If You See Basketmouth, Tell Him He’s My Gee For Life — AY

Nigerian comedian and actor, AY Makun is extending the olive branch to his colleague, Basketmouth, following their long-time beef.

It would be recalled that AY had in an interview addressed their 17-year beef and how it was birthed after which Basketmouth refused to submit to his call for a resolution.

In a recent comedy show, the issue was tabled once again as the comedian whose real name is Richard Makun sent a note of peace offering.

He stated that their relationship is not beef while sighting examples like the case of Tupac Shakur and B.I.G in the 1990s which can be called such.

AY Makun concluded the show by saying, “if you see Basketmouth, tell him he’s my gee for life.”

Top Nigerian comedian, Bovi has reacted to a throwback photo of his colleagues, Basketmouth and AY who are at loggerheads.

Bright Okpocha popularly known as Basketmouth and Ayo Makun aka AY, have been beefing each other for 17 years, over an incident that happened in 2006.

Basketmouth, however, refuted AY’s claim, saying he didn’t invite AY nor his wife to the wedding. He said that a lot of his friends had warned him about AY, calling him a snake who would only shed his skin to become a bigger snake.

Basket added that they have never been friends, as there has never been a day he called on AY to hang out. To buttress his point, Basket said that there is no photo of both of them together.

However, an old picture of both comedians surfaced online yesterday, and Nigerians have been talking about it.

Reacting to the photo, Bovi said it was taken in 2004 and insinuated that Basketmouth was the celebrity who took a photo with a ‘fan,’ AY.

AY said the nightclub business crashed after investing N500 million into it.

The famous comedian made the disclosure in a recent interview with media personality, Chude Jideonwo.

AY revealed that his wife had opposed the business idea but he failed to heed.

He said: “I woke up one day and I said to myself, ‘it’s time to open a nightclub’, ‘AY, if you can gather 6,000 people at Eko Hotel, what’s in a club that you can’t just gather 100 to 200 people buying drinks

“I think God just wanted me to know that ‘this one is not your calling’, ‘you are the one calling yourself’.

“It is good to have the right partner, my wife was strongly against it. I said, ‘No, it is good for networking and PR’. Shout out to all the guys who are doing it and getting it right.

“But I thought then that when I come, I am just going take all of them out of the market. It was a huge investment running to about N500 million.

“We put everything in place, the staff strength was solid, the interior was crazy and I will go there every Friday, I will look at the door and I am not seeing people coming.

“The opening was grand and massive. I started with a non-smoking club; I didn’t know that all these things go together.

“The wise ones will call me, and I will tell them that sometimes when I take my wife to the club when we get back her hair will be smelling of smoke, and women should have their wigs neat’. Long story short, I saw my ‘period’, it was very bad,” AY disclosed.

Comedian, AY Opens Up On His Beef With Colleague Basketmouth, Makes New Revelations

AY Makun, the popular Nigerian comedian and actor, has opened up about his ‘beef’ with his colleague, Basketmouth.

He spoke very candidly about the genesis of the long-lasting feud between him and Basketmouth during an intervuew with media personality, Chude Jideonwo.

Recall that AY, during an Instagram question and answer session in 2022, said Basketmouth has an “uncontrollable superiority complex.”

Not stopping there, he noted that he (AY) had to avoid Basketmouth’s “incessant childishness” for his own sanity.

“I don’t have issues with him. But people having unnecessary issues with you is the price you sometimes pay for being progressive. He has been battling with his uncontrollable SUPERIORITY COMPLEX for the longest. So avoiding his incessant childishness only became necessary for my own sanity.” AY replied a fan who asked if he had issues with Basketmouth.

Well, shedding light on the controversial statement in a recent chat with media personality Chude Jideonwo, AY revealed his issue with Basketmouth started in 2006.

He narrated how he had gone to stand in for Basketmouth at an event that he was supposed to pay him N30,000 for, but Basketmouth lied to him that the event host wasn’t pleased with his job to avoid paying the money.

Read his full narration below.

“In 2006, (Basketmouth) usually will get gigs Iike weddings- multiple gigs on a Saturday, maybe 2/3 weddings. So what he used to do at that point in time was to attend one, then at a point, leave the venue and catch up in the other venue and then you will need someone else to stand in for you. That was the opportunity 1 got from him of which I am very appreciative of till date.

“Now, Something funny happened. One of the gigs per say, I got his endorsement to go stand in. Usually what we get at that time is N30,000 and 30,000 at that time was everything to me. 30,000 would buy me my pack of indomie, recharge cards, fuel for my 1 better pass my neighbor generator and then opportunity to pay just one or two people to join me to do one or two skits that I can just quickly put out.

“I got this job and the people weren’t too happy to see me around the venue because they were expecting a Basketmouth to come. Long story short, the guy was later happy after the performance. There was an exchange of contacts. Then I left. Two weeks running, I haven’t seen 30k. Because I didn’t see the 30k, and I was starving in lponri, I decided to ask for 30K and he said this person hasn’t remitted, this person hasn’t paid, you they’ re not happy because of this and all of that.

“And then me l was like, ahahn… but this person na, shebi you tell me say you were impressed and happy? Give my oga hin money na, make my oga take settle me and all of that. Me,I dont care if you give Basket 100k for the job but my 30k is my 30k.

“It was very funny to now hear from them knowing that this full payment has been made long before the event.

“I said ‘0-kay, is that the situation?’. So I forwarded this one’s message to this one and vice versa. So they now started fighting each other and all of that. 1 didn’t do that because I wanted to get at Basketmouth per say. I did that because I was hungry, I was hustling and needed food on the table at the time.”
