I Was ‘Copying’ Wyclef Jean – Singer, 9ice Reveals

Alexander Akande, the veteran Nigerian singer, who is popularly known as 9ice, has said he was sounding like Haitian rapper, Wyclef Jean, in the early days of his career.

The ‘Photocopy’ crooner said he wasn’t the only Nigerian artist copying Wyclef’s sound back then but he was better than the rest.

a recent interview with SPS, 9ice explained that he stopped copying Wyclef Jean after he discovered his own sound.

He emphasised that his brand of music is a fusion of his major inspirations like Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, Bob Marley, Ayinde Barrister, Kwan1 and Pasuma.

“My inspiration was Wyclef [Jean]. If anybody listened to me at the beginning, there was a time I was sounding like Wyclef 100 per cent. And there were other people that were sounding like him but they felt that I sounded better than them when it comes to sounding like Wyclef,”
he said.

“And from sounding like Wyclef, I got to my own original sound. Bob Marley, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, Ayinde Barrister, Kwan1, Pasuma and Obesere are the people that I listened to while growing up and they formed my blend in music.”

Sophia Momodu Shares Her Mom Chronicle With Gen Alpha Kids

Nigerian businesswoman, Sophia Momodu who shares a daughter with Afrobeats star, Davido, has taken to the X platform to share a glimpse into her life as a mom navigating the world of Gen Alpha slang.

In her latest post, Sophia humorously reflected on the unique language of her nine-year-old daughter and her friends.

“Yo forget Gen Z, have y’all heard Gen Alpha’s talking?” she wrote, playfully admitting that the new slang is leaving her both amused and bewildered. Sophia shared an anecdote about a recent shopping trip with her daughter and her friends, where she overheard them giggling and using terms that were completely foreign to her.

“Ran into a friend of mine while I was out shopping with my madam & her friends & while he was talking to me I saw my girls giggling on the side tell me why they said ‘he looks MAX but why was he MEWING so much?
’” Sophia recounted, adding that she had to “sit down & allow them lecture me” on the latest lingo.

In a playful twist, Sophia learned that, according to her Gen Alpha crew, she’s had “the RIZZ” (which apparently means she’s always been that girl) and that she’s “Skibidi” (a term they use to describe someone who’s pretty awesome).

However, she quickly realized that trying to keep up with the slang is no easy feat, joking that “if you don’t know Gen Alpha slags, sorry to break it to you sweetie.. you’re not Skibidi.”
