BREAKING: House Of Reps Candidate Dies 4 Days To Election

Alhaji Kamilu Ado Isa, the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) candidate in Wudil/Garko Constituency of the House of Representatives, has died.

Isa, a former Assistant Comptroller General of Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), died after a brief illness on Monday.

His death occurred four days to the presidential, senatorial and House of Representatives elections.

In a condolence message to his family, Presidential candidate of the NNPP, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, described his demise as a huge vacuum that cannot be replaced.

He said the candidate dedicated his time, wealth and energy to the success of the party and his immediate community, praying for God Almighty to forgive his shortcomings.

“I am saddened by the loss of Hon. Kamilu Ado Isah, the NNPP House of Representatives Candidate for Wudil/Garko constituency.

“May the Almighty Allah forgive his shortcomings and grant him eternal peace. My condolence to his family, friends and the NNPP Kano Chapter,” he said.

The deceased has been buried according to Islamic rites.

BREAKING: Terrorists Bomb Kogi LG Offices Days To Election

Some yet-to-be-identified gunmen have attacked and blown off the administrative offices of the Okehi Local Government Area of Kogi State, less than four days to the February general election.

DAILY POST reports that the incident occurred on Monday night when the assailants invaded the area with some explosives.

When contacted by DAILY POST, the Kogi State Police Public Relations Officer, William Ovye Aya, confirmed the incident.

According to him, the command had commenced an investigation to unravel the cause of the attack.

Recall that the Islamic State-backed faction of Boko Haram, the Islamic State West Africa Province, ISWAP, had claimed responsibility for a car bomb explosion that killed about four people and injured several others in the Okene Local Government Area of Kogi State in January.

Anambra Police Declare NYSC Member Wanted

Emeh Nnamdi Daniel, a serving Corps member, has been declared wanted

He was declared wanted by the Anambra State Police Command for alleged unlawful possession of firearm, money laundering, defamation of character, fraud, and Impersonation.

Spokesperson of the police in the state, DSP Ikenga Tochukwu, who made this known in a statement on Monday, February 20, 2023, said Mr. Daniel is allegedly involved in an ongoing investigation in the command.

“Today 20/2/2023 wishes to declare Mr Emeh Nnamdi Daniel, aged 26 years old wanted on the offence of unlawful possession of a firearm, money laundering, defamation of character, fraud, and Impersonation,” the statement read.

“Mr. Nnamdi Daniel is a youth corp member with State *Code Number AN/22A/3323,* attached to Anambra State Police Command and is positively identified, involve/mentioned in an ongoing investigation in the command. 

“Therefore, the Command urges the general public to report to the nearest Police Station, if seen or call the Command Control Room number at *07039194332* or the PPRO at *08039334002* if you have any information that can aid in his location for arrest, please. *Confidentiality is guaranteed.”

BREAKING: Again, Protest Rocks Ogun Over Naira Scarcity, Banks Burnt

Once again, serious protest has take  over Ogun State over the naira scarcity.

Videos online show two banks set on fire in the Sagamu area of the state.

The videos shared on Monday showed many residents watching as Keystone and Union banks were set ablaze with some youths holding planks in protest.

On Friday last week, The PUNCH had reported how protest erupted in the Mowe-Ibafo area of Ogun State, with many residents blocking the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in protest of the woes and hardship caused by the lingering scarcity of the naira.

Reacting to the development, a Twitter user, @arranowanna wrote, “Kindly advise your friends, families and acquaintances to avoid any protests. Take your frustration to the ballots on Saturday. Don’t burn banks, don’t burn petrol stations, don’t burn government properties.”

Another user, @morningstar_305 wrote, “I just put a call through to the house and it was confirmed to me that keystone bank and union bank at ijoku has been set ablaze by angry citizens.”

While popular tweep, Pooja, wrote, “If you are in Sagamu, be careful cos there is a protest on new naira notes.”

Meanwhile, on Thursday last week, the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), in a national broadcast had said the old N500 and N1,000 notes were no longer legal tender in the country, however extending the validity of the old N200 note for 60 days, till April 10, 2023.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Bola Oyeyemi, could not be reached as at the time of filing this report, as phone calls to his line were not responded to.

8 Madonna University students die in an accident

About eight Madonna University students have reportedly died in a fatal accident while on their way to Taraba State.

According to reports gathered the incident happened on Saturday, February 18th, 2023. The students were said to have been sent home in the wake of the upcoming general elections.

A source who shared the information reports that the accident happened at TTC/Special Science school junction along the trans-Saharan road, Abakaliki, Ebonyi state. The bus conveying the students was said to have caught a fight and got burnt beyond recognition.

After the accident, eight have been reported dead while ten students have reportedly survived and were rushed to the Alex Ekwueme Teaching Hospital Hospital in Ebonyi State.

One of the parents of the deceased took to his page to express pain over the loss of his daughter. He wrote;

“Grace Usman Ezra, I never knew sending you to Madonna university will lead to your untimely dead.18 of you left Madonna to jalingo yesterday only to hear the news that your bus had an accident and caught fire,8 out of 18 came out from the bus. It is well with 10 of you and the rest that are alive,I pray for your speedy recovery and my God comfort us all that lost our children.”

