Update: Lagos State Govt Breaks Silence On Why Lady’s Car Was Clamped At A Car Park

The Lagos State Parking Authority has given reasons why its officials clamped the car of a lady at the car park of a pharmacy along Allen Avenue, Ikeja on Friday, September, 8.

In the statement released, the general manager of the agency, Adebisi Adelabu, said the pharmacy where the lady parked her car, has refused to pay their annual Corporate Parking/Set Back Levy, hence the reason the woman’s car was clamped.

‘’The attention of the Lagos State Parking Authority (LASPA) has been drawn to a viral video circulated by Health Plus Pharmacy, located in Allen, Ikeja. The video is a deliberate misrepresentation of facts to whip up public sentiments against against government officials on lawful duty.

In order to set the records straight, the issues that led to clamping the tyre of the vehicle parked in front of Health Plus premises are detailed below;

• Lagos State Parking Authority is the regulatory body estabished to monitor private and commercial facilities to forestall indiscriminate parking along roads and setbacks in the State.

• In December 2022, the Authority issued demand notices for Y2023 parking levies to private and public corporate organisations, including Health Plus Pharmacy, and thereafter, circulated reminders that were duly acknowledged by defaulting organisations.

• Officers seen in the video were on a final visit to seek payment for legitimate levies due to the Lagos State Government. It is evident that the officials were non confrontational and professional in their conduct during the exercise.

• All demand notices served to the company and duly acknowledged are hereby presented to members as a display of transparency by our institution.

LASPA will not be deterred from performing its regulatory role by unpatriotic individuals who resort to misinformation and fake news in order to evade payment of taxes and levies due to the government.

For the avoidance of doubt, any individual found deliberately peddling falsehood to defame the officials of the Lagos State Government on monitoring and compliance activities will be prosecuted in accordance with the law.”

Details Of Nigerian Lady Who Died Aboard Egypt Air Flight To London Emerge

The Nigerian lady who passed away aboard an Egypt Air flight on her way to London, United Kingdom, has been identified.

The lady, identified as Remilekun Toyosi Meshioye, left Nigeria for London aboard Egypt Air MS 876 flight to Cairo on Monday through the Murtala Muhammad International Airport (MMIA), Lagos.

It was learned that Meshioye was going to London on a student visa and boarded Egypt Air on a connecting flight to London via Egypt Air MS777 the following day.

But she was said to have died aboard the flight, and her corpse was allegedly dropped off in Cairo, the Egypt Capital, by the airline.

Family Speaks

The family of the deceased issued a statement on Friday signed by Olufunmilola Olaniyi-Alabi, the elder sister of the deceased and demanded that the corpse of their daughter be released to them by the airline.

Olaniyi-Alabi said the airline didn’t inform the family, but rather they got a message from the consular office in Cairo informing them of the death of their daughter on board the flight.

She stated that the family has also demanded that they need to know what exactly happened and how to get her corpse back to Nigeria.

She said, “ My sister left Lagos for the UK on Monday at 14:00 via Egyptair line and eventually died during her transit from Lagos to Cairo, according to the little information we got.”

Olaniyi-Alabi said they called EgyptAir customer care and all other contact phone details on their website, but no response all through Wednesday, and when the phone was picked up, they quickly cut it.

“It was only once that a man picked up the call that we put through to the EgyptAir Region Office in London, and he said the London office is not aware of what happened and they don’t have information to share with us.

“So we were left with no choice but to report to the UK Police Department on Wednesday, and they later confirmed to us that our sister was not in the UK. They advised us to contact Cairo or Lagos airports. We contacted the agent who sold the ticket to her, and the agent sent us proof that she did not board the plane going to Heathrow from Cairo,” she explained.

Olaniyi-Alabi disclosed that it was at this point that they intensified their efforts as regards trying to get in touch with Egypt Air.

She said: “Myself and my husband reside in Leeds, UK and later travelled to London (Heathrow) on Wednesday night to get to London on Thursday morning, and we demanded to see the EgyptAir regional manager in their London office, who made some calls on Thursday afternoon in her office to their Cairo office.

“She later informed us that Remi fell sick in the plane, and on landing in Cairo, they rushed her to the hospital in town, where she later died. The effort to obtain more information from her was not quite successful as to how she died. She said the Nigerian Embassy has been informed, and they are the ones that should have contacted us. She later called the Nigeria consular (Saliu Agraza).

“I strongly feel that EgyptAir should have contacted us as the passenger’s next of kin against us struggling to get information which as of this time that I am writing, they are yet to provide to us.

“We spoke to the Nigerian Embassy in the person of Saliu Agraza, who responded that EgyptAir only informed them on Tuesday that Remi was dead and handed over her body to them but did not have any other information or any contact of her relatives.

“EygptAir further said that only the Nigerian Embassy in the person of Saliu, as a Nigerian Consular, will be able to write and demand what happened on the plane and at the airport to Remilekun and request for all her belongings and documents that they have in their possession, including the CCTV footage in the plane and at the airport.”

She alleged that Egypt Air is hiding the truth of what happened to her sister on the plane and on landing at the airport on Monday night and does not want to take responsibility for what happened to her.

“As a family of Remilekun, we are demanding for her body to be returned back to Nigeria by EgyptAir at their own expense, and they should return all her luggage back to Lagos where she boarded the plane on Monday 4th of September,” she added.

