Byron Messia, the Kittitian dancehall artist, has expressed delight in collaborating with the Grammy-winning Nigerian singer, Burna Boy, on the remix of his song ‘Talibans.’

Speaking on the creation process of the song in the latest episode of the Bootleg Kev podcast, Messia praised Burna Boy’s “insane” talent.

He stated that Burna Boy doesn’t write in the studio, adding that he did his verse off freestyling.

He said, “Burna Boy did his verse on the song, ‘Talibans II’ in my presence. The session was fun and exciting. Burna Boy murdered that remix. The way he came up with that verse, mehn, this man is talented, gifted like out of the world, crazy, insane like insanely talented.

ASUU Denies Knowledge Of Plan To Pay Members’ Withheld Salary

The Academic Staff Union of Universities’ leadership has stated that it is unaware of any directive from President Bola Tinubu regarding the payment of four out of eight months of withheld salary arrears for its members.

The National Vice President of ASUU, Prof. Christopher Piwuna, stated this in an interview with journalists on the sidelines of the presentation of scholarships to university undergraduate students in Bauchi Zone, which was held at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa, Yelwa Campus, Bauchi, on Saturday.

The PUNCH reported on October 20, 2023, that Tinubu had approved the partial waiver of the “No Work, No Pay” order instituted against striking members of the ASUU following their eight-month strike, which began on February 14, 2022, and was terminated on October 17, 2022.

The President’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, revealed in a statement that the waiver “will allow for the previously striking members of ASUU to receive four months of salary accruals out of the eight months of salary that were withheld during the eight-month industrial action undertaken by the union.”

The statement was titled ‘President Tinubu approves partial waiver of the no work, no pay order on ASUU members; orders release of four months of withheld salary.’

However, Tinubu directed the grant of the waiver with the mandatory requirement that the  Ministry of Education and the  Ministry of Labour and Employment must secure a Document of Understanding establishing that the waiver granted by the President will be the last one to be granted to ASUU and all other education sector unions.

Ngelale said the President sought to “mitigate the difficulties being felt during the implementation of key economic reforms in the country, as well as his recognition of the faithful implementation of terms that were agreed upon during the deliberations between ASUU and the Federal Government of Nigeria.”

But Piwuna, when asked to comment on the said approval of the four-month salary arrears, said that ASUU is not aware of such.

  1. “We are not aware that the government has awarded money to anybody. We are not aware. As a union, we are not aware of that,” he declared.

I Didn’t Break Mohbad’s Neck – Late Singer’s Cousin Breaks Silence

Nigerian man, Darosha Losobeh, who is the cousin and personal assistant to the late Nigerian artiste, Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, has spoken about the late singer.

Darosha Losobeh broke his silence on the viral video of the singer’s coffin allegedly showing he had a broken neck.

Recall that the ex-Marlian record signee died at the age of 27 on September 12, and his death has stirred controversy with many Nigerians calling for justice for his sudden demise, leading to the arrest of his former boss, Azeez Fashola, aka Naira Marley and Samson Balogun aka Sam Larry.

The duo who were allegedly arrested for bullying the late singer have been released.

However, Mohbad’s friend, Primeboy, and the nurse who allegedly injected the late singer are still in police custody because they were tagged prime suspects in the case.

Reacting to the allegations of a broken neck from netizens on his Instagram story on Saturday, Darosha declared that he was not the one who broke the late artiste’s neck while begging those peddling the information to desist from it because it was affecting his mental health.

He wrote, “I’m so down to the extent that I had to write this up to clear this whole damn story about me going online that I bend my love’s neck; this is the craziest and saddest thing that ever happened to me, my whole life. That I broke my brother’s neck, seriously, this hurt me so much.

“What happened about the neck was that when we got to Ikorodu, we were told there was no space to keep his body at the mortuary, and we didn’t want him buried that night, so a worker there advised the family to pay for an ambulance and a coffin where we can keep him till morning and the same ambulance would drive him down to the place of burial.

“The whole family agreed to the idea because the ambulance that took us to Ikorodu was complaining that they had to leave the same night back to the island. It was only his mum that was not present there that midnight.”

Continuing, the late singer’s cousin stressed that the only issue that brought him into the picture was that he paid for the arrangement of the coffin and ambulance, maintaining that he never knew that the coffin was too small to contain his (Mohbad) whole body.

“The whole family saw his body in the ambulance before leaving for the burial ground in the morning, and no one complained about his head or anything. I didn’t go close to the ambulance because I was in shock, so I didn’t know of his neck until I saw it online, and that saddened me.

“The N1million I sent to his dad is not for him to spend because it was instructed that we should use the money in doing the burial arrangement, but unfortunately, the place we buried him is not nice to me and not secured, so I told his father to use the money to erect a fence for his safety. The whole team and family can testify to this because I have every proof, and I sent his brother the rest of the money when we arrived home.

“I was the first person that went to Panti to write a statement and called for questioning. You can go to Panti station to ask more about me, not coming online to say what you don’t know; well, I know it’s all for content, but God in heaven will judge you, tarnishing my image even with all that I am going through.