36 People Killed As Heavy Rain Causes Flooding And Landslides In Brazil

In what will come across as a really startling development, as many as 36 people have been killed in Brazil.

A seven-year-old girl was among the dead as rescue workers continue to look for victims and reconnect isolated communities in Sao Paulo state , authorities say.

The mayor of Sao Sebastiao, Felipe Augusto, said 50 houses had collapsed in the city due to the landslides.

Sao Paulo state government said rain in the region had surpassed 600mm (23.6in) in one day, one of the highest amounts ever in Brazil in such a short period.

Weather forecasts show heavy rains will continue in Sao Paulo’s coastal area, challenging rescue teams and raising the prospect of more confirmed deaths.

Sao Paulo state has declared a 180-day state of emergency for six cities after what experts described as an unprecedented, extreme weather event.

According to the weather forecast, heavy rains would continue to lash the coastal area of São Paulo, throwing a challenge to the civil defence and the fire department rescue teams.

São Paulo state government said precipitation in the region had surpassed 600mm, (23.6 inches) in one day, one of the highest amounts ever in Brazil in such a short period.

Felipe Augusto, the mayor of São Sebastião said: “Our rescue teams are not managing to get to several locations; it is a chaotic situation.”

He later added that there were dozens of people missing and that 50 houses collapsed in the city due to the landslides.

Mr. Augusto posted on social media several videos of widespread destruction in his city, including one of a baby being rescued by locals lined up on a flooded street.

Driver Crashes Into Fence While Trying To Win N500K Bet In Lekki

A driver crashed his car while attempting to win a bet that involved flying over a fence with his vehicle in Lagos.

The driver reportedly engaged in a bet with a group who dared him to drive his car across a short fence with a cash prize of N500K placed as bet.

According to an eye witness, the incident happened at the Marwa bus stop in Eti-Osa LGA Lagos. The driver was said to have sped across the street after accepting the bet with the zeal of winning the money.

Unfortunately, he was unable to jump over the fence and ended up with his car standing on its nose.

POS vendor accosted by angry Nigerians over N4K charges on N10K cash withdrawal

A group of angry Nigerians confronts a POS vendor for requesting N4K charges on N10K cash withdrawal amidst scarcity of new Naira notes.

The Naira note scarcity continues following the redesign of Nigeria’s currency by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). A video making the rounds on social media captured the moment a POS point was scattered over exorbitant charges.

The customers accused the POS vendor of being unnecessarily greedy and extorting her fellow Nigerians. She, however, argued that the charges decision was an order from her boss.

Her workspace was scattered as the obviously livid Nigerians blamed her and her boss for being part of the country’s problem.

South African rapper, AKA, has been shot and killed in Durban.

AKA was expected to perform at his birthday party on Friday.

However, he was accosted by unknown gunmen who fatally him several times, in what appears to be a hit, outside a restaurant on Florida Road. The event has since been cancelled

Another person believed to be AKA’s bodyguard, was also wounded, while another unidentified person, who is understood to be a close friend of AKA,has been shot dead.

It is understood that AKA was standing outside the Wish Restaurant when he was gunned down in a drive-by shooting.

Two unknown cars are believed to have opened fire on the rapper.

Several police sources confirmed the rapper’s death. 

The shooting happened just before 10pm.

Police had cordoned off the area when an IOL team arrived at the scene on Friday night.

Speaking to IOL, stunned patrons at a nearby restaurant confirmed AKA had been standing outside Wish when he was gunned down.

Garrith Jamieson, a spokesperson for ALS Paramedics said Florida Road has been closed off after the shooting incident Florida Road where two people have been confirmed deceased.

Edwin Kibet Koech of Kenya has won the 8th edition of the Access Bank Lagos City Marathon.

Kibet beat about 300 marathoners on Saturday morning, February 4, 2023, to win the 42km with a time of 2:14:14secs.

He will be claiming the grand prize of N23 million ($50,000).

Dekeba Shefa of Ethiopia and Kenya’s Bernard Sang finished second and third respectively, and will go home with $40,000 and $30,000 respectively.

Alemenseh Guta of Ethiopia was the first woman to cross the finish line, followed in second place by Kebene Urisa and Kenya’s Naomi Maiyo in third place.

The winners of both the men and women’s races qualified for marathon event at the 2024 Olympics in Paris.

Felicia Adetutu finished 10th in the women’s race and became the first Nigerian woman to cross the finish line.

She earned $2000 and N3 million respectively for both finishes.

The 42km race began at the National Stadium in Surulere and ended at the Eko Atlantic City in Victoria Island.

The annual event was recently upgraded by the world athletics body to a gold label; less than eight years after its maiden edition.

Geleta Ulfata of Ethiopia won the 2022 event while Emmaneul Naibei and David Barmasai won the 5th and 6th editions of the Access Bank Lagos City Marathon respectively.
