Peter Okoye, aka Mr P, the popular Nigerian singer who is also one half of P-Square music duo, has spoken about Wizkid.
He revealed the role he played in Grammy-award-winning superstar, Wizkid’s days of little beginning.
He said he had high hopes for Wizkid during his early days as an up-and-coming artist when he was signed to Banky W’s EME Records.
Mr P appeared on the latest episode of The 77 Podcast alongside his partner, Paul.
He recalled how he tackled some reporters from snubbing Wizkid when the ‘Ojuelegba’ crooner came to perform at one of their concerts as an opening artist years ago.
He said he told the reporters that Wizkid was going to dominate the music industry in the near future.
Mr P said, “We [P-Square] were never the type of artist that looked down on anybody. If you remember, there was a video that went viral where it was P-Square concert and Wizkid was opening for us. So, they [reporters] kept on interviewing only P-Square and we were like, okay, guys, hold on. What about him? They said… I said no, this guy is going to take over tomorrow.”
Wizkid is currently the most streamed African artist on Spotify, with over four billion streams. His song ‘Essence’, which featured Tems, is the longest-charting Nigerian song on the US Billboard Hot 100.
The pop duo of Paul and Peter Okoye of P-Square fame have made a new claim.
They claimed they pioneered global tours, selling out stadiums and signing multimillion-dollar deals in the Nigerian music industry.
The twin musical duo stated this while featuring on the latest episode of The 77 Podcast.
Paul said, “Don’t forget who dominated the [music] industry for a long time. We [PSquare] held it down for nearly 13,14 years. We were there. Up there.
“In fact, we started doing traveling around the world, doing the stadiums, doing everything. People fainting, people crying. Signing multimillion dollars deals.”
Peter said despite their fame and affluence; they remained humble.
He said, “We were never the type of artist that looked down on anybody. If you remember, there was a video that went viral where it was P-Square concert and Wizkid was opening for us.
“So, they [newsmen] kept on interviewing only P-Square, and we were like, okay, guys, hold on. What about him? They said… I said no, this guy is going to take over tomorrow.”

Miracle Ikechukwu Igbokwe, a Big Brother Naija, BBNaija reality show winner, who is popularly known as Miracle, has achieved a new feat.
He has finally passed his flight instructor examination in the United States of America, USA.
Celebrating his new accomplishment, the BBNaija Season 3 winner shared the news in a post on his Instagram page.
Sharing the screenshot of his Flight Instructor Instrument Airplane examination results on Monday, Miracle said he can now play Grand Theft Auto.
He wrote: “I can now go and play GTA in peace.”
The pilot had gone offline a few months after emerging as the winner of the show.
His last post was made in December 2019.
Prior to the BBNaija show, Miracle was in aviation school and returned to complete his training immediately after clinching the grand prize.
The hair vendor who was robbed earlier yesterday has expressed her gratitude to Nigerian Afropop star, Adekunle Kosoko for reaching out to her and sending her money.
In the video that went viral, the hair vendor displayed the stark emptiness of her store after it was robbed the previous night.
In her words:
“Guys everything, see they cleared everything. But make una relax I’m going to sort out everybody. Don’t fear. It’s me bah. I will sort you guys out”
In a new update and a video shared online, the hair vendor including her family was seen kneeling down and thanking the artist, Adekunle Gold for helping her.
Although the amount of money given to the hair vendor was unspecified, it could be seen from the reactions of the hair vendor that she was grateful for the kind gesture of Adekunle Gold.
Nigerian singer, Don Jazzy, has revealed how a massage video he posted on his Instagram page got him at loggerheads with some ladies.
Speaking during the recent episode of Doyin’s Corner podcast, Don Jazzy narrated how a 2022 viral video of him massaging a lady’s backside got him in trouble with his fans, especially his female admirers.
In his words:
“You’re a nosy interviewer. A lot of people didn’t like the massage video that I did. There was a massage video that I did, I was promoting my music. Ehn, some people did not like that I was massaging bum bum.
“I feel like a lot of people were not happy about that. I have different reasons why I feel like some people were not happy about it. One was that it was very shocking considering that it was out of character.
“Normally, I don’t normally do that. Number two, obviously I have been in the game for a long time. So to an extent, I do have people that admire me, like women. So jealousy wan kill some of them so they just started getting angry.
“Jealousy can lead you to be more angry na. Jealousy can make you to be more angry.”
When asked if he felt he lost a bit of admirers that period, he reacted:
“Them dey toast me like that? [laughs]. Well, yes. There were some people that were angry. Ah! E pained them well well. Ah! “Oh my god. I’m crushed. My crush has crushed me.” Some people unfollowed me, but they followed me back. Things like that.”
American actor, Mark Sinclair, professionally known as Vin Diesel, has disclosed his favourite song.
The American thespian disclosed in a recent interview that ‘Calm Down’ by Nigerian afrobeats sensation Rema is his favourite song at the moment.
Vin Diesel said his 8-year-old daughter influenced him into liking the song.
The Fast & Furious star said, “I have to say this, my daughter, Pauline, who is 8 years old, runs around the house going ‘Calm down, calm down, calm down!’
Last week, the remix of Rema’s ‘Calm Down’ featuring American superstar, Selena Gomez peaked at Number 6 on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart, becoming the highest-peaking Nigerian song in the history of the chary.
‘Calm Down’ has also gone Platinum in the US.