“About the salt, when my father died, a salt was placed on his chest till we arrived and I was told it was local embalming to keep him fresh till the whole family arrived, and I did the same thing because a lot of people were still coming to see him before leaving to Ikorodu that night.

“Lastly, about his properties and music catalogues, Mohbad has a lawyer that controls all of these things, and he has a contract with ONErpm, so all of these things are controlled by them, and his car is parked in front of his house at Orchid.

“I can’t drive his car because I have mine. If we really want justice, let the government work, and let’s wait for autopsy.  Stop bashing his loved ones. Abi una wants us to go depressed too #justiceformohbad,” he added.

Pedro Obi From Delta University Emerges NANS President, Defeats Seyi Tinubu’s Preferred Candidate

Comrade Pedro Obi from the Delta State University has been elected by the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) as its new President, a report by SaharaReporters has shown.

Obi, a Phd student of Guidance and Counseling studies got 212 votes to defeat his closest rival, Lucky Emonefe who scored 83 votes.

Emonefe is the preferred choice of President Bola Tinubu’s son, Seyi.

The election was held at the old parade ground, Abuja.

SaharaReporters earlier reported that the outgoing president, Usman Barambu suspended the former electoral committee, saying it was compromised, an action which paved way for another set of executives to conduct the election.

The students body had zoned the position of president of NANS to Zone B (South-south).

Confirming the incident, Levi Okuru, cordinator of Zone B said, “Congratulations Comr. Pedro Chibuzo Obi on your Victory at the poll as President of NANS. We believe you have the voice for Nigerian Students. Viva Aluta.”

SaharaReporters had reported how the Old Parade Ground, venue of the national convention of the association was on Friday, December 1, characterised by heavy shootings.

The shootings, which started on Thursday, continued on Friday at the venue of the convention, which is a few distance away from the Defense Headquarters, Abuja.

It was learnt that some students sustained wounds from the gunshots and machetes after thugs loyal to a candidate said to be the preferred choice of President Bola Tinubu’s son, Seyi, began attacking opposition delegates.

On Friday, SaharaReporters reported how Seyi allegedly released millions of naira for security operatives and mobilisation of cultists to compromise the national convention and enthrone his preferred candidate.

According to some students leaders, the plot was to ensure that Nigerian students would not rise and lead a revolution against the unpopular government of his father.

According to a source, the payment of the millions in mobilisation followed the pledge by members of the Convention Planning Committee of NANS to deliver his preferred candidates at the convention.

The source had said: “We have it on good authority that Seyi Tinubu has released millions to naira to security operatives in order to compromise the National Convention of NANS and ensure that their preferred candidates emerge.”

“This is coming after the members of the Convention Planning Committee of the association pledged to deliver the preferred candidates of Seyi Tinubu in a video call with Seyi Tinubu two days ago,” another source disclosed.

SaharaReporters had earlier reported how students and stakeholders kicked against the candidature of one Lucky Emonefe, a 48-year-old citizen, as president of the association.

My Poor Background Propels My Quest For Success – Sabinus Says

Emmanuel Chukwuemeka, the popular skit comedian and rising artiste in the Nigerian entertainment space, who is well known as Sabinus (The Investor), has explained that he comes from a very poor family and that is what drives his quest for success.

The Ikwerre speaking comedian from Rivers State also explained in this interview that drug is the major factor affecting and derailing the youths today, pointing out that he neither uses drugs nor alcohol. Excerpts

You are in Jos for your colleague’s show, who is also a skit comedian, Funny Gee. How do you feel being in Jos – the ‘Home of Peace and Tourism’?

This is my first time of being in Jos, the Plateau State capital. Since I was born, I have only been hearing the name Jos but I have never been here. I am happy with what I have seen so far. The city is really peaceful and quiet.

Jos is known to be the home of entertainment. What is your take on that?

First of all, Jos has produced so many talents; that is something that cannot be hidden. The likes of Ice Prince, M.I, 2 Face Idibia and so many others came from this axis of Nigeria (Jos). That is why I have great respect for the place. Even at the Funny Gee’s show titled ‘Hit the Ground Running’, I said that a land like Jos which produced such talents is a blessed land.

Mohbad’s Wife Demanded DNA Test In US, Two Other Places — Actress, Iyabo Ojo Says

Iyabo Ojo, the popular Nollywood actress, has made a revelation about Omowunmi Aloba, wife of late singer Ilerioluwa Oladimeji, aka Mohbad.

She said Omowunmi is ready for a DNA test to be conducted on her son.

According to Ojo, she wants the test conducted in 3 different places.

Recall that since the death of Mohbad, his father, Aloba had been demanding a DNA test to be conducted to ascertain the paternity of Omowunmi’s child, Liam Light.

Weighing in, Ojo claimed Wunmi, through her lawyer, demanded that the DNA be conducted at three hospitals.

According to her, Omowunmi asked her husband’s family to sponsor the DNA tests, which included a trip to the United States.

Iyabo claimed the family has, however, agreed to the said terms.

She spoke in a recent interview with media personality DaddyFreeze.

