President Bola Tinubu has returned to the Presidential Villa in Aso Rock after the Christmas and New Year celebrations in Lagos State.

Recall that Tinubu had on December 21st departed Abuja for Lagos to celebrate the yelutide break.

This was the first Christmas Tinubu would be celebrating since he was sworn in as the President of Nigeria on May 29, 2023.

The Nigerian leader had earlier served as the Governor of Lagos State for eight years between 1999 and 2007.

Meanwhile, Tinubu, in his 2024 New Year’s address, extended an appeal to his former presidential election rivals, including Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP), urging them to join forces for the nation’s welfare.

President Tinubu emphasized the need to transcend political divisions, stating that the election period is over.

He stressed the importance of uniting under the common goal of advancing Nigeria, setting aside past differences to focus on the country’s future.

Tinubu said, “In this new year, let us resolve that as joint heirs to the Nigerian Commonwealth, we will work for the peace, progress, and stability of our country. I extend this call to my political opponents in the last election. The election is over. It’s time for all of us to work together for the sake of our country.”

The President also disclosed that he is not oblivious to the frustration of Nigerians due to the high cost of living, and rising inflation, among other issues, adding that his administration is doing everything possible to deliver on its ‘Renewed Hope’ mandate.

May Edochie, the ex-wife of Nollywood actor, Yul Edochie has taken to Instagram to reflect on 2023, describing it as the most catastrophic with many adversities.

Recall that 16-year-old Kambilichukwu, the first son of May and Yul, died last year after he slumped while playing football in school.

However, in a post on Instagram, Yul expressed appreciation for God’s blessings in 2023, stressing it has been his best year so far.

But in a post via her social media page on January 1, 2024, May lamented how 2023 stole her flesh and blood, leaving her in the most devastating, miserable, and confused state.

In the post, accompanied by a worship song, May said the year dealt with her in the most catastrophic ways, and she nearly gave up.

She further thanked those who stood and supported her during the challenging time.

She said, “Dear 2023, you were pregnant on the very first day of Jan unknown to anyone what you would deliver. You dealt with me in the most catastrophic ways…. Too many adversities/misfortunes, and the worst of it, you stole my own flesh and blood, leaving me in the most devastating, miserable, and confused state that I could never have imagined.

“I lost all hope and nearly gave up, I had too many questions eating me all up but I kept hearing that voice echoing, ‘Who am I to question God?’

I struggled so hard and stood on God’s words commanding us to give Him praise in every situation despite how difficult it is. Truly, I appreciate all the good people you made me cross paths with (my family, friends, strangers turned friends and my online family).

“I cannot begin to list names because it is endless but I want y’all to know that I will forever remain thankful for the incredible level of love and support showered upon me and my family in our most difficult times.

“I’m grateful to God Almighty for being God in my life, in other words, I’m so glad that man is not God.

“2023, it is with all that is within me, I say goodbye to you forever as I embrace the new year 2024 singing my song with a life of thanksgiving, a life of forgiveness, and a life of commitment to God.

“I pray that God in His infinite mercy and goodness will bless us all and shield us under His constant love.🙏 Afflictions shall never rise in our homes in Jesus’ name🙏, I wish you all a happy and prosperous new year!”

Number of Visitors to Daura Reduced – Buhari Reveals Why He Was Happy When Tinubu Increased Fuel Price

Former President Muhammadu Buhari has opened up on why he was happy when incumbent President Bola Tinubu increases the petrol pump price.
Recall that fuel price increased on May 29, 2023 after Tinubu announced removal of fuel subsidy.
According to Buhari, the decision reduced the number of visitors he receives in his native Daura town in Katsina State.
Buhari made the revelation on Sunday as the special guest of honour at the maiden edition of the annual Katsina Dialogue organised by the Katsina Consultative Forum, held at the Presidential Banquet Hall of the Katsina Government House in Katsina.
Speaking in Hausa language, Buhari said he returned to Daura and a lot of people kept visiting him but when Tinubu increased the price of fuel, he rejoiced because the visits reduced.
Speaking about drug abuse, Buhari added;
“A nation’s greatness is measured by how it safeguards its people. Our youths represent our valued asset and protecting their wellbeing is crucial for our nation’s future. We can’t afford to watch as drug abuse dismantle their potential and the country’s future. I urge all of us to unite and act decisively against drug abuse in the state,” he said.

