Carter Efe Beats Shanks to Become Africa’s Most-Followed Streamer on Twitch After Live Stream With Davido (Video)

Nigerian content creator and musician Oderhohwo Efe, popularly known as Carter Efe, has emerged as Africa’s most-followed streamer on Twitch.

He broke the record previously held by compatriot, Adesokan Emmanuel, known as Shank Comics.

The milestone followed a high-profile livestream collaboration with Afrobeats superstar, Davido, on Wednesday, which triggered a massive surge in followers.

Checks on Thursday showed that Efe now boasts over 406,000 followers on the platform.

Shank Comics, who set the previous record about six months ago, holds approximately 233,000 followers.

Efe, who had about 322,000 followers just a day earlier, gained roughly 160,000 followers in four days, a rise that stemmed directly from the announcement and execution of his joint stream with Davido.

The “Machala” crooner also reportedly broke the record for the most-watched Twitch livestream in Africa, with about 83,000 viewers, and became the first African streamer to surpass 20,000 subscribers on Twitch.

During the session, Davido connected Efe with notable figures, including his wife, nightlife mogul Cubana Chief Priest, and even called out the Twitch CEO Dan Clancy.

He also dialled Super Eagles striker, Victor Osimhen, for a lively on-stream chat.

Osimhen’s appearance added a sporting dimension to the stream, delighting fans who tuned in for the rare crossover between Nigeria’s music and football scenes.

The event took an unexpected turn when content creator Enzo burst in, challenging Efe to an impromptu boxing match to “prove” his loyalty to Davido’s 30BG fan base, a moment that generated widespread reactions across social media.

BBNaija Star, Queen And Her Family Narrowly Escape De@th as the POP In Their Living Room Collapses (Video)

Queen Mercy Atang, the Big Brother Naija star, is expressing deep gratitude after she and her family narrowly escaped a tragic accident caused by the collapse of her living room POP ceiling.

Sharing a video of the incident, Queen revealed that her younger sister and nanny were in the living room sewing when the POP collapsed, which left them running helter-skelter.

She recounted how her mother rushed into her room, telling her what happened.

Queen said she was frightened, but when she learnt that her sister and nanny were fine, her blood pressure came down.

Queen Mercy noted that just a few weeks ago, her garage POP fell, and now her sitting room POP has fallen.

She wrote: “7:58am God said, not this family.

Guys, I worked late into the night. I was at the airport picking up my girl, who had just arrived in Nigeria for her Guinness World Record project. Because of the limited time we have, we had to shoot all through the night.

I got home around 4am. When I arrived, my kid sister was still sewing. I remember telling my workers to sleep in the sitting room and go home once it was morning.

They both said they wanted to go home. The guy left, but I persuaded my girl to stay back; it’s not safe for a girl to be walking the road at night.

By 6 a.m. this morning, she had left. Meanwhile, my younger sister and my nanny were still awake sewing. Normally, she sews till morning and then sleeps off in the sitting room. I thank God they didn’t sleep there today.

They were still sewing when the POP ceiling fell. They both literally had to run for their lives.

They were still sewing when the POP ceiling fell. They both literally had to run for their lives.

I was trying to catch a few hours of sleep before starting my day when my mum rushed in to tell me what had just happened. The first thing I asked was, “Mommy, where is Doctor @dr_brightie and my nanny?” She replied, “They’re upstairs.” My blood pressure came down immediately.

A few weeks ago, it was my garage POP that fell. This morning, it’s my sitting room. Now, in the middle of all this, I’m planning my girl’s @kosi_ani Guinness World Record project, which kicks off this Friday.

As the coordinator of this event, my brain is literally everywhere. Figuring out how to move my family to a more comfortable space while also ensuring this project is a complete success.

Dear Lord, I am grateful

Thank You for Your love and Your protection.

I’m truly grateful”.

A Very Dirty Christmas – CAN Blows Hot Over Title Of New Nollywood Movie, Cautions Ini Edo

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has expressed outrage over the title of a new movie, A Very Dirty Christmas.

CAN said it considers the title offensive and disrespectful to the Christian faith.

The Christian body noted that Christmas is a sacred season that marks the birth of Jesus Christ and represents purity, peace, love and redemption, adding that linking such a holy celebration with the word “dirty” diminishes its spiritual meaning and reduces a solemn religious observance to something crude and sensational.

CAN, in a statement signed by Archbishop Daniel Okoh, its President, said while it respects creative freedom and artistic expression, such freedom must be exercised with responsibility and sensitivity, especially in a religiously diverse society like Nigeria.

It added that creativity should build understanding and unity, not provoke or offend deeply held beliefs.

The association said it is concerned that a film bearing such a title passed through regulatory and professional channels without adequate scrutiny.

CAN therefore called on the National Film and Video Censors Board, NFVCB, to “explain how the title was approved for public exhibition, particularly during the Christmas season”.

CAN also urged industry bodies such as the Actors Guild of Nigeria, AGN, and other stakeholders in Nollywood to take a clear stand on the use of religious themes and symbols in ways that may offend faith communities.

Furthermore, CAN called on “the producers and promoters of the film to reconsider the title, issue a public apology, and take deliberate steps to ensure that religious symbols and sacred seasons are treated with the dignity they deserve. In this regard”.

CAN urged the producer of the movie, Ini Edo, to show sensitivity and address the concerns raised by the Christian community.

“At a time when the nation is already facing serious moral and social challenges, actions that trivialise sacred values only deepen division and erode mutual respect,”
CAN added.

World-famous Nigerian singer, Davido has revealed how he collaborated with his colleague, Omah Lay, disclosing that before they worked together, Omah Lay came public about his doubts about Davido’s love for him.

Recall that last year Omah Lay revealed that he had assumed that Davido “hated” him until the DMW boss spinned his songs during his famous livestream with American streamer Kai Cenat in Lagos.

In a trending video broadcast, Davido explained that he reached out to Omah Lay after he saw his tweet. He added that their interactions led to their collaboration on ‘With You’.

“How Omah Lay and I got together was, Kai Cenat came to Nigeria and I was driving him to the club and then Omah Lay’s song comes up, and he was like, ‘Who is this?’

“I responded, ‘Oh! This is Omah Lay, he is hot.’ And then the next day, Omah Lay tweeted like, ‘Wow! Davido gave me a shoutout on a livestream, I thought he hated me.’ And I Dmed him, ‘Why would you think I hate you? We’ve never met.’

“We eventually, exchanged numbers and we were going back-and-forth with music. We did about four songs and he chose ‘With You’ as the one we would release,” he explained.

‘With You’ is one of the standout tracks of Davido’s fifth album, 5ive.