“But you know she has her lawyers. Their family matter is something I do not want to get involved with. I just decided to wade in and tell Wunmi, ‘What about the DNA thing?’ I had to do that with a lot of maturity.

“You have to understand that it is not easy. She is a mother. She is an adult. Someone cannot just come to me and say, ‘Iyabo, get a DNA test done for your child’. It kinda sounds funny.

“They also requested that Mohbad’s father needs to get the test done first. He needs to get a court order.

“He also needs to make sure that the test is done in three places, which America is part of. And they have to fund the whole bill. They have also responded that they are ready to do all that,” she said.

DailyTrust reports that singer Bella Shmurda and actress Tonto Dikeh had called on the Police to release Mohbad’s body for a “befitting burial”, saying his autopsy result was taking time.

Budget Presentation: NASS Rendition Of Tinubu Allegiance Song Irks Nigerians

During the presentation of the 2024 budget by President Bola Tinubu before the joint session of the National Assembly on Wednesday, November 29, Nigerians observed with astonishment as the lawmakers collectively performed an allegiance song to the President.

Their action is generating diverse reactions, with many lamenting that it was only aimed at impressing and massaging the ego of President Tinubu, a development that has been described as the height of sycophancy on the part of the lawmakers

Tinubu met with the joint session of the Senate and House of Representatives, in company with his vice president, Kashim Shettima; Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume; Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila; and other top government officials, to present the 2024 budget.

But, Nigerians were taken aback when the lawmakers, rather than concentrate on the important business of the day, turned the whole exercise to what some people have referred to as comic relief of a sort.

Soon after the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, finished presenting his speech, and said: “Distinguished colleagues, at this point, let us welcome the president; a man with track records and an alumnus of the National Assembly, to present his budget estimate,” members of the Red and Green legislative chambers relapsed into a singing mode.

They all stood up, sang and chorused: “On your mandate we shall stand; on your mandate we shall stand; on your mandate Bola, on your mandate Bola, on your mandate, we shall stand,” to the amazement and consternation of many, but also to the admiration of Mr. President and his supporters.

The president’s gladness over the development was immediately made known when he thanked Akpabio for his outstanding speech and admitted that he felt at home receiving the applause and praises.

Prior to the orchestra, the Senate President had, in a manner many have also described as an attempt to trivialise the serious business of the day, made reference to the fact that in 24 years of democracy, Nigeria was able to achieve what the United States of America, with its 247 years of democracy achieved in 185 years.

Expounding the puzzle, he noted that it was in the 185th year of democratic practice in America that the country was able to produce two former senators as president and vice president, in the persons of John F Kennedy and Lyndon Johnson, a feat Nigeria achieved in 24 years of its democratic experience by producing two former senators, Tinubu and Shettima as president and vice president, respectively.

Naira Falls By 16%, Closes Week At N927/$

On the official Investor and Exporter forex window, the Nigerian currency, the naira closed the week at N927.19/$.

This was a 16.64 per cent decline from the N794.89/$ it closed the week that ended November 24, 2023, according to data from the FMDQ Securities Exchange. Also, the turnover of dollars traded in the market improved from $75.82m to $110.14m in the period under review.

On Friday, the naira began trading at N815.00/$ for the day before hitting a high of N1160/$ and a low N701/$ within the day. It eventually closed trading at N927.19/$.

Last week Friday, the naira traded at a high of N1136/$ and a low of N700.00/$. The naira has continued to fall despite the Central Bank of Nigeria’s attempt to clear a backlog of foreign exchange forward contracts.

Recently, the apex bank’s governor, Olayemi Cardoso, stated that fiscal deficits and public debt increases are adding pressure to the external reserves and contributing to exchange rate instability.

While commenting at the recent Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria 58th Annual Bankers’ Dinner and Grand Finale of the Institute’s 60th Anniversary, the governor said, “We have already witnessed improvements in FX market liquidity in recent weeks, as the market responded positively to tranche payments which have been made to 31 banks to clear the backlog of FX forward obligations.

“We have been subjecting these payments to detailed verification to ensure only valid transactions are honored.  In a properly functioning market, it is reasonable to expect significant FX liquidity, with daily trade potentially exceeding $1.0bn. We envision that, with discipline and focused commitment, foreign exchange reserves can be rebuilt to comparable levels with similar economies.”

He added that one of the bank’s monetary policies aims is to achieve price stability and the stabilization of the exchange rate of the naira. Cardoso highlighted that the proper functioning of domestic and foreign currency markets, clear, transparent, and harmonised rules governing market operations are essential.

He declared, “New foreign exchange guidelines and legislation will be developed, and extensive consultations will be conducted with banks and FX market operators before implementing any new requirements.”

However, the Economic Intelligence Unit, the research and analysis division of the Economist Group, does not believe the CBN has the required firepower to clear the backlog of foreign exchange orders.

In a recent report, it said, “In Nigeria, an unsupportive monetary policy implies that the naira will remain under pressure, while the central bank lacks the firepower to adequately supply the market or clear a backlog of foreign exchange orders, which will keep foreign investors unnerved. High inflation and a continued spread with the parallel market will leave the exchange rate regime unstable and result in periodic devaluations.”