Stop Groping In The Dark In 2024 – Atiku Warns Tinubu

Former vice president Atiku Abubakar has sent a message to President Bola Tinubu as he celebrates the new year.
He warned the Tinubu-led administration to show a clear direction of its policy projections and desist from the subsisting behaviour of groping in the dark in 2024.
He lamented the current intensity of the trying times many families and businesses are going through, adding that a completely different pathway could have been taken had the government been smarter with their policy prescriptions.
Atiku, in his 2024 New Year Message, said time and season was created to take stock of realities and effect necessary amends.
While he expressed gratitude to God and welcomed Nigerians to the new year, Atiku, admitting that the past year was challenging, said lessons learnt are what should prepare Nigerians for the future.
He said, “The rising cost of food items, goods and services, the malfunction in our national economy and the degenerating state of our national and community security are all existential challenges that we have to face squarely in the New Year.

“While many companies have closed their operations in Nigeria and moved their enterprise elsewhere with clearer policies and visions, the situation of life for Nigerians keeps getting direr.

“To walk back from these throes of adversities will require a well-thought vision of National Planning that will deliberately make the common people of Nigeria the centrepiece of our development.

“The Year 2024 is still new on its canvas; and so, there is ample time for the current government to champion a pathway to addressing the acute hardship that Nigerians are going through.

“The government must show a clear direction of its policy projections and desist from the subsisting behaviour of groping in the dark.

“While I congratulate all Nigerians for witnessing this New Year, I also wish to call on everyone to double our efforts to put our respective families and businesses in good shape,” he said.

Ondo Will Immortalise Akeredolu – Aiyedatiwa Vows

Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State has made a promise to the people of the state.
He vowed to immortalize his late boss, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, who died a few days ago.
Aiyedatiwa, who said a befitting state burial would be given to the former governor, stated that all the projects initiated by Akeredolu that were yet to be completed will be finished.
The governor, who stated this in his New Year broadcast to the people of the state, maintained that as the state gears towards governorship polls, the state’s political space would be dominated by ideas and attacks.
Aiyedatiwa warned politicians against acts capable of causing unrest in the state ahead of the party primaries and governorship polls.
According to him, no form of violence would be tolerated, and he appealed to the political actors to play by the rules of the game.
“As we are all aware, this is also the year for our governorship election. Expectedly, political activities will gain prominence as we march towards the election.

“However, let me implore all political parties, aspirants, and their followers to eschew violent conduct that can threaten the peace and tranquillity of our state and ensure that they strictly follow the guidelines issued by the electoral umpire.”

2024: LP‘ll Adjust to New Role As Nigeria’s Main Opposition Party — Obi

Peter Obi, the 2023 Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate has said his party is adjusting to its role as the main opposition party.
According to NAN, Obi, said a new Nigeria is possible despite the numerous yet-to-be-fulfilled aspirations of citizens.
Obi, in his New Year Message to Nigerians on Monday, said that “As Nigeria is the only country we have, deeply endowed but lacking good leadership over the years, we will continue to seek a new Nigeria that we know is possible.
According to him, the party will continue to adjust to new role as Nigeria’s main opposition party.
Expressing his heartfelt and warmest greetings to all Nigerians, Obi prayed God to bless them richly and grant them their good hearts’ desires in the new year and beyond.
Obi said: “The events of past year are now part of our national history. As we trudge on, we remain mindful of the State of our Nation, and that our best hopes and aspirations remain largely unfulfilled.

“Peace and security continue to elude us with the rising level of bloodletting deeply troubling and sometimes beyond a war situation.

“A situation where hundreds of Nigerians are violently killed in December alone is deeply sad and unacceptable.

“While we pray for the repose of the souls departed, we demand that the Federal Government must do whatever is required to bring the perpetrators to justice and permanently stop a reoccurrence in any part of Nigeria.”
He noted that the nation’s economy needed a turnaround considering the rising unemployment, inflation, poverty, inequality and other key socio-economic variables.
“Nigerians are now very aware and convinced that good governance, inclusive development, and accountable leadership expected in a functional democracy, continue to elude us.

