyone in the US supposedly saw her to label her a prostitute.

Queen admitted her family would be upset that she responded publicly, but she felt the need to clarify the situation.

She said she’s been called all sorts of names since she left Big Brother Naija, and people keep acting like she committed a crime on the show. According to her, if another All Stars season ever comes up, she’s ready to return without fear.

Addressing claims that she posted online to spite her child’s father, Queen explained that she had never posted him before. When she shared her wedding pictures, she was simply excited—just like any bride would be. She insisted she never intended to “pepper” anyone.

On accusations that she isn’t ready for marriage because of the roles she plays in movies, Queen stated that she has featured in only a few films and has never acted deep kissing or overly romantic scenes. She challenged anyone who believes otherwise to bring proof.

She also said people drag her for dancing and twerking on TikTok, but dancing makes her genuinely happy, so she won’t stop.

Queen concluded by saying being a “good girl” never paid her.

How Being Tagged ‘Arrogant’ Has Cost Me A Lot And Affected My Brand – BBNaija Star, CeeC Opens Up (Video)

Reality TV star Cynthia Nwadiora, popularly known as CeeC, has reflected on how people perceive her personality, revealing that many fans often misinterpret her confidence as arrogance.

The former Big Brother Naija housemate shared her thoughts during a chat with Teddy A on the Echo Room podcast.

During the conversation, she explained that living in Nigeria comes with a challenge where people easily follow negative labels without taking time to know a person.

She said that once someone is tagged as a bad person, many others accept it without meeting the individual involved.

Ceec said this has affected how some people see her brand, as many assume she is arrogant even before having any personal interaction with her.

She added that anyone who meets her in person will realise she is different from the image created online and will likely change their opinion about her.

She also mentioned that she tries her best to give people a better understanding of who she is whenever they meet her, hoping they leave with a clearer and more accurate impression.

She said: “As I said, I usually live in Nigeria, where a lot of people follow the bad work. Like if somebody says Oh, this person is a bad person, people don’t even wait to experience you. They just, oh yeah, they say she’s a bad person.

“So people don’t actually get to know you. So yeah, a lot of people see my confidence as being arrogant.

“But I would say something that you cannot meet me in person or experience me as a person, and go home and say I’m arrogant. You would definitely have a change of mindset about me.

“So it has cost me a lot, because I hear some people say, oh, that one, she’s just arrogant. You don’t even know me, but that’s what you, you know, like.

“So it has, but one thing that I’ve tried to do is I make sure that when you meet me, when you give me the grace to get to know me, you will not go home feeling that way.”

I Missed Out On BBNaija In 2020 After Testing Positive For COVID-19 – Liquorose Reveals

Nigerian dancer and former BBNaija housemate Roseline Omokhoa Afije, widely known as Liquorose, has disclosed that her earlier attempts to join the reality show were unsuccessful before she finally made it in 2021.

She shared that she came close to participating in the show in 2020 and was already waiting backstage to be introduced during the launch, but the organisers still snubbed her at that point.

Liquorose stated that the incident made her depressed and she almost gave up on her dream of participating on the show.

“In 2020, I was backstage at the BBNaija opening show. I was dressed up and make up done, but I was not called. That really hurt me,” she said in a recent podcast interview with VJ Adams.

Liquorose and another potential housemate, Jaypaul were barred from posting in the 2020 edition of the reality show after testing positive to COVID-19.

However, the duo made it to the show after auditioning the following year.

Liquorose revealed that she almost refused to audition the next year, but was convinced by a friend to audition again.

“That experience was messing with me. So, the following year, I didn’t even want to audition but my friend convinced me to try. I just auditioned and forgot about it. I just went to check my spam one day and I discovered that I have been selected. It was crazy,”
she recalled.

Liquorose emerged as the runner-up of Big Brother Naija Season 5 in 2021 after losing the grand prize to Whitemoney.

BBNaija Star, Imisi’s Mother Speaks On Abandoning Daughter Before BBNaija Win

The mother of BBNaija Season 10 winner Imisi Ayanwale has responded to allegations that she abandoned her daughter and resurfaced only after Imisi gained fame and wealth.

The issue gained attention after rumours spread online saying she had left her daughter behind and returned only following her success.

In a video shared widely, she thanked God and Nigerians for their support during challenging times.

She explained that she has been living quietly with her younger sister in Ajah, receiving help and hospitality from people who welcomed her, provided food, and clothing.

She described her time as peaceful despite the criticism she faced.

Responding to those who accused her of neglect, she said her decision to remain silent was intentional and a matter of prudence, not guilt.

She recounted that she was informed about Imisi’s win from the Big Brother house only a few hours before it happened and had little time to prepare.

She concluded by appealing to the public to treat one another with kindness and understanding instead of spreading hate.

She said: “I’ve received mercy from God. Thank you so much to all Nigerians I’m truly grateful. I’m staying with my younger sister in Ajah. Even though some people didn’t want me around, others welcomed me, clothed me, and fed me. I’ve been happy and at peace.

“Some people said I neglected my children. I’m thankful to both those who mean well and those who don’t. The elders say we should be swift to hear but slow to reply, and the Bible teaches us to always stand for the truth.

“Adeola that promised them the other day is no longer available, and now I’m the one they’re after. The same Adeola is now following Opeyemi; she didn’t fulfill any of her promises. I was the one running helter-skelter, doing everything just to make sure my daughter succeeded and could lift me out of poverty.

“Even the day I went to Big Brother, I wasn’t told until the last minute, around 4 p.m., to dress up because Imisi would be leaving the house that day. Is that how it’s supposed to be?

“Let’s learn to bridle our tongues and stop tearing each other down. Why can’t we just live in love instead of envy and hate?”