If A Man Cheats On Me, I Will Cheat Back – BBNaija’s Dorathy

Ex-BBNaija housemate, Dorathy Bachor, has stated that she would cheat back if her man is unfaithful in a relationship.

The reality TV star made this known during an interview on ‘Toke Moments’, a podcast hosted by media personality, Toke Makinwa.

Sharing how she acts when in a romantic relationship, Bachor said she is more of a loyalist in a romantic relationship.

She said, “I am more of a loyalist. I can be talking to multiple people, but when I am with you, I am with you. I am always open, and I always want my partner to be open with me. Tell me everything. But, if you cheat on me, I will cheat back. You are mine, I am yours; nobody is going anywhere. We are in there together. But, don’t do things to me that you wouldn’t want me to do to you.”

Speaking on her approach to communication in relationships, Dorathy admitted she has so much insecurity and would reciprocate the energy she gets from the man.

She said, “If I call you and you don’t pick my call, I also would not pick when you call me. I am actually that bad, because I have so much insecurity. I like being open. If you are not talking to me, who are you talking to? If I am going to date you or commit to you, you have to give me the same energy. It has to be full energy; you cannot give me half baked.”

Kwankwaso Moves To Change NNPP Logo, Amend Constitution

The faction of the presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP, Sen Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso has made a move to amend the party’s constitution and logo following the ongoing crisis in the party.

The decision to amend the constitution was confirmed during an exclusive interview with the National Auditor of NNPP, Ladipo Johnson.

The development is coming three days after the faction of the party under the leadership of Major Agbo expelled the presidential candidate of NNPP for alleged anti-party activities and misappropriation of party campaign funds.

Kwankwaso’s expulsion was announced in a statement released on Tuesday by the NNPP’s factional National Publicity Secretary, Abdulsalam Abdulrasaq.

Abdulrasaq affirmed that the decision to expel Kwankwaso with immediate effect was taken after he failed to appear before the disciplinary panel to defend himself over the allegations levelled against him.

The expulsion of the former Kano governor caused disaffection within the party and saw chieftains from opposition camps trading blame.

A few days after the drama, Saturday PUNCH findings revealed that there was a subtle move by the Kwankwaso camp to amend the logo and constitution allegedly to weaken the grip of the NNPP founder, Dr Boniface Aniebonam.

Although the development was confirmed by Johnson who was the chairman of the disciplinary committee that expelled some factional members of the party a few weeks ago, the national auditor, however, denied the move was a response to the emergence of a faction within the NNPP.

“No, it has nothing to do with any faction. It was something we already discussed at the NEC. Unlike them (Agbo faction), we are serious people. But we haven’t changed the logo yet. We are planning to throw it out there for our members to compete and come up with ideas,” he said.

Reacting, acting National Chairman of the faction, Major Agbo, told our correspondent that they were aware of the subtle move which they believed was directed at removing the immunity of the founder.

He said, “Obviously, the proposed amendment to the constitution and changing of logo they are talking about was deliberate. That was because they discovered suddenly that the man they are after (the founder) has immunity by the provision of that constitution. That’s why they are in a hurry to amend it.”

Alhaji Musiliu Akinsanya popularly known as MC Oluomo, has announced his return to the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW).

Speaking at an event on Thursday, Akinsanya lauded the Lagos State governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu for his support towards the union during the ‘trying periods’ while describing the transition as a new dawn in the organisation to its “original home”.

The popular transport leader was in April 2022 suspended by the NURTW in the peak of the crisis with the President, Alhaji Tajudeen Baruwa, while he was immediately appointed by the state governor as the Chairman of Parks Management Committee.

He reiterated the Union’s commitment towards supporting the THEMES agenda of the Lagos State governor and also ensuring uniting all members irrespective of affiliations.

He said, “As we transcend from Lagos State Parks and Garages to NURTW. The revamped NURTW (both at the National Level and State Level in Lagos Sate) will not rest in our oars to support the Themes agenda of His Excellency in Lagos State. As we all aware that in the Themes agenda, T represents Transportation. We are therefore using this medium to reiterate our full corporation to all the giant strides of His Excellency in the Transportation Sector in Lagos State.

“We might be transiting in mere name change, but we will not deviate from the necessary supports, cooperation and the cordial relationship that existed between us LASPG and the Lagos State Governor through the Ministry of Transportation.

“As it is being opined that “Unity is “progress” the Alhaji Musiliu Ayinde Akinsanya led Lagos NURTW is geared towards uniting all members irrespective of affiliations. “In this Tinubu’s administration, we are all into it, hands are full and I expect you all to be available to assist in all the works we have to do for this country.

“These are the people we want to reach out to and see how we can help families, this is the reason why the RHI is focusing on agriculture, education, health, economic empowerment and social investment.

“Another one that will interest you which everybody can participate in, for agricultural programme in RHI, we are planning that everyone should have a garden to grow food.

“Since President Bola Tinubu has declared a state of emergency on food security, therefore, we are encouraging people to start planting in gardens and we are only going to pick one garden as the winner.

She pleaded with the first lady to embrace the forum as her own, on all ramifications.

“It is our desire to continue to participate through capacity utilisation and to contribute meaningfully to all programmes intended to be carried out by your Excellency.

“We are here to pledge our loyalty to you and to identify with RHI. We wish to emphasise that your cool, calm and noiseless disposition in handling state matters has greatly endeared you to us in this forum.

“We are proud of you,’’ she said.
