The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has stated that it lacks evidence to substantiate its allegations of fraud, bribery, and conspiracy against the former Attorney-General of the Federation, Mohammed Bello Adoke.
In its response to the no-case submission filed by Adoke, who was listed as the first defendant in the charges all related to the OPL 245 transaction of 2011, the EFCC informed the FCT high court that it would not oppose the application.
The anti-graft agency also stated that it would not oppose the no-case applications by the other defendants, Aliyu Abubakar, Rasky Gbinigie (Malabu Oil & Gas Ltd company secretary), Malabu Oil & Gas Ltd, Nigeria Agip Exploration Ltd, Shell Ultra Deep Nigeria Ltd, and Shell Nigeria Exploration Production Company Ltd (SNEPCo), over some of the charges.
The EFCC, however, said that Gbinigie has a case to answer over the alleged forgery of company documents to remove the name of Mohammed Abacha as a director of Malabu Oil & Gas.
Recall that the EFCC had charged Adoke before the FCT high court, Abuja, alleging that he collected a gratification of N300 million from Abubakar over the OPL 245 resolution.
Adoke was amongst others accused of conspiring with other defendants to “commit the offence of public servant disobeying direction of law with intent to cause injury or to save a person from punishment or property from forfeiture”.
However, Adoke denied all allegations, maintaining that the N300 million being classified as bribery by the EFCC was a mortgage he took from Unity Bank Plc in 2012.
He said it was transferred by the bank directly to the account of Abubakar, a property developer, and was refunded by Abubakar in 2013 when Adoke could not come up with his equity contribution.
World-famous rapper, Nicki Minaj has disclosed the last conversation she had with her father before he tragically lost his life in a hit-and-run incident.
The 41-year-old Barbie World singer, who recently dropped her first album in five years, Pink Friday, last month, sat down for a conversation with Apple Music’s Ebro Darden.
The DJ asked her if she was speaking to her son in the first song of the album, Are You Gone Already.
Nicki said that the song was about her father, not her son, explaining: ‘So right after I had the baby, and it was during corona, and nobody knew what was going on.
‘But that day, as I’m rocking him, the phone rings, and I see it’s my father. I normally would not have picked up, because I don’t like to be on the phone with the baby there. I would’ve called him back. Something said, “Pick up the phone.”‘
She continued: ‘I picked up, he was very happy, and he was like, “Baby, I could come on Monday?” because he had been waiting to be able to come to Cali to help me. I kept on saying, “Come on out.”‘
‘He wasn’t really happy, but I knew that, when he came [to] be with us, we were going to be happy,’ the Anaconda rapper said.
‘He is this amazing, great person, who livens up the whole house. I was like, “Yes, we were going to get help.”‘
And then later that night, her mother Carol Manaj called to tell her that her father had been hit by a car in a hit-and-run.
He later succumbed to his injuries.
She said, ‘It was my mother, telling me that my father was in an accident and that she didn’t know what was going to happen, and she would call me back.
‘And then, everything started spinning,’ Minaj added.
The singer and rapper added that she ‘couldn’t believe’ how quickly everything happened, especially because ‘he was the happiest that I had heard him in a long time,’ when they spoke hours earlier about him coming out to LA to meet his grandson and help out.
Nicki emotionally revealed that since her father never got to meet his grandson, it was important to her to start Pink Friday 2 ‘speaking to [her] father.’
‘So I’m telling my father, ‘You never got to meet Papa,’ she said, explaining that the song details the time from her mom calling her to tell her about the accident to his death.
Minaj raps: ‘You never got to meet Papa / He sweet proper, he keep Mama on my toes.’
Amad Diallo, the Manchester United winger, has said “no-one plays like Lionel Messi”.
Diallo was reacting to comparisons with the Inter Miami superstar.
The 21-year-old’s technical ability has won plenty of admirers, with the fleet-footed youngster able to leave teammates bamboozled in training.
But Amad is eager to avoid being likened to one of the greatest players of all time.
He told United’s official website: “I know they said this [that I was like Lionel Messi in training] but no one plays like Messi.
“I am proud he [Gomez] says I play like Messi but I say no one plays like Messi! In training, I was like the same here, with a little bit of dribbling and scoring, so they say my football is more like Messi but, today, I say no one can play like Messi.”
