Tiwa, who was moved by the tribute, became emotional and was captured in another video after the event singing and sharing a warm hug with Alade.

I Lost Endorsement Deal For Refusing To ‘Travel To Dubai’ With Company Owner – Tiwa Savage Reveals (Video)

Tiwa Savage, the popular Nigerian singer, has stated that one of the biggest challenges women face in the Nigerian music industry is the pressure to exchange s*x for career opportunities.

Speaking in a panel organised by Entertainment Week Africa, Savage said she has had experiences where she was told to go visit influential male executives before she could get booked for certain shows.

She also revealed that she once lost an endorsement deal for refusing to go on holiday to Dubai with the company’s co-owner.

Savage said the experience made her realise that some executives value her body more than her talent.

She said, “I had been told that if I don’t go and see ‘this chairman’ personally, I would not be put on a show. I lost an endorsement because I refused to go to Dubai with a man who is one of the owners of the company.

“That was when I realised that they don’t value my talent but my body, which I was only flaunting as part of branding. It ended up hurting me because that is all they were seeing.”

I Wasn’t Happy Being African – Tiwa Savage Recalls Growing Up In London

Nigerian singer Tiwa Savage has dismissed claims that Afrobeats is currently experiencing its worst run in the past two decades.

Reputable music executives, including Paul Okoye aka Paulo, and DJ Big N, have claimed that Afrobeats is declining in separate interviews and social media posts.

However, speaking at the Unstoppable Africans event recently, Savage boasted that Afrobeats is unstoppable.

She argued that contrary to claims that the genre was declining, it is gaining more grounds on charts and tours.

She also spoke about the cultural impact of Afrobeats, recalling that she used to be unhappy about being an African growing up in London, but the positive image Afrobeats is giving the continent has made her become proud of her race.

The singer noted that Afrobeats has achieved a lot despite not having enough support, structure or infrastructure.

“Afrobeats is the fastest growing genre in the world. We kind of created it with nothing; no support, no infrastructure, no real belief even from our own people initially.

“I remember growing up in London and I was not happy being African. But now I’m so proud because of how big Afrobeats is growing.

“There was a conversation at one point that Afrobeats is going to have its 15 minutes of fame and then fades away. But we are still here. We are not slowing down. In fact, we are filling out stadiums, and we are getting the biggest songs on the charts right now.

“I don’t know how true this is, but apparently one in every four black persons is a Nigerian or an African.

“So, we are not going anywhere. As much as they are trying to quiet us down, the music is not going anywhere. We are Africans and we are unstoppable,” she remarked.

Life Is Too Short – Seyi Shay Says She Is Ready To Reconcile With Tiwa Savage

Seyi Shay, the popular Nigerian singer, has revealed that she is open to reconciling with fellow artiste Tiwa Savage after years of tension between them.

She made this known in an interview with Saturday Punch, while responding to questions about their fallout and Tiwa’s recent remarks on the issue.

The songstress explained that her involvement in a Pepsi campaign years ago, which many believed caused a rift between them, was a brand decision and not a personal act.

She said she has never rejoiced over another woman’s challenges and has always respected Tiwa’s career and achievements in the music industry.

The Right Now crooner revealed that their past misunderstanding and diss track happened during a time when both artists were under pressure in a competitive industry.

She said that with time and maturity, she now sees that better communication could have prevented the clash.

According to her, she would have chosen dialogue over confrontation if given another chance.

The singer added that she is willing to have a private or public conversation with Tiwa to clear the air, saying that life is too short to hold onto tension.

She also said that reconciling could set a positive example for other women in music.

She said, “That period was purely a brand decision, not a personal one. I have never had any reason to celebrate another woman’s challenge or misfortune. I respect Tiwa’s journey deeply. She’s an incredible artist and a trailblazer. There’s no bad blood on my end; only respect and acknowledgement of her contribution to the industry.”

“We were both under pressure and navigating a very competitive industry. When emotions run high, it’s easy to miscommunicate or react defensively. Time and maturity have given both of us a clearer perspective. If I could go back, I would choose communication over confrontation.”

“Yes, I would. Life is too short for lingering tension. If having that conversation helps heal narratives and sets a better example for women in music, I’m open to it, whether privately or publicly. We’ve both come a long way, and I think there’s strength in showing that women can rise above old narratives.”

The dispute between the two stars dates back to 2021 when a video of their argument at a Lagos salon went viral.