“But we must be consistent and resolute in our demand for rule of law, regulatory quality and government effectiveness for transformative solutions to litany of our social problems.

“If there is one fundamental threat to our democracy, it is the undermining and weakening of our national institutions and the capture of state affairs and resources by few individuals and private interests.

“This must stop for Nigeria to move forward and function as an inclusive and sustainable society and nation,” Obi, a former two-term Anambra governor, said.
According to him, in a democratic and secular country like ours, there must be full respect for the separation of powers between the three independent arms of government, as well as between the federating units.
He said  the National Assembly should devote time and commit itself to diligent performance of their functions like the 2024 budget that required their prudent examination and subsequent patriotic oriented approval or rejection.
Obi said  the nation must work assiduously to avoid drifting to a one-party state, or a situation, where the Federal Government intervened unduly in the internal affairs of the states, particularly in circumstances where national security is not threatened.
He added: “We in Labour Party have undertaken in the national interest and in our undying commitment to a New Nigeria that is possible, to remain firmly in opposition and as such, must remain focused going forward.

“Our collective role in nation building remains fundamental and obligatory,” Obi said.
He used the opportunity to thank all Nigerians who supported his campaign during the 2023 elections and voted for his party because of their belief in the quest for a New Nigeria.
Obi said the outcome of the 2023 presidential elections was contested and remained so, on record,” but the Courts of law have spoken; so be it”.
He said: “I wish to thank members of the Labour Party, the Obidient Family, friends and well-wishers of Nigeria for their loyalty, resilience, tenacity and commitment to true democracy.

“We will continue ongoing discussions and efforts for the Labour Party to adjust to our new role as Nigeria’s main opposition party.

“We will continue to constructively engage all Nigerians and our friends, who have now realised the vast implications of the road not taken; and the folly of national interest decisions predicated on sentiments and primordial interests.”

Obi said that Nigeria remained a God-given country and that the business of Nigeria was far too important to be left to those involved in transactional politics.

“I am involved in the struggle for a New Nigeria that is possible and works for all and will remain passionately committed to the crusade.

“I, therefore,  implore you all who strive for a New Nigeria to remain fully engaged, committed and resilient as it is and will be possible.”

Nnamdi Kanu Suffering Internal Bleeding, His Death Capable Of Sinking Nigeria – IPOB

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has issued a warning to the Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led government to release its leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.
According to IPOB, Kanu is battling internal bleeding resulting from alleged torture in the detention of the Department of State Services (DSS).
Recall that Nnamdi Kanu has been in DSS detention since 2021, following his arrest in Kenya and repatriation to Nigeria.
The Supreme Court, on December 15, dismissed the ruling of the Appeal Court and okayed his trial on the charges of terrorism filed against him by the Federal Government.
In a statement on Sunday, IPOB’s spokesman, Emma Powerful, said Kanu needs urgent and specialized medical emergency treatment to avert serious outcomes.
IPOB said reports reaching it “indicate that Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is having medical complications in the DSS solitary confinement. The report said that Kanu may be having internal bleeding caused by torture.

“This current medical situation may have risen from ruptured veins and internal bleeding disorders arising from the beating and torture he was subjected to by the Nigeria secret agents who kidnapped him in Kenya in 2021.

“Moreso, the drug overuse and abuse that DSS has subjected Kanu to may also be part of the problem. Our Leader requires medical emergency treatment outside the DSS facility to undergo surgery for his survival.

“Even the DSS medical director agrees that Kanu requires urgent and serious medical attention to handle his case. The Federal Government and the British government should release Kanu on medical grounds for independent medical professionals to attend to him and carry out the surgery if necessary to save the unforeseen situation.”

“The Federal Government should be careful that nothing happens to Kanu during and after his illegal detention in DSS solidarity confinement. Kanu is a precious jewel that Biafrans have given their lives to protect, and many are ready to give their lives for him. Kanu is a trigger of the gun that is capable of sinking Nigeria if mishandled,” the group added.
